Infinite Terror: I Have a Chat Group
Chapter 4: The Shadow of Death!
"We are employed by Umbrella Corporation, including you... This gate leads to 'The Hive,' and you are a registered gate security guard for the company, which is why we brought you along."
Mercenary captain Matthew Addison answered Alice's question.
Alice looked confused. She stroked a wedding ring on her finger and murmured, "Then what's this?"
Matthew Addison nodded and said, "You're not married. It's just a cover-up, and also a sign that you're protecting the Hive."
"So what is a beehive?"
A non-mercenary man in the crowd asked a question.
Lin Yu gave the man a strange look.
Those who have seen the movie know that the man's name is Spence Parks, the male protagonist of the movie, and the one who released the T-virus.
In a sense, he is the cause of the Resident Evil crisis. In terms of importance, he is definitely more important than the mercenary captain Matthew. You can definitely get side stories from him!
But there's no rush now; we'll wait until we gain the mercenaries' trust.
Matthew Addison said to another mercenary, "Show them."
The man nodded, then started pressing keys on the computer keyboard. After a moment, some images appeared on his laptop.
Then Matthew explained the images to everyone, letting them know some of the details about the hive.
"And what about them?"
Alice suddenly pointed at Lin Yu and his group and asked.
Zheng Zha and the others were startled by what they heard. They thought they were characters outside of horror movies, who would only have to avoid monsters and wouldn't interact with the characters in the plot. They never expected the female lead to point at them and talk to them.
Lin Yu sighed inwardly again. Zheng Zha and the others' performance just now must have deepened the mercenaries' suspicions. It could only be said that Zheng Zha and the others hadn't accepted reality yet and were deceiving themselves. Otherwise, they wouldn't have such thoughts. After all, Zhang Jie had just said that the characters in the plot could hear them talking.
Matthew Addison said, "They're security guards here too, the company keeps records of them... but I highly doubt whether the company's higher-ups made a mistake. Apart from that Asian man being a qualified soldier, these people are just ordinary citizens."
Spence said, "Why did we lose our memories? I can't remember anything right now."
Matthew Addison replied, "The Hive has its own defense system, controlled by the central computer, the Flame Queen. When the Hive is deemed to be under attack, the central computer releases a nerve gas that will render people unconscious for about four hours. Upon waking, a series of side effects will occur, one of which is memory loss."
Spence asked, "Amnesia? How long will this state last?"
"It depends on the individual's physical condition; it could be an hour, a day, or even a week."
Another young, non-mercenary soldier standing nearby suddenly asked, "You mean the hive has been attacked? Are there terrorists inside?"
Matthew Addison looked at him and said, "...maybe it's even worse than that."
Although he didn't know exactly what had happened, Matthew Addison already had a bad feeling.
Soon, a sound came from the gate at the platform, and a mercenary reported, "Captain, the gate has been opened, and we can go in now."
Matthew nodded and led everyone toward the gate.
Upon arriving at the gate, they found the inside completely dark. Matthew asked Zhang Jie to turn on the light switch, but Zhang Jie didn't care and walked in nonchalantly. After all, he knew the plot and that as long as the main computer wasn't shut down, it was still safe here. Besides, with his abilities, he didn't need to be afraid of any problems.
Soon, the lights came on, and the room gradually brightened up. In particular, the windows on the wall revealed the scenery between the city's high-rise buildings. Outside, the sun was shining brightly and the sky was a clear blue, making one wonder if they were still on the ground.
A mercenary took out a detector and walked around, then reported to Matthew, "The gas has dissipated; it's safe here now."
Matthew nodded and headed straight for the elevator. The elevator wouldn't open, clearly damaged. The group worked together to pry open the elevator doors, only to find it pitch black inside. A mercenary threw down a flare, and as the light faded, they finally saw the mangled elevator at the deepest part, with traces of blood still visible.
"Captain, it looks like we'll have to take the stairs," the mercenary who threw the flare said to Matthew.
Matthew Addison looked grim and immediately ordered everyone, "Take the stairs. We must reach the bottom in ten minutes. Everyone, follow me!"
Lin Yu quickly followed, not daring to waste a single second.
The Death Staircase, the first place where someone died in the original story. Although Lin Yu didn't think he would die like the chubby boy in the original story, nothing is absolute. Who knows if the Death Staircase will be more difficult than imagined, so he had to be careful.
Theoretically speaking, the Death Staircase shouldn't be too difficult. After all, a distance of 500 meters is more than 100 flights of stairs, and a normal adult should be able to get through it.
A few minutes passed. The Death Staircase was easier than Lin Yu had imagined. After descending dozens of floors, he was only slightly out of breath. Among the group, only Zhan Lan had relatively poor stamina, but she did not fall behind with Zhang Jie's help. In Lin Yu's opinion, even without Zhang Jie's help, Zhan Lan might have fallen behind a bit, but she would definitely not have fallen a hundred meters behind.
The only one who was left behind was a middle-aged woman. However, Lin Yu could tell that although this woman was not physically strong, the main reason she was left behind was that she did not try her best. Perhaps she did not believe Zhang Jie's words.
After a while, Zhang Jie, who was in front, suddenly announced, "One player is eliminated!"
Zheng Zha, who was right behind Zhang Jie, asked curiously, "What? One person was eliminated?"
Zhang Jie sneered, "Don't take my words lightly. This is the real world. We die here. Maybe you're not aware of this yet and just think it's a movie? It explodes if you leave his side by a hundred meters. That's one of the rules. She... is doomed!"
"boom!"
A loud explosion rang out, but the mercenaries didn't react; only Lin Yu and his group could hear it.
There was no doubt that this was the work of the main god. Everyone was startled, including Lin Yu. Even though he knew that it was far from being annihilated, he couldn't help but quicken his pace.
[God, you're just a fucking...]
Lin Yu cursed the Supreme God in his heart to alleviate his fear.
Lin Yu was already mentally prepared that the old lady would be wiped out by the main god. He thought he could face it calmly, but when the explosion actually rang in his ears, his heart began to beat violently involuntarily.
Even though he knew he wouldn't be eliminated, when the old woman was eliminated by the main god, especially when the main god deliberately let the sound of the explosion reach his ears, Lin Yu truly realized that death was approaching and could happen to him at any moment. Thus, an indescribable fear rose in his heart.
It was only at this moment that Lin Yu truly realized that he was not a bystander, but a participant. Death could come upon him at any moment. Even though he had made a plan and seemed to be able to easily get through this horror movie, nothing is absolute, and you never know what unexpected thing might happen.
For example, going down the stairs now, he might accidentally slip and fall; or in the laser tunnel, the mercenary captain chose him to enter, and all sorts of accidents could happen. Just thinking about how close death was to him filled Lin Yu with indescribable fear.
Previously, Lin Yu considered himself a very calm person, and even if someone died beside him, he shouldn't have much of an emotional reaction.
But now I understand that when death is far away, everyone can remain calm, but when you face it up close, how many people can stay rational?
However, Lin Yu was good at self-regulation. He cursed the main god a few times in his heart, and his fear was relieved a lot.
