Hogwarts Summoning Guide

Chapter 2 The New Teacher Takes Office

Old George was quite talkative, and Bai Lin needed a friend to educate him on the basics of the wizarding world he didn't know. The two chatted over mead, and Old George became very interested in Bai Lin's position and salary at the Ministry of Magic—Bai Lin even wore the Ministry's insignia on his chest. Upon learning that he received 100 Galleons a month, Old George became even more enthusiastic, telling Bai Lin that his daughter, Catherine, worked at a clothing store in Hogsmeade and had just turned 19. Bai Lin felt the conversation had veered off course…

The train slowly pulled into Hogsmeade Station. Bai Lin and old George bid each other a reluctant farewell. By this time, old George was already quite drunk. Bai Lin secretly slipped 10 Galleons into his pocket as a token of his gratitude.

It was late June, and Hogwarts was on summer vacation. The station was deserted, but Bai Lin quickly spotted the person who was clearly there to pick him up—Hagrid, a half-giant who was three and a half meters tall and wearing a mole-skin coat.

Although his position was Hagrid's assistant professor, everyone could see that an assistant professor officially appointed by the Ministry of Magic had a much higher social status than Hagrid, who came from humble beginnings. Therefore, Hagrid valued this colleague who would be working with him for a year very much. He even tidied up his old coat, which was unusual for him. Only his messy hair and full beard were still in their natural state.

Because of the locked-room incident, Hagrid was imprisoned in Azkaban for several weeks and still looked very haggard, but he cheered up and waved his pink umbrella enthusiastically when he saw Bai Lin get out of the car.

Bai Lin waved enthusiastically at him, carrying a small suitcase as she went to greet him. To be honest, anyone who has read the Harry Potter stories loves this seemingly silly and cute giant. His bravery, loyalty, and love for small animals deeply moved Bai Lin, who also loves small animals.

Bai Lin shook hands with Hagrid amicably and showed him his work ID. Hagrid scratched his head and said, "So, Mr. White, shall we go to school the traditional way?"

Bai Lin nodded and said, "Let's take a boat. I also want to see the famous Hogwarts scenery. Besides, we'll be colleagues from now on, so you can call me Kelling, it'll be more friendly!"

Seeing that Bai Lin seemed easy to talk to, Hagrid relaxed a lot and said with a憨憨的 smile, "As you wish, Lord White, ah no, Mr. Kelling~"

Hagrid pulled a small boat from the dock, lit an oil lamp at the bow, and rowed Bai Lin toward the distant castle to the north. As he did so, he pointed out the surrounding scenery to Bai Lin, explaining where the Hogwarts campus was, where the Quidditch training grounds were, where the Forbidden Forest was, and the town of Hogsmeade behind the mountains in the distance.

Bai Lin, however, was drawn to a dark shadow at the bottom of the lake. He quickly flipped through the summoning encyclopedia, scrolling all the way to level 9 creatures before spotting the giant squid. He quickly looked away, thinking, "Sorry, I was just passing by. I had absolutely no intention of sealing you away..."

Bai Lin had always felt that Hogwarts was more like a huge Gothic cathedral than a castle, especially the huge banquet hall. However, it was not mealtime, and the banquet hall was empty. Hagrid led Bai Lin directly through the banquet hall and went straight upstairs to the headmaster's office.

As they walked down the main corridor, a man dressed in black, his eyes half-open and his face full of arrogance and displeasure, approached. He glanced sideways at Hagrid before fixing his gaze on Bai Lin. The snake-like look in his eyes made Bai Lin feel extremely uncomfortable. It was none other than Snape Benpo. Bai Lin curiously checked his magical power: 86, and swallowed hard. As expected of the Half-Blood Prince.

Hagrid felt very awkward, but still greeted him, though Snape completely ignored him.

The three passed each other by. Hagrid knocked on the principal's office door, and a very gentle old man's voice came from inside: "Is that Hagrid? Come in quickly!" Hagrid's footsteps were very loud, and anyone could hear them, let alone a powerful wizard.

Bai Lin was a little excited, finally able to meet his childhood idol—the legendary wizard Albus Dumbledore.

The principal's office was dimly lit, with only two light sources: a desk lamp on the large principal's desk and a Phoenix Fox on a shelf in the corner, glowing with a bright red light.

"Ah ha, it seems our new assistant professor is far more interested in Fox than this old codger of mine~" Dumbledore looked at Bai Lin with a mischievous glint in his eyes from above his half-moon spectacles, put down the quill in his hand, and it was clear that he was writing furiously, finishing some kind of work.

Bai Lin indeed sensed an extremely strong magical power and a sacred aura emanating from the phoenix. He couldn't help but put down his briefcase and reach out his hand to Fox.

It must be the +2 magical affinity attribute of Bai Lin taking effect. Fox looked at him curiously, letting him stroke its gorgeous feathers, and even squinted his eyes comfortably.

"Ah, we have a wonderful new teacher!" Dumbledore exclaimed in surprise, standing up. He wore a nightcap and a magnificent nightgown, his snow-white beard a full fifty centimeters long, yet he appeared energetic, his eyes bright and piercing. Dumbledore's magic power was: ???

Foxy let out a cry and flew to Dumbledore's shoulder, nuzzling his head.

Bai Lin stepped forward, nodded, and said, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Dumbledore. I am Bai Lin, and my English name is Kelling White. You may call me Kelling."

Dumbledore looked at the handsome and strong young man, whose eyes were full of vitality, but there was something about him that Dumbledore could not see through. It was as if Bai Lin possessed energy far beyond the magic power in his body, but was completely different from the Obscurials.

Dumbledore looked at Fawkes and said, "Fawkes told me it likes you very much. Phoenixes rarely acknowledge humans, so it seems Fudge has recommended an excellent teacher for the Magical Creatures class!"

On his way here, Bai Lin had already made a plan for himself. It was 1993, which was the summer before Harry Potter's second year of high school. A major event had occurred that summer—Sirius Black's prison break. The event was still a little over a month away, and he needed to improve his magical abilities in that month in order to keep up with the plot and survive in this new world.

Having made up his mind, Bai Lin said, "Besides assisting Professor Hagrid's teaching, I also want to complete some research on magical creatures, collect specimens, and draw atlases during my tenure. I would appreciate it if Mr. Dumbledore would grant me permission to enter the Forbidden Forest."

Dumbledore thought for a moment, then nodded and said, "Let Hagrid go with you. The Forbidden Forest is still quite dangerous. Those magical creatures can sometimes, though rarely, be a bit temperamental, such as hippogriffs and Thestrals." He then gave Hagrid a meaningful look.

Hagrid muttered, "Buckbeak and Ulquiorra are very well-behaved..."

Bai Lin chatted with Dumbledore for a few more minutes before eagerly asking Hagrid to take him to the hunting grounds. He knew Hagrid had a lot of good stuff hidden there. Although Dumbledore wanted Bai Lin to stay for dinner, Bai Lin was more interested in the magical creatures.

After passing the greenhouse, Bai Lin spotted the towering Man-Beating Willow in the distance. A gentle evening breeze blew, and the Man-Beating Willow swayed its branches softly. Bai Lin secretly checked the encyclopedia and saw that it was definitely a level 6 creature. He silently added the Man-Beating Willow to his itinerary, thinking that this thing could probably increase his encyclopedia points quite a bit.

Seeing Bai Lin staring intently at the Man-Beating Willow, Hagrid tilted his head and said, "If I were you, I wouldn't approach it so easily. It hurts a lot when it hits. Come this way, I'll show you my good friend."
