Hogwarts Summoning Guide

Chapter 1: Transmigrating to the Wizarding World

Half-asleep, Bai Lin felt a sharp pain in his forehead, and a gentle, neutral voice echoed in his mind:

[Host Muggle constitution detected]

[Bloodline correction in progress... Correction rate 35%, activation of auxiliary magic conversion system recommended]

[Automatic Acquisition of Auxiliary Magic Conversion System - Fantastic Beast Summoning Encyclopedia]

[The host can consult the encyclopedia user guide themselves.]

Bai Lin felt as if a branding iron had been pressed against his forehead, burning him so badly that he screamed and woke up from his dream. Then he heard an old voice: "Episki! (Incantation: Heal as before)"

"Huh? It didn't work!" the aged voice said with some surprise.

"Oh! Old George, your fingers are trembling, the magic has stopped working, let me do it, poor child... Ennavit (spell: Resurrect quickly)!" said another old woman's voice.

"Hahaha, my dear, who was just laughing at wise George's shaky hands? Aigu Amenti (spell: Clear Water Like a Spring)!" Old George shouted the spell again.

A basin of ice-cold water was poured over Bai Lin's head, which completely woke him up. The burning sensation on his forehead seemed to have lessened a lot, and he sat up abruptly.

He was sitting on a retro-styled train station platform, surrounded by a number of people, mostly standing two or three meters away, pointing and whispering at him. An elderly couple was kneeling beside him. This sight stunned Bai Lin.

The elderly couple, like everyone else around them, looked like typical Englishmen, probably in their seventies. They wore strange robes and each held an old, black wand, pointing it at their own faces.

Bai Lin suddenly remembered that he was originally an excellent freshman in Xia Country. He had just started his summer vacation and was using his savings from a year of part-time work to travel to various places by train for study tours.

At a remote little train station, I saw a little girl, about ten years old, playing on the platform. She accidentally fell off, and at that moment, a green train was only a hundred meters away from the platform.

In a moment of desperation, Bai Lin jumped off the platform and managed to rescue the little girl, but he was grazed by the train and hit his head on the sharp corner of the platform. After seeing a black cat staring at him intently from the corner of the platform, Bai Lin lost consciousness.

Upon waking up, Bai Lin realized that he was no longer at that remote little train station. After checking several times, he discovered that he was actually at Platform 9¾ at King's Cross Station in London, England, in 1993, in the world of Harry Potter.

Bai Lin almost fainted again, but thinking about what kind of spell the old couple might cast next, he quickly sprang to his feet. Although Bai Lin was just an ordinary, poor student, the Xia Kingdom before his transmigration highly valued martial arts for physical fitness, so he was quite skilled.

The train slowly came to a stop, and Bai Lin saw his reflection in the train window—his face was still the same handsome face, but his hair had turned brown. Even more strangely, just like Harry Potter's lightning bolt-shaped scar on his forehead, he also had a scar on his forehead, the place where he had just felt the hot iron, but its shape was actually a cute cat paw.

After repeatedly thanking the elderly couple who had saved him, perhaps influenced by the memories of the original owner of this body, Bai Lin inexplicably boarded the train according to the ticket clipped to his chest pocket. Once seated, he intended to sort out his thoughts.

For unknown reasons, I, who should have died from hitting my head, was reborn in the world of Harry Potter and even obtained something called the Fantastic Beasts Summoning Encyclopedia.

Whenever Bai Lin touches the scar on his forehead, a thick, ancient book appears before him, its title written in strange fairy script.

This book is like a 3D projection that belongs only to Bai Lin, but no one else around him seems to be able to see it.

Of course, this is a magical world. Compared to a floating ancient tree, the strange people who walk around with all sorts of bizarre gadgets are much more eye-catching than Bai Lin. For example, there is an old witch who wears a voodoo doll made from a real human head around her neck.

Bai Lin suppressed his surprise and panic, focusing his attention on the ancient book. He had a premonition that this thing was his only means of survival in the magical world.

Upon opening the first page, the guide to the Summoning Encyclopedia appeared in Bai Lin's mind. The rules for using it were quite complicated, and it took Bai Lin half an hour to finally understand them.

Because Bai Lin's wizard bloodline is only 35%, barely exceeding that of an ordinary Muggle, his body is naturally unable to withstand much magic. Therefore, that unknown power bestowed upon him this ancient book. If Bai Lin can subdue and seal the various magical creatures recorded within the book, the book can serve as a medium to provide him with corresponding magic and skills.

Opening the ancient book, one finds a dense array of gray illustrations, ranging from level 1 Mandrake to level 10 Basilisks and Fire Dragons, with the latter half being a blank page for Bai Lin to explore on his own.

His identity in this world was immediately apparent from his work ID in his wallet: Kylin White, of Chinese descent, 20 years old, employed by the Department of Magical Creatures Control on the fourth floor of the British Ministry of Magic as a Magical Creatures Researcher, with a monthly salary of 100 Galleons (equivalent to approximately RMB 4700 at the time).

There was also a note on the back of the work pass, a message from Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic of the United Kingdom: "Keep an eye on Dumbledore and those strange teachers and students. Report to me if anything seems amiss, especially that giant who's always causing trouble; I'm fed up with him. Also, I've drawn two months' salary for you; you'd better not disappoint me."

The wallet, though small, was bulging enough to hold hundreds of Galleons and a pile of Silver Sickles—a considerable sum. Bai Lin's bad mood, stemming from being hit by a train, instantly lifted.

And there was the small suitcase that the kind elderly couple had helped him find, containing his appointment letter. After Fudge took office, he began to have many opinions about the teaching at Hogwarts. For example, regarding the appointment of teachers, Professor Quirrell, who was to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts, turned out to be a Death Eater (actually a temporary Horcrux), and Hagrid, who was to teach Protection of Magical Creatures, had not graduated from Hogwarts and was not even allowed to use a wand—he was not qualified to be a teacher at all...

So Fudge appointed his distant nephew (who knows where he is now) Whitelin to Hogwarts as an assistant professor of the Department of Protecting Magical Creatures, and as an undercover agent for the Ministry of Magic (such an obvious undercover agent...).

The train roared forward, the beautiful scenery outside the window rushing past, but Bai Lin had no interest in looking at it, because he saw a line of information on the back of the illustrated guide:

[Bai Lin: Strength 13, Magic 15 (Evaluation: You're only slightly stronger than a Muggle, or rather, you are a Muggle)]

[Total Encyclopedia Completion Score: 0, Encyclopedia Magic Bonus: 0, Summoned Beasts: 0, Magical Creature Affinity: +2]

Bai Lin discovered that he could also see the attributes of other wizards on the train. One wizard, who looked ordinary and slovenly, was reading the Daily Prophet: Strength 7, Magic 29.

He must have trained in martial arts since childhood, making him much stronger than the average wizard, but his magic is completely lacking, because 12 is the dividing line between Muggles and wizards...

Just then, a large black rat was chasing a brown two-tailed squirrel past him. Bai Lin immediately saw information about the two creatures: both were level 1 creatures, probably pets of some wizard.

While the wizards on the train were reading newspapers or dozing off, Bai Lin took out his wand, aimed it at the large black rat, and cast a spell: "Faint!" The wand emitted a little smoke; the spell failed. WTF!

Bai Lin was completely focused. When the large black rat passed by his seat again, he cast the spell once more, and the rat was immediately struck and fell to the ground.

Bai Lin quickly pointed the summoning encyclopedia at the large black rat lying on the ground and whispered, "Seal!"

The summoning encyclopedia immediately emitted a faint blue light, and in the blink of an eye, the unconscious black rat disappeared. On the level 1 creature encyclopedia, the rat section lit up partially, indicating a 5% completion rate. It seems that many more rats need to be caught.

Just from the two unconscious people lying on the ground, Bai Lin felt his magic power was running low. Just then, a few wizards walked over from the front carriage. The one in the lead was probably looking for his pet. He looked under every seat. Behind him was the old wizard named George. When he saw Bai Lin, he couldn't help but smile and raised his two large beer mugs, waving them at Bai Lin.
