Infinite Terror: I Have a Chat Group

Chapter 5 Self-Introduction!

A few minutes later, as the group approached the bottom of the stairs, a mercenary shouted, "Sir, the Flame Queen has locked onto us; she knows we're here."

Upon hearing this, the female protagonist, Alice, asked curiously, "Who is the Flame Queen?"

Matthew Addison glanced at her and said, "The Flame Queen is the best artificial intelligence system in the country. It controls the entire hive and is the central main computer here."

Soon, everyone went down the stairs, the mercenaries began to scout the area, and Lin Yu and his companions could finally rest for a while.

Zhang Jie turned around and looked at the panting crowd with a sneer. He shook his head and said, "Hang in there. You should thank God that you've survived. To be honest, you've been lucky enough. This horror movie has a very low danger level. In fact, it's one of the few horror movies where you can solve problems with bullets. Hang in there. As long as you survive this horror movie, you'll get a thousand reward points to improve your physical condition."

Zhang Jie is right. Resident Evil 1 is indeed not very difficult, but the premise is that you have to have the right mindset. Before, Lin Yu was still mocking the chubby guy and the middle-aged woman in the original work in his heart, but the God of War's warning made Lin Yu realize that he was not much different from them. If it weren't for the God of War's warning, he might have suffered a great loss later. In this respect, Lin Yu should thank the God of War.

Matthew Addison led his team deeper and deeper, and gradually some isolated laboratories appeared on both sides of the corridor. They were all filled with water, and in addition to the water, there were also floating corpses.

"Oh no!"

One of the mercenaries said, "These laboratories are the only way to get to the Flame Queen, but they're all flooded now. I don't think we can get in."

Matthew Addison nodded and said, "Raine, J.D., go and see if the water can be drained."

The two mercenaries responded and then walked deeper into the passage with their guns.

Looking at the flooded research institute, Matthew Addison continued, "Kaplan, Zhang Jie, you two go find another path to the Flame Queen."

Kaplan raised his gun at the two men following behind Ryan, but Zhang Jie waved to Zheng Zha and the others and followed them nonchalantly.

After the group had walked a distance, Spence suddenly asked, "What exactly happened here? Why do these research rooms look like...?"

Matthew Addison looked at everyone before saying, "About five hours ago, the Flame Queen manipulated the sealing off of the entire hive, then used the internal defense system to start killing people, releasing poison gas, cutting off elevators, shutting down research labs, and so on. She wiped out everyone in this experimental area."

He paused, then continued, "When the company realized something was wrong here, our team was dispatched to shut it down. That's why we're here."

Just as the female protagonist was chatting with the mercenaries, someone suddenly shouted. Everyone looked over and saw that the person who made the shout was a young man named Matt, who had been handcuffed at the beginning and claimed to be looking for his sister.

When everyone looked over, they understood why he had shouted. It turned out that a figure had appeared on the glass wall next to him—a female corpse floating in the water.

Not only was Matt frightened, but everyone else was too. Even the mercenaries looked uneasy. The wounded corpses, which had been soaking in the water for a long time, were absolutely terrifying!

Lin Yu's hands and feet were cold, and his fear was no less than anyone else's, but he still forced himself to continue looking at the corpse, trying to get used to it as soon as possible.

We can't be too scared to fight the zombies later, can we?

Zheng Zha was also staring at the corpse, probably for the same reason.

"Hey, how about we introduce ourselves? After all, we'll be relying on each other soon."

Zhan Lan patted Zheng Zha, startling him.

No one else had any objections, so Zhan Lan took the lead in introducing herself.

"My name is Zhan Lan, Zhan as in Zhan Tianyou, and Lan as in mountain wind. Hehe, it sounds like a boy's name, right? I'm a writer. Before coming here, I kept complaining that I had no desire or inspiration to write. I never expected to come to this world of endless inspiration. Hehe, I guess this is karma."

Zheng Zha smiled amicably and said, "Zheng Zha, Zheng as in Zheng Chenggong, Zha as in Nezha. My profession is a company manager. Uh, before I came here, I did complain that the real world was too boring, so bland that it felt like people were rotting away day by day, so I wanted to find some excitement... but the excitement here is just too intense."

Zhan Lan smiled and shook Zheng Zha's hand, saying, "A kindred spirit, actually, that's what I think too."

The middle-aged man chuckled and said, "Mu Gang, Mu as in Mou, Gang as in Gang. Sigh, I can't compare to you cultured people. Anyway, that's my name. I'm a long-haul truck driver. Before coming here, I did complain about my wife being too stingy and my son being useless. In short, I was very disappointed with reality. I clicked 'confirm' while playing games online with my friends, and that's how I ended up here."

Seeing that Lin Yu didn't intend to speak, another young man who looked quite young spoke up: "Li Xiaoyi, a senior high school student, complained about many things before coming here, but coming here is actually quite good. As long as you don't die, you can become a superman. And according to Zhang Jie, as long as you can go back, it seems that this enhanced ability can be maintained. I can't stand being bullied at school anymore. If I can go back, I will definitely kill those bastards!"

After the others finished their introductions, everyone looked at Lin Yu.

"Lin Yu, 'Lin' as in 'two trees make a forest,' and 'Yu' as in 'ascending to heaven,' was just an ordinary laborer before coming here. I never expected to end up in the Main God Space. I don't know whether to call it luck or bad luck!"

"Luck? Can you even call it luck to come to this place?"

Zheng Zha was somewhat surprised, not understanding why Lin Yu would say that.

Lin Yu didn't explain, he just smiled and remained silent.

Although the God Realm is dangerous, it offers the hope of transcending the mundane and becoming an immortal or a god is not impossible. If given the choice, many people would probably choose to enter.

Zhan Lan also felt that Lin Yu was a bit strange and was about to have a deeper conversation with him when Zhang Jie, who had returned from scouting, suddenly slapped her on the butt, interrupting their conversation.

"Sir, we've found another route, but it'll probably take longer to get there. Let's go back here first, then go through Restaurant B and head straight to our destination. This route might take twice as long," Zhang Jie and another mercenary reported to Matthew.

At this moment, the other two scouts returned. The long-haired female mercenary named Rein said, "Sir, we can't get over there at all. This floor has been completely submerged."

Matthew Addison nodded and said, "Alright, let's take the second route. We don't have much time left, everyone hurry up."

Left with no other choice, Zheng Zha and the others had to follow the main group back the way they came. Fortunately, this time the mercenaries didn't run away. After walking for an unknown amount of time, the group finally stopped outside an iron gate. One of the mercenaries used a computer to open the gate, and then the men in the front row carefully walked inside with guns in hand.

This is a vast hall filled with countless small shipping containers, each several meters in volume. A chilling aura emanates from these containers. Anyone who has seen Resident Evil 1 knows that this is Restaurant B, where a large number of crawlers are frozen. Once the main computer is shut down, these crawlers will become the most terrifying alien creatures, posing a far greater threat than ordinary zombies.

A mercenary looked at the computer and said, "This is Restaurant B... that's what the map says."

Matthew Addison walked over to him and looked at the computer, but Matt said beside him, "Maybe there are some secrets hidden here, secrets that some companies don't want the outside world to know..."

Matthew Addison glanced at him but didn't say anything. He simply told the mercenaries beside him, "J.D., Ryan, Zhang Jie, you stay here and watch the prisoners, then guard the exit."

At this moment, another female mercenary suddenly said, "Captain, the gas level here is zero. It's possible that no poison gas has been released here, or perhaps the defense system here has malfunctioned."

Matthew nodded and said, "Okay, J.D., Ryan, Zhang Jie, there might still be survivors hiding here. Search them, but don't go too far. You must keep an eye on the prisoners and the exit, understand?"

At this moment, Zhan Lan walked up to Zhang Jie and whispered, "I want to know something: can we change the plot of the movie?"

Zhang Jie nodded and said, "Go on, is there anything else you want to ask?"

She laughed, a laugh that sounded like some kind of silver wind chime. She said, "So, can we use plastic bombs here? If we kill all the crawlers in this room, wouldn't we get thousands of reward points?"

Zhang Jie laughed and said, "That's true, yes, blowing this up will get you thousands of reward points, but I have two questions for you. First, will they give us time to place the plastic bombs?" He pointed to the mercenaries.

"They don't know what any of this is, nor do they know the consequences of shutting down the main computer. If they see us doing things they can't understand, the most likely outcome is that they'll shoot at us first, potentially releasing the crawlers prematurely. The 'God' won't let you successfully change the plot so easily. Even if you do, it'll likely increase the difficulty and the number of unexpected events along the way. Got it?"

Lin Yu shook his head. Zhang Jie was right; changing the plot would indeed be dangerous. But in the end, it all came down to strength. With strength, gaining the trust of the mercenaries would be easy, and the reward points from Restaurant B wouldn't be out of reach.

Furthermore, in Infinite Terror, danger and reward are not necessarily proportional. Sometimes, you may encounter situations where the reward is generous but the risk is very small. Restaurant B is undoubtedly such a situation. It's just a pity that even the smallest risk is not something that the current Central Continent Team can afford.

Ultimately, it's Zhang Jie's fault. If Zhang Jie were a normal senior employee, he could have easily taken the reward from Restaurant B.
