Chapter 315 The Purpose of the Demon Blade
Upon noticing approaching figures, a group of warriors emerged from the wooden shed, while another black figure moved even faster, blocking Bai Lin's path.
With its jet-black, wide wings, priestly attire, fan in hand, and red bird-head mask, it was none other than the shikigami Ōtengu I had seen in the naval battle. However, this Ōtengu was female, and her face was obscured.
Discovered the neutral shikigami, Ōtengu Mikaze, LV8. Ōtengu are the embodiment of divinity and mystery in the Japanese mountains and fields, holding a higher status than ordinary yokai. Mikaze possesses an innate strong sense of justice and acts with unwavering integrity. Entrusted by Kamo no Tadayuki, he dedicated his life to protecting Seimei. Later, he changed his name to Oni-ichi Hōgen and rescued the legendary ancient Japanese hero Minamoto no Yoshitsune at Mount Kurama. Judging from this description, this Ōtengu was quite active in the Heian period and doesn't appear evil, completely different from the shikigami of Fujiwara no Ichiura.
"Halt!" Yu Feng said sternly. With a wave of her fan, a powerful whirlwind rushed towards Bai Lin. The wind was so strong that it stopped Bai Lin's movement.
Not to be outdone, Bai Lin unleashed a burst of chaotic power from her body with a loud "bang," and a terrifying aura countered the whirlwind of the Great Tengu, suppressing her and forcing her to retreat several meters.
Of course, Bai Lin was just showing off his skills and didn't intend to fight Da Tengu. He took out his Yin Yang Bureau token and said, "Yin Yang Bureau Grand Master Bai Lin has come to provide assistance."
Upon seeing that they were their own people, the warriors and mages who rushed up immediately breathed a sigh of relief. Some of the mages had seen Bai Lin at the Yin-Yang Shrine and knew that he was very powerful. They were overjoyed. They had been trapped in the mountains for several days, suffering from freezing cold, lack of water and food, and constant attacks from monsters. They were living in constant fear and had suffered a lot.
One of the older monks stepped forward and bowed, saying, "Bai Dayun has arrived just in time. May I ask how many men he brought?"
Bai Lin rubbed his nose and said, "Isn't one of me enough?"
Ignoring the lowly minions of the Yin-Yang Bureau, she walked straight toward the wooden house. The Great Tengu tried to stop her, but an invisible chaotic force neutralized her magic, leaving him utterly shocked. However, his gaze toward Bai Lin remained hostile.
Bai Lin shrugged. He couldn't expect everyone to like him, and after all, he was a leader of the Chaotic Faction, while the Great Tengu seemed to belong to the Order Faction, so it was only natural that he disliked him.
"Yu Feng, let him in..." Qingming's voice came from inside the wooden house. Only then did Yu Feng glare fiercely at Bai Lin and step aside. His eyes clearly said: You brat, you'll get what's coming to us! Bai Lin smiled and ignored it.
Inside the wooden cabin, Seimei appeared listless and dispirited, sitting around a small stove, flipping through an unknown scroll.
Bai Lin sat down opposite him without any hesitation. Seeing his somewhat tired appearance, she couldn't help but tease, "Seriously? A mere Yuki-onna has made Lord Kamisuke look so disheveled?"
Seimei said irritably, "Very strong, inexplicably strong. You'll see next time you go first."
Bai Lin glanced at the food simmering in the copper pot on the small stove, but had no appetite whatsoever. He chuckled and said, "How about we make a trade? You give me Momotaro's rice ball recipe, and I'll help you take down the Snow Woman!"
Seimei was taken aback, clearly unaware of who the "Momotaro" Bai Lin was referring to was. Bai Lin scratched his head, thinking that perhaps the legend of Momotaro didn't exist in this era, and that the summoning encyclopedia system had simply named him based on the legend from the original world.
He chuckled and said, "It's the glutinous rice ball I ate at Liqiao before."
Seimei was even more puzzled: "That was just rations made by the shrine maiden, and the update has been released! All the readers have gone to check it out! There's nothing special about it!"
Bai Lin was quite disappointed and could only return to the shrine to investigate further. The two were silent for a few seconds before Bai Lin asked about their trip to the Great Snow Mountain. Qingming wasn't keen on a long talk, summarizing it in a few words:
Reluctantly leaving Beijing
Go up the mountain in a grand manner
Ambushed without warning.
He was beaten up without warning.
After saying this, Seimei put down the scroll, closed his eyes to rest, and after a moment of silence, said softly, "They will come as soon as it gets dark."
Bai Lin glanced at the sky; it would be dark in at most an hour. However, he had no intention of letting Qingming rest. He took out a piece of silk paper and said, "The Demon Blade has already killed twenty-four people, but the reason is still unclear, and we don't know the connection between these people..."
Seimei squinted at the list, sighed softly, and said, "Four more... There's no need to investigate this case anymore; she'll come knocking on our door herself..."
Bai Lin was somewhat surprised. It seemed that Qingming had known the whole story all along, but he didn't seem to have taken any action.
Under Bai Lin's persistent questioning, Seimei finally said, "She saw the fabricated 'Theory of Primordial Limitlessness' somewhere and thought that by collecting the bloodlines of twenty-eight gods, she could summon the Gate of the Underworld. Perhaps she wanted to resurrect the deceased Heavenly Master... The remaining four bloodlines are the Imperial Family, the Genji, the Fujiwara clan, and Abe."
Bai Lin was very interested. Seimei wanted to use Bai Lin as a ceremonial figure in battle, so he patiently explained that the so-called bloodline of the Twenty-Eight Gods was the most ancient family in Japan, claiming that their bloodline was divinely bestowed. Therefore, they had always been a prestigious family in Japan, and their lineage had never been broken for thousands of years. The royal family was even more special. The royal family did not have surnames. The emperor could bestow surnames upon his subjects and himself. Therefore, Minamoto no Hiromasa's father was called Emperor Murakami, and his predecessors were Emperor Suzaku and Emperor Daigo. In ancient times, the emperor was always called "Ame-shi," which actually means "heaven" in Old Japanese and is a kind of title.
In Japan, there was once a book that was somewhat related to Taoist cultivation, called "The Primordial Limitless Theory," which recorded the legend of the Gate of the Underworld.
"That's a long story..." Seimei looked at the sky outside the window. The wind was very strong, and the snow was falling even harder.
This book mentions two great Japanese deities, the creator gods Izanagi and Izanami. They gave birth to the three main gods, Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susanoo. Izanami died in childbirth while giving birth to Susanoo. In order to revive his lover, Izanagi went to the Land of the Dead to find Izanami. Izanami told him that on the way back, he should hold her hand and not look back. However, at the gates of the underworld, Izanagi couldn't help but turn around. He was immediately horrified by Izanami's rotting and gruesome body. He let go of her hand and ran away, leaving Izanami in the Land of the Dead forever.
This legend records the land of the dead, the Land of the Dead, and states that one can enter and exit through the Gate of the Dead to bring back the dead gods or humans. Thus, the "Taiko Wuji Theory" proposes that as long as the bloodlines of the twenty-eight gods directly descended from Amaterasu are gathered, the Gate of the Dead can be opened.
Seimei scoffed at this claim, repeatedly stating that the "Theory of Primordial Limitlessness" was a fabricated evil book and that such a method simply did not exist. However, Bai Lin became increasingly alarmed as he listened, because he knew that something similar to the Gates of the Underworld truly existed in the magical world—the "Veil of Death" from the original Harry Potter books. Sirius Black had fallen into the veil and died, proving that the "Theory of Primordial Limitlessness" was definitely not entirely fabricated.
Just then, the wind outside the window suddenly stopped, and Yufeng's voice came from outside: "Seimei, the Snow Woman is coming!"
Bai Linshuo said: Read this book!
