I'm not a goblin Frankenstein's monster.

Chapter 16 The Object of Observation, The Nameless Adventurer

As the medicine slowly flowed into the elf's mouth, her twisted and broken arm began to heal at a speed visible to the naked eye.

The bones were back in place and the skin and flesh had healed. Although it was still wrapped in bandages, at least it was no longer that miserable, drooping appearance.

"Is it really that amazing?" Xia Lin couldn't help but whisper.

"Otherwise, how could it be worth five gold coins?" Ezio, standing to the side, curled his lip, wiping the blood off his dagger. "This small bottle alone is enough for an ordinary family to eat for several months."

Xia Lin silently calculated her meager savings; she figured she could scrape together enough for a bottle even if she had to sell everything she owned.

"This is just the low-end price," Targen explained to Xia Lin as he put away the empty bottle. "If it were a high-end healing potion, the price would be several times higher, and of course, the effects would be much stronger."

He paused, then looked at Leah:

"That's it for the low-level potion. The bone is set, but you'll need to rest for the next few days. Luckily, our team always keeps one on hand, otherwise you'd be in real trouble on this journey."

Then, he added, his tone calm but leaving no room for argument:

"By the way, the cost of this potion will be deducted from your earnings from this mission."

Leah clutched her arm, staggered to her feet, moved her stiff arm a few times, and grinned:

"No problem. This trip should be quite fruitful, the deduction was worthwhile."

Tagan nodded, then turned to look at the mess on the ground:

"Let's clean up the mess."

Ezio's eyes lit up, and he rubbed his hands together:

"Now it's time for my favorite part."

The group dispersed, searching among the goblin and goblin corpses for valuable items.

If they encounter someone who is still breathing, they will readily offer to "help out".

Xia Lin collected the orbs of light from the corpses one by one—two from the goblin and one from the goblin.

The goblin's bone staff had broken in two, and Xia Lin then realized that it wasn't the staff's "manufacturing process" that was flawed, but rather that it had originally been pieced together.

The upper half is an unidentified skeleton inlaid with red crystals, while the lower half resembles a broken spear shaft, its material dark and cold to the touch.

With a slight thought, he quietly activated the [Identification Technique].

Blurry text appeared in my field of vision:

【Red Crystal Inlaid Bone Staff (Monster Remains - Fire Casting Medium)】

It is made primarily of the leg bone of a certain monster, and inlaid with a red crystal from a mine.

Effects: Fire spells gain +1 power, and mana loss is reduced. The fire elemental affinity remaining in the bones accelerates casting.

[Half of a pitch-black shaft (imported mineral, unrefined)]

It is crudely cast from unknown minerals, meteorites, and iron ore, and its surface is covered with pores and impurities.

Effect: Provides good toughness to ordinary swords. Can be used as material for remelting and forging.

"Huh?" Xia Lin was taken aback.

"From outside? Does that mean a meteorite from outer space? The blacksmith Sinda did mention that meteorite iron is rare, but this amount is probably not even enough to forge a decent dagger."

He secretly made a note of it, intending to show it to the blacksmith on his way back.

Having just finished tidying up here, and about to turn around and rejoin the group, I caught a glimpse of the bone necklace around the earth goblin's neck.

Bone Necklace (Tribal Rune - Object of Observation)

Made of unidentified stone and bone, it is engraved with goblin tribal sacrificial runes. The meaning is obscure, vaguely implying "Make the goblins great again..."

Effect: The wearer gains slight flame resistance and feels comfortable in high-temperature environments.

Warning: Frequent use may strengthen the connection with an unknown entity. Those with weak wills may hear whispered calls and gradually develop fanatical beliefs.

At the very moment the information appeared, a chill suddenly ran down Xia Lin's spine.

It was as if some indescribable being, from afar, cast a glance at him.

"..."

He pursed his lips, remained silent, and used the tip of his sword to lift the necklace, trying to maintain a "safe distance."

On the other side, Targon and Leah had already salvaged several weapons that were still in relatively good condition.

As for armor, goblins are always dirt poor; their gear is either rusted or tattered, and not a single piece is usable.

As Lia was counting, she looked up and saw Xia Lin walking towards her carrying a string of bone necklaces:

"Not bad, you're quite particular. You're an adventurer with a cleanliness obsession?"

Xia Lin didn't mention the palpitation she had just felt. Even if she did, probably no one would take it seriously.

Ezio leaned closer, grinned, and gave him a thumbs up:

"Brilliant! Who knows what these green-skinned things have been through before? It's better to be careful."

Leah rolled her eyes at him:

"You think everyone's like you? Running around fooling around and keeping a diary, as if you're afraid no one knows, huh?"

"I was just gathering material for my writing!" Ezio retorted, then added smugly, "When I publish my book, I'll give everyone a copy!"

He lowered his voice and nudged Xia Lin with his elbow:

"Bro, I'll get you a hardcover edition with illustrations later."

Xia Lin was taken aback.

After that battle, the subtle barriers within the team seemed to have quietly melted away.

He was somewhat flattered:

"Thank you, brother."

It was clear that the halfling was pleased by the "brother" address; Ezio chuckled and patted him hard on the back.

"No problem, no problem, we're brothers."

Captain Targen's voice came from deep within the cave, interrupting the group's chatter:

"There's another one here."

Following the sound, and going around a protruding rock wall, they found a secluded mine shaft hidden behind it.

The walls were rough, and the ground was piled with dry grass and rags, which was obviously where the chief rested on weekdays.

In the shadows of a corner, curled up, lay a body covered in dust.

"He's been dead for years," Captain Targen crouched down to examine him. "His equipment is in such bad shape it's unrecognizable."

Beside the remains lay a badly rusted short spear, now only a broken spearhead covered in dust.

Xia Lin glanced at it and suddenly realized: the staff that was embedded in the lower part of the earth spirit bone staff probably came from this unfortunate adventurer.

He voiced his guess, then picked up the rusty spearhead:

"I'll keep this too; it might come in handy. It'll cover my share of the mission rewards."

The others glanced at it—rough, rusty, and utterly uncrafted—and nodded in agreement with little interest.

After a careful search, the group found three dull-colored gems and an old money bag containing six gold coins in the goblin's "private suite".

This must be the "legacy" left behind by the adventurer in front of us.

"Tsk, a poor adventurer." Ezio weighed his money pouch in his hand and commented.

Xia Lin's ears felt slightly hot as she couldn't help but think of her meager possessions.

Captain Targen stood up and dusted off his hands:

"Since you took it from them, you should at least find a place to bury them. After all, we were colleagues."

Ezio and Charlin went outside the cave to find a place to dig a pit.

Feeling bad about taking so much food and drinks, Xia Lin specially chose a gentle slope with the mountain behind and the forest in front for the adventurer:

"Let's keep this place; the feng shui is good."

"Feng shui?" Ezio raised an eyebrow, leaning on his shovel.

"It's a custom in my hometown," Xia Lin explained, "that choosing a good location will bring good fortune in the next life."
