The interrogation was completed around 1 a.m.

"He confessed!"

Zhang Ze entered the meeting room with a note in hand, threw his coat on the back of his chair, and took a swig from the water bottle on the table.

"This kid is even less easily intimidated than Zhang Haitian. When he first sat down, he insisted he was just gambling, but after Captain Meng presented Zhang Haitian's statement, his face turned completely green!"

Wu Liang leaned back in his chair, looking on with interest.

"Who did you name?"

"Diao Wei!"

Zhang Ze tried to keep his voice down, but he couldn't hide the excitement in his tone.

"Wang Ye said he had always been running errands for Diao Wei. Not only for Zhang Haitian's car, but also on the day Cao Yang went to kill Shen Xuejun, he was the one who provided backup!"

Wu Liang's brows twitched slightly.

"Did he admit that he was there to assist Cao Yang?"

"He admitted it!" Zhang Ze slammed his hand on the table. "But he insisted he didn't know what Cao Yang was up to. He only said that Diao Wei told him to wait at a designated location, pick up the person, change cars, and then send Cao Yang away."

Wu Liang did not respond immediately.

Zhang Ze thought he was still waiting for more, so he moved forward a little.

"And there's something even more crucial. Wang Ye said he'd seen Cao Yang's batch of things."

"gun?"

"I didn't see the gun," Zhang Ze shook his head. "But I did see a black bag. Cao Yang was holding it very tightly when he got into the car. I asked him about it, but Cao Yang ignored me. Later, Diao Wei scolded him for being nosy, so he didn't dare to ask again."

Wu Liang nodded slowly.

"It sounds pretty complete."

"More than complete."

Zhang Ze slammed a newly printed draft of a report onto the table.

Wu Liang glanced at it.

[The suspect, Diao Wei, male...]

Zhang Ze withheld the rest of the content, deliberately keeping Wu Liang in suspense.

"Go check online, prepare to issue an A-level arrest warrant directly!"

Wu Liang shrugged helplessly.

"Captain Zhang, I'm just concerned about the progress of the case."

Zhang Ze chuckled, "Don't worry, with Wang Ye's bite, Cao Yang's solo crime scheme has been completely dismantled."

These words lightened the atmosphere in the meeting room considerably.

Good news kept coming back.

"Wang Ye's identity verification complete."

"Shunfa Tea House seized 27 mobile phones, 13 account books, and more than 60 bank cards."

"Those involved in underground gambling have been initially categorized. Those involved in gambling have been handed over to the relevant authorities for processing, while key individuals are being screened separately."

The oppressive atmosphere that had been hanging over the task force was completely dispelled by tonight's arrest.

Old He, his face flushed, entered the room carrying the evidence box he had brought back from Shunfa Teahouse.

"Captain Meng, you've struck it rich!"

Meng Jiang was standing in front of the whiteboard looking at Wang Ye's relationship diagram when he heard this and turned around.

"What is it?"

Old He put the box on the table.

"Ledgers, IOUs, name lists, and several cell phones specifically for bookkeeping. Some of them have nicknames in the notes, and the name 'Brother Diao' appears quite a few times."

Upon hearing this, Zhang Ze walked over immediately.

"Let me see."

Old He handed him the gloves.

"Don't touch it. It's already been photographed and sealed off. The technical team will be here soon."

Zhang Ze put on gloves and opened one of the hardcover ledgers.

The handwriting inside was neat and orderly.

Date, amount, name, interest.

There were also a few pages with small slips of paper containing different license plate numbers and phone numbers.

Zhang Ze looked more and more energetic.

"Isn't this Diao Wei's external network?"

Old He laughed and said, "At least one of them. Shunfa Teahouse is a casino on the surface, but behind the scenes it's involved in lending money, money laundering, and organizing prostitution; it's involved in everything."

Unlike Zhang Ze, Meng Jiang was not excited as he scanned the account books page by page, his tone much calmer.

"We worked through the night to secure all the phone numbers and cross-reference them with Wang Ye's contact list. Anyone who appeared more than twice in the ledger was pulled out and a table was created."

Zhang Ze held one of the slips of paper.

"Captain Meng, if Wang Ye's connection is confirmed, Diao Wei won't be able to escape. Zhang Haitian, Wang Ye, and Cao Yang—the three of them form a network; with vehicles, backup, and supplies, we can at least secure the entire external support system!"

Meng Jiang nodded.

"Send out the arrest warrant first, and then check his last movements."

"It's all arranged," Qiao Wei said as he walked in. "There are no recent ticket purchase records under Diao Wei's ID card, and his bank card hasn't been touched in three years. We're investigating the fake identity he might be using and the contacts in Wang Ye's phone."

Zhang Ze sneered.

"Well hidden."

"The deeper they hide, the more afraid they are," Old He added from the side.

Everyone felt relieved after hearing that.

Zhang Ze walked over to Wu Liang and nudged him with his elbow.

"Attorney Wu, how was it? Was tonight's battle well-executed?"

Wu Liang glanced at him.

"Hmm, quite professional."

"Stop being sarcastic," Zhang Ze laughed and scolded. "If we hadn't caught Wang Ye, who would have known that so many things were buried under this little casino? Let me tell you, as long as we catch Diao Wei, that old bastard Tan Yongren will show his true colors sooner or later."

Wu Liang didn't say anything, but nodded.

Zhang Ze was in a good mood and didn't argue with him.

"Keep being stubborn. Once Diao Wei is caught, he'll start implicating you one by one. No matter how hard Tan Yongren tries to clear his name, he won't be able to get away with it."

Wu Liang smiled and didn't dampen his enthusiasm.

Zhang Ze really has something to be happy about now.

The entire task force should be happy.

From Zhang Haitian's confession to Wang Ye's arrest, and then to Diao Wei being placed on the wanted list, it took less than ten hours.

This series of advancements is so rapid that it's hard not to feel that victory is just around the corner.

Zhang Ze answered a phone call and then hurriedly walked out.

"I'm going to check Wang Ye's second statement. Attorney Wu, you should go home and rest early. At the moment, we probably don't need your help anymore."

Before long, most of the people in the conference room had left, leaving only Li Mu and Wu Liang.

"Attorney Wu, aren't you going home to rest?"

Li Mu's voice also relaxed a lot. He looked up from the computer and saw Wu Liang leaning back in his chair, looking at several photos connected by new red lines on the whiteboard.

His expression wasn't as excited as the others.

So I moved the computer to the side and teased him.

"What's wrong? Do you feel like you haven't even had a chance to shine, and the case is already almost over?"

Wu Liang shook his head, his gaze still fixed on the whiteboard.

"It's certainly a good thing that the case is closed."

Li Mu smiled.

"Your expression doesn't quite match."

After saying that, she stopped teasing him and looked back at the computer.

With Wang Ye apprehended, Zhang Haitian's testimony was no longer an isolated case.

"At least for now, it can be proven that Cao Yang did not do it alone."

Li Mu said.

"We can also give an explanation to the prosecutor's office, which will buy us more time."

Wu Liang nodded.

"Um."

Seeing his reaction, Li Mu finally frowned.

"Attorney Wu, if you have something to say, just say it. Don't keep us in suspense."

Wu Liang pursed his lips and spoke.

"Wang Ye recruited too quickly."

Li Mu was puzzled and turned to look at him.

"Someone like him simply can't handle it."

"Yes," Wu Liang said, "that alone isn't a problem."

Li Mu remained silent, waiting for him to continue.

Wu Liang raised his finger and pointed to the whiteboard.

"Zhang Haitian implicated Wang Ye, Wang Ye implicated Diao Wei, and Shunfa Teahouse happened to find account books, IOUs, and rosters, which contained a bunch of clues related to Diao Wei."

"Isn't this line too smooth?"

"You suspect the ledgers are fake?"

Li Mu didn't quite understand what Wu Liang was saying.

"Not necessarily." Wu Liang shook his head. "Fake things are actually less troublesome; the most troublesome things are often the real ones."

Li Mu was taken aback, and the relaxation on his face disappeared somewhat.

Wu Liang then raised his hand, pointed to the photo of Diao Wei on the whiteboard, and said in a deep voice:

"Everything is so real and so smooth now that everyone will feel like they've found the right path as soon as they see it."

Upon hearing Wu Liang's words, Li Mu's expression gradually became serious, and neither of them spoke again.

Outside the meeting room, the footsteps of police officers pacing back and forth could be heard incessantly, each of them moving with a sense of urgency and excitement.

Wu Liang stared at the connecting lines drawn on the whiteboard, his mind constantly reviewing tonight's events and all the recent actions.

He suddenly spoke.

"Officer Li, have you noticed something?"

"What?"

Wu Liang spoke softly and slowly.

"Currently, all the directions that can be put on paper point to Diao Wei."

"But it actually has nothing to do with Tam Wing-yan."
