Chapter 163 Fire Dragon is not very difficult
The female reporter, Rita, didn't know how the interview ended. She felt that if she said another word to Bai Lin, he would make her lungs explode with anger.
But when the party ended, she still managed to grab Harry and drag him to a corner of the castle, where she had the photographer keep watch. Harry had no experience dealing with a strong woman in her forties and was momentarily at a loss.
"An eleven-year-old boy, yet destined to participate in this legendary competition..." Rita said to herself, staring at Harry without asking him anything. The magic quill beside her automatically recorded it. Harry glanced at it and saw that the quill had even added prefixes such as "tragic birth" and "famous for both honor and death".
"I'm fourteen! And what is it writing?" Harry protested.
"Oh! Never mind that pen," Rita said, pulling Harry aside. "How much do you want to participate in this competition? Is it out of some inner heroism, or just the craving for attention of an eleven-year-old boy?"
"Fourteen! I didn't sign up! I don't want to participate in the competition!" Harry shouted.
But the quill pen continued to write furiously: "His tearful eyes were filled with stubbornness and defiance against fate, as if telling the world that no matter what method he used, he would become a star among wizards..."
Harry almost snatched the quill and broke it in two. At that moment, he fully understood what Ron meant when he said: "I've never seen such a distorted reporter. Her articles are all made up..."
But Rita was clearly prepared, standing tall and proud in front of the quill pen. If Harry took another step forward, he might bump into her chest. Meanwhile, the photographer was already waiting with his camera raised. The quill pen had already written: "This boy, who lost his mother at a young age, has a morbid attachment to middle-aged women, which led him to make embarrassing gestures towards the 'beautiful' reporter..." If Harry made another move, he would be in deep trouble.
Harry didn't know how he got down from the tower. He felt dazed and confused, wondering how absurd it was that his story had been published in the Daily Prophet.
However, a figure was waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs. Bai Lin stepped forward and patted his head, saying, "Don't worry, once what she just wrote is published, I have a way to deal with her. Just wait and see!"
Harry's worldview was clearly shaken, and he said indignantly, "Professor, how could she do that!"
"Haha, this is nothing. Believe me, the things she made up are much more serious. Leave it to me, I'll make her pay!" Bai Lin laughed.
In the original books, Rita Skeeter published a book called "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore" in the seventh book, *Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows*. In it, she claimed to be one of the few people who truly understood Harry, even going so far as to say that Harry and Dumbledore's relationship was evil! She also "revealed" to the public that after Dumbledore's fall, Potter fled the scene hastily, providing the Death Eaters with a perfect excuse to capture Harry. This is not just simple fabrication; it's a cruel and malicious slander, enough to make one want to strangle her.
Normally, Bai Lin wouldn't have bothered with such a nobody, but since she took the initiative to come to his door today, he was still furious and decided to teach her a lesson.
Aside from taking photos and giving interviews before the match, Dumbledore refused to let reporters stay at Hogwarts to avoid misinterpreting the event or maliciously misleading public opinion. Dumbledore knew very well that if the outside world knew that they were using a dragon as the first challenge and "kidnapping" innocent warriors' relatives and friends as sacrifices for the second challenge, they would be condemned by the media.
But Bai Lin knew that Rita's gossipy heart couldn't be contained.
With victory assured, Bai Lin enjoyed a delicious dinner on the eve of the match, took a leisurely stroll in the castle, and calmly opened the Marauder's Map. Sure enough, he found Rita Skeeter's name in the castle.
"Ha, you've got a way to heaven but you're barging into hell!" He pulled out a small piece of paper and sent a message to Hermione.
His special operations team surrounded the target. Without Bai Lin having to lift a finger, the children excitedly found Bai Lin in less than half an hour.
In Bai Lin's common room, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Eddie, Dean, and Neville were all there. Eddie was holding a glass jar, while Hermione was blushing and clutching a manuscript and a broken green quill pen.
Bai Lin took the glass jar from Eddie and looked inside. Inside, a beetle with very large eyes was flying around in terror, darting left and right.
"Professor! This guy is just... utterly wicked!" Hermione couldn't find any more vicious words to curse the beetle. She showed the notes in her hand to Bai Lin, and everyone gathered around, utterly dumbfounded.
The manuscript details a love quadrangle between Miss Granger, Gollum, Harry, and Ron. Miss Granger is a master of time management, effortlessly navigating the relationships with the three boys, making her arguably the first female sea queen of Hogwarts. There are even detailed descriptions of physical contact, with explicit language reminiscent of an adult novel.
Harry was so engrossed in reading the detailed descriptions of himself and Hermione in the manuscript that he almost wanted to dig a hole and disappear. Ron, on the other hand, seemed more bothered by the inclusion of Gollum, who wasn't even a student at Hogwarts.
"What should we do with it? Burn it?" Eddie asked. The children all assumed the beetle was Rita Skeeter's pet or spy, since no one had ever heard of Rita Skeeter being an illegal Animagus who often transformed into beetles to spy on her targets' privacy. Strangely enough, wizards who could transform into insects were extremely rare, and the children never even considered that possibility.
Upon hearing Eddie's suggestion, the beetle inside the jar frantically rammed against the glass wall. However, this jar was specially sealed with a sealing spell by Bai Lin, just like when he captured Peter Pettigrew. Once Animagus was put inside, he was unable to recover or speak, and could only frantically ram against it in protest.
"Leave it to me, I'll find it a companion. I think it'll be a good treat for the Niffler!" Bai Lin said with a grin, shaking the jar.
Seemingly realizing it was doomed, the beetle landed at the bottom of the jar, and at that moment it must have been devastated.
After tossing the manuscript and quill into the fireplace and burning them to ashes, Hermione and Harry finally breathed a sigh of relief. Bai Lin patted Harry on the shoulder and said, "Get ready for tomorrow's match!"
After seeing the other students off, Harry turned back to Bai Lin and said, "Professor... although I think you probably don't care... our first challenge is a dragon..."
Bai Lin suddenly remembered that Hagrid should have already taken Harry to see the dragons that had been transported over. However, based on Bai Lin's experience, hiding dragons in the forest like in the movies was a joke. He knew all too well how much trouble four or five different kinds of dragons could cause together; the entire forest would probably be burned down.
"There were Hungarian Horned Bee Dragons, Welsh Green Dragons, Fireball Dragons, Swedish Short-nosed Dragons... and a huge cage with four wizards guarding it, which was frozen into an ice sculpture... I didn't see what was inside..." Harry said.
"Don't worry, I can handle it. Dragons aren't that difficult for me... You still need to be careful!" Bai Lin patted Harry on the shoulder. "You'll find a way to deal with it."
After seeing Harry off, Bai Lin glanced at the terrified Beetle Lady in the glass jar and gave an "evil" smile. He hated people who exaggerate, spread rumors, and even destroy others through slander and fabrication. In the original story, Hermione hated her very much but still let her go. However, after she was freed, she did not repent at all but became even worse. Instead of writing press releases, she published books to slander and exploit Dumbledore and Snape, who sacrificed themselves to fight Voldemort, which was infuriating.
"Seal her! Go keep Peter company!" Bai Lin was too lazy to waste words with her and simply sealed her away.
Successfully sealed the Animagus. This seal is for the smallest Animagus in this world. Special reward: 100 contribution points.
"We made a profit, haha!" Bai Lin said happily. You see, although the team was rewarded with 3000 points last time, he divided them among several team members, and each person only had a few hundred points. Hagrid exchanged them all for Mind Magic Resistance Runes, because he was too terrified of being controlled by Mind Magic. Qiqi exchanged for a pair of shoes and a Divine Edge Rune, turning her scimitar into a divine weapon. Youxi and Zhuobi each exchanged for a piece of equipment that increased magic power. In no time, the points were gone. It would be good to get an extra 100 points, after all, fighting against Hastur cultists is quite dangerous.
Nothing more was said that night, and Bai Lin hadn't been able to see Catherine for the past few days. Perhaps it was a good thing that he hadn't seen her.
Early the next morning, Hagrid woke him up and told him to go to a gladiatorial arena built in the mountains about a mile away. It looked quite old, and Bai Lin had never noticed that there was a building there before.
The Colosseum was much larger than depicted in the movies, and it was protected by a barrier to prevent the dragons from accidentally injuring the audience.
The arena appears to have been used multiple times throughout history, with obvious signs of damage from wild animals in the stands. It was clearly not large enough to accommodate all the students and faculty, and was now packed to capacity. Many students were waiting outside for the results, much like fans who couldn't get concert tickets and were standing outside the stadium trying to get a free show. The twins, with ticket boxes hanging around their necks, were going in and out with Li Jordan, selling betting tickets.
Bai Lin was very curious: You guys are just gambling so openly, and the teachers don't care?
Until he saw Professor Flitwick sneak over and bet on himself to win. Fred said with a look of regret, "Ah, Professor, you should have bet on Professor Kelling to lose; his odds of winning were only 1:01..."
Flitwick blew on his beard and said, "Earning 10 is already pretty good. Do I look like that kind of fool?" It seemed he had a lot of confidence in Bai Lin.
Eddie scurried over to Bai Lin and said, "Professor, I still have 5 Galleons left. Is it okay to bet on you to win?"
Bai Lin pulled out five Galleons and handed them to him, saying, "Go bet 5 Galleons on Harry winning; his odds are high!"
Seeing Bai Lin's determined gaze, Eddie strode over and bet on ten Galleons of Harry. However, George patted him on the shoulder with ill intent, and Eddie immediately felt that he had been tricked. Although the odds for Harry were 112, Eddie felt that he might lose everything.
As soon as Bai Lin stepped into the backstage tent, he saw Hermione hug Harry tightly, her face full of worry. At first glance, Bai Lin would definitely think that Hermione had feelings for Harry. However, having read the whole story, he knew that at this moment, Hermione was still showing concern like a good friend, and even had a subtle feeling that she regarded Harry as her younger brother.
If someone hadn't been dealt with, this scene would definitely have been filmed, and then an exaggerated and absurd story would have been fabricated.
Bai Lin glanced at Krum, who remained calm and didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with Hermione hugging another boy. But Bai Lin knew that Krum already liked Hermione very much at this point, but he was a very calm and mentally strong boy.
Hermione saw Bai Lin come in and rushed over to give him a hard punch: "You didn't even tell me about such a dangerous project! You know Harry isn't as strong as you, and he hasn't even learned as much as them... What if something happened to him..."
Bai Lin scratched his head somewhat awkwardly and said, "He's stronger than you think. I have a lot of confidence in him. Besides, you shouldn't only be worried about him, right?"
Hermione glared at him, but still stepped forward and gave him a hug, warning him to be careful. Fleur, watching them from the side, had a rather amused look in her eyes.
A moment later, the judges rushed in. Dumbledore, while explaining the rules of the first challenge, the Dragon's Nest Egg-stealing, turned around and said, "Miss Granger, what are you doing here?" Hermione was so embarrassed that she could dig a three-bedroom apartment out of the ground with her toes, and she quickly ran away.
Then the five men each drew their opponent from the bag in Old Barty's hand:
Hibiscus dealt with the Wells Green Dragon, which was the most docile and posed little challenge.
Krum dealt with the Fireball Dragon. Although the dragon had considerable firepower, it was only a minor challenge for Krum, who was agile and proficient in dark magic.
Then Cedric drew the Swedish short-nosed dragon, which was decent but not particularly ferocious.
When Harry drew the Hornet Dragon, the entire arena gasped in surprise, as the Hungarian Hornet Dragon was the most ferocious and savage of these dragons. However, Bai Lin couldn't understand why, if Barty wanted to "arrange" a victory for Harry, he would give him such a formidable opponent. If Harry hadn't undergone special training, and was accidentally roasted alive by the dragon, wouldn't Voldemort's resurrection plan have collapsed before it was even halfway through?
However, judging from Barty's expression, he seemed to have complete confidence in Harry. Suddenly, Bai Lin realized something: Barty must have found out that Harry had taken care of the Hungarian Hornet Dragon at the Magical Zoo, which was why he made this special arrangement!
Bai Lin rolled his eyes, never expecting the cause-and-effect relationship to be reversed.
"Finally, your opponent, Karin White." Old Barty took out another cloth bag, opened the bag, and a dark figure rushed out of the bag, flying wildly and screaming in mid-air.
Bai Lin looked at it and exclaimed, "Good heavens! Did the Ringwraith from Lord of the Rings wander onto the wrong set? This is clearly a black dragon, and a two-headed one at that!"
