I am the Enchantress!

Chapter 45: Assessment of Novice Mages

"Practicing against the wind?"

A hint of confusion flashed in Lyle's narrow eyes.

A wandering knight needs to resonate with nature, follow the natural course of events, and even regard himself as a child of nature.

I've never heard of this inverted Heavenly Gang training method before.

But upon closer examination, it does make some sense.

This is similar to how soldiers train with heavy loads; when the body gets used to extreme environments, it becomes more composed when returning to normal.

"Okay, I'll give it a try."

Lyle accepted the suggestion.

"Then I'll be going now." Wilder nodded. "I wish you a speedy mastery of level two archery."

"Well, I wish you all the best in becoming a novice mage," Lyle replied with a smile.

Wilder then left.

He guessed that Lyle probably developed a competitive spirit after learning that Cyrion had been promoted to intermediate warrior.

That's why he was in a hurry to master level two archery in order to break through and become an intermediate ranger.

It seems that as long as the path to advancement exists, the life of an adventurer is not absolutely free, unless they only want to be a salted fish.

Lyle is clearly not.

Wilder had a feeling that as long as he practiced against the wind according to the method described in the two lines of ancient Elvish language, he should be able to master the archery technique very quickly.

Ancient texts always inspire a strange sense of belief, at least in novels and movies.

If only there were ancient books recording spells...

Wilder returned to the Colt Inn, his mind wandering aimlessly.

After having a simple lunch set meal on the first floor, he set off for the Adventurers' Guild.

……

The Adventurers' Guild, second floor.

There weren't many people taking their professional level assessments today, which made the quietness here stand out even more from the first floor.

Wilder walked straight to the door at the end of the corridor and knocked.

"Please come in."

Fina's voice came from inside.

Wilder pushed open the door and went inside.

Unlike before, this time Fina didn't sit by the window, but instead sat on the side of the table, looking down as she sorted through a stack of parchment scrolls.

The man sitting in the chair by the window was around forty years old.

He was dressed in a silver-white mage's robe, which was exquisitely made, and his slender fingers were adorned with several rings of different colors.

"Good afternoon, Miss Fina," Wilder greeted her first.

"You've arrived."

Fina looked up and pointed to the side, "This is Hollen Seid, who is in charge of the novice mage assessment. You can call him Instructor Hollen."

Wilder nodded and looked at the man:

"Hello, Professor Hollen, my name is Wilder."

"He passed his apprentice certification last week," Fina added for him. "I told him you were coming back today so I could have you take the beginner mage assessment."

"Apprentice last week, and already being evaluated for lower rank this week?"

Hollen frowned. "Could it be that a genius has emerged in our Ironweave Town?"

"Uh... I'll give it a try."

Wilder scratched his head, feeling like he'd encountered an examiner with a rather bad temper.

Hollen looked him up and down.

A white shirt and brown vest in a cheap clothing store in town, a crudely made dagger at the waist, and a cheap oak staff clipped to the back.

Although he was quite handsome and had the charm of a bard in his eyes, he still couldn't hide his poverty.

Not a nobleman?

That's quite rare.

"Sit down," he waved his hand.

"Okay." Wilder sat down across from him at the table.

"Well then, let's start with an introduction," Hollen said, leaning back in his chair.

Do I really have to introduce myself?

It really was an interview.

However, having been a civil servant in his previous life, he was all too familiar with this.

"My name is Wilder, I am eighteen years old, and I come from the countryside of Ironweave Town. My family has been farming for generations."

"The spells I've mastered include Foot Oil, Grease, Burning Hand, Magic Missile, and Mirror Image."

He remained silent about the expertise offered by the system.

It's better if they don't believe in that stuff; if they do, they might end up being dissected and studied.

"Mirror Image Technique?"

Hollen interrupted him.

He ignored everything before, but Mirror Image was a level two spell, which cost at least five gold coins.

Wilde was not a nobleman, so how could he afford to buy one?

"Yes," Wilder replied, "Do you need me to demonstrate?"

He secretly rejoiced, thankfully he had prepared a level two spell in advance, it seemed the examiner valued this highly.

"No need," Hollen waved his hand, then asked, "What's your main job now?"

"Oh, I forgot to mention."

Wilder took the black iron badge out of his pocket and placed it on the table.

"I'm an adventurer, and although I'm currently only at the Iron rank, I often team up to do some difficult quests."

Whether it was my imagination or not, the look of disgust on Hollen's face faded a bit after hearing these words.

"The adventure was good."

He sighed and said with some resentment:

"These days, all those mages do is hide in their rooms meditating, thinking and thinking, but they've never even killed a single goblin!"

Wilder nodded in righteous indignation.

He wouldn't have wanted to kill them if it weren't for the gold coins.

It's all because the mage's things are so expensive...

"Okay, that's enough."

Hollen suddenly stood up and said.

Wilder was taken aback.

Is that all?

He thought he would have to go to the association to retrieve the mission records to prove his abilities, but he didn't expect the other party to believe him so easily.

He also stood up, ready to be awarded the certificate of a junior mage.

"Now, let's begin the interview for the novice mage assessment," Hollen said.

"Huh?" Wilder's expression froze. "Wasn't that an interview?"

"That was just chatting."

Hollen glanced at him. "A novice mage isn't a fraud; you can't cast spells just by talking."

"So... how do I conduct the interview?" Wilder asked.

"It's very simple."

Hollen drew a peach-colored staff from his waist.

The staff is slightly curved with natural patterns, and it looks quite old, yet it possesses the unique weight and exquisite beauty of ancient artifacts.

He raised his staff slightly, the obsidian at the top of the staff emitting a murky light.

Then, he turned and glanced casually at the fields in the distance outside the window.

next second.

A very thin beam of light burst forth from the obsidian, slowly traversing the air until it drew a circle with shimmering edges.

Suddenly, the scenery in the circle changed.

Outside the circle, it was still the setup of the testing room, but inside, it had transformed into a vast field.

Two worlds, just inside and outside the circle.

What was even more surprising was that Hollen suddenly bent down, stepped into the circle, and completely entered the field.

"This is……"

Wilder was stunned.

"Level 4 spell, [Secret Technique]."

Fina explained and stepped inside, saying, "Come on, follow me."

"oh oh."

Wilder followed behind Fina, carefully stepping across the circle of light.

One step was on the hard marble of the testing room, and the next step was on the fresh, soft soil of the suburbs.

Sunshine, green grass, birdsong.

This is not an illusion, but a real folding of space and a change of position.

At this very moment, they were on the outskirts of Ironweave Town, five thousand feet away from the Association—

That's the place Hollen was looking out the window at earlier.

Wilder swallowed hard.

"Professor Hollen, why are we here for an interview?"

"Because the interview content was—"

Hollen smiled slightly. "Fight me."
