My cousin is becoming a legend.
Chapter 5 Rejected
The Wilson family was unusually happy that Lynn had become a superhuman.
After finishing breakfast, Lynn mounted the old horse his uncle used for hauling goods and left home under the watchful eyes of everyone.
I haven't felt this valued at home in a long time.
"drive!"
Waving a whip.
Lynn stepped into the stirrups and accelerated.
The shaking from the horse's gallop did not cause him to lose his balance; he remained steady.
His years of experience as a mercenary and merchant made him an expert in horsemanship.
The reason he's still alive today, besides being meticulous and vigilant, is because he's fast and a good horseman.
Horses galloped along the dirt roads in the wild.
His riding skills continued to improve.
It was morning when we set off.
By the time Lynn arrived in Nareel, the sun was almost at its highest point.
As a small border town, Nareel doesn't have a large flow of people, but today the gatekeepers were very strict.
Lynn gave them some money before they were able to enter the city.
Baron Narell owns two castles.
It's located within the city, and the baron always stays here.
The other one was built on the border, but it couldn't compare to the one in the city in terms of grandeur.
The Narell family is not only wealthy, but also a family with a long history.
Long before the Uma invaded the Iporto Peninsula and before the Kingdom of Siernus retreated to the north, the Nareel family was the lord of this area.
It has been more than four hundred years since then.
The Narell family is very intelligent.
Seeing that the Kingdom of Sirnus was doomed, they quickly converted to the Nansha religion of the Uma people and became spiritual Uma people.
During the two centuries that the Uma people occupied the Iporto Peninsula, the Nareel family, taking advantage of their advantageous geographical location, played both sides, sometimes siding with the Uma nobles and sometimes with the Sylnus nobles in the north, and profited immensely from both sides.
So much so that Baron Narell now has two names.
One is a traditional Iportuan name, Brown Nareel.
The other is a Uma name, Adil Nareel.
However, none of this history has anything to do with Lynn.
He is a Chinese person at heart.
Whether the Iportu Peninsula belonged to the Uma or the Iportu people was irrelevant to him.
So much so that he carried two holy books in his pocket when he was traveling as a merchant.
When he met the Uma people, he took out the Sacred Book of the South China Sea.
When he met the Sinus, he took out the Holy Book of Light.
When Lynn encountered someone from Iportu whose stance was unclear, he would tell them some dirty jokes.
Interestingly, both the Uma and Iportu people enjoy telling dirty jokes.
Lynn tied his horse to the post station near the city gate and officially entered the city.
After passing through the city market, Lynn soon arrived at the foot of the castle.
Lynn straightened his clothes and walked toward the guards at the castle gate.
"Hello, please inform the esteemed Baron Nareel that I am a superhuman and request to see Your Excellency."
The guards at the gate had been resting motionless against the gate.
After hearing Lynn say that he was a superhuman, he finally opened his eyes and looked Lynn up and down.
"What level of superhuman are you?"
"First-order zero stars".
"Go back. Nobody below three stars is allowed in."
The guard yawned, his eyes slightly narrowed, looking as if he hadn't woken up properly, and he didn't take Lynn seriously at all.
Lynn smiled and handed over a few copper coins.
"My lord, I have come to pledge my allegiance to the esteemed Lord Nareel and become his knight. We may become colleagues in the future, so please be accommodating."
The guard's expression softened considerably as he reached out to take the money.
But when he saw that it was just a few copper coins, he pursed his lips.
"Come back in two weeks."
The guard put the money in his pocket and then closed his eyes and pretended to be dead.
Lynn involuntarily clenched his fists.
"My lord, I have urgent business with the Baron. I hope you will grant me entry, considering my extraordinary abilities. I will reward you handsomely upon completion of this matter."
The guard, with his eyes closed, leaned against the wall and muttered impatiently, "No means no, stop talking nonsense."
"Sir, look..."
Lynn wanted to hand over the last bit of money he had left.
Unexpectedly, he was rudely shoved backward by the guards the next moment.
The guard raised his spear and aimed it directly at Lynn.
He snapped angrily, "Back off! Can't you understand human language?! I already told you to come back in half a month! You're just a nobody among the superhumans, are you in such a hurry to go sleep with lice and mosquitoes in the wild?!"
Lynn's face turned ashen, but he didn't lash out.
Irrational anger will only ruin everything.
If the guard wanted to continue soliciting bribes, he wouldn't have reacted this way.
It seems they really aren't letting us in.
Lynn gave the guard a cold look, squatted down, and silently picked up the copper coins that the guard had knocked over.
He felt somewhat heavy-hearted.
If he cannot become a knight in time, his sister's engagement will fall through.
How was he going to explain this to his eagerly awaiting uncle, aunt, and sister that night...?
He should think of a solution.
Just as Lynn was about to leave, a strong voice came from inside the door.
"What happened? What's going on here?"
The newcomer was a man of about thirty years old, wearing heavy plate armor.
The armor was well-maintained and gleamed in the sunlight.
Upon seeing the man, the guard immediately stood up straight and bowed with one hand on his chest.
"Lord Lucas, a commoner wishing to see the Baron has been expelled by me according to regulations!"
Lynn quickly stood up and corrected him, "What this gentleman said is not accurate. I am a superhuman and wish to pledge allegiance to the Baron."
The guard looked somewhat uneasy and said in a low voice, "Lord Lucas, according to the Baron's regulations, those below the three-star level are not allowed to enter the castle without an appointment these days."
"But you didn't tell him he needed to make an appointment, did you?" Lucas frowned.
"I told him I'd be there in two weeks..."
Lucas snorted coldly: "Czech, even if you are a relative of the Baron, you cannot disrespect those who are extraordinary. I will settle accounts with you later."
The guard's face turned ashen, and he glared at Lynn resentfully.
Lucas turned to look at Lynn.
"I am Lucas Doref, captain of the knights of Nareel's territory. May I ask your honorable name?"
Lynn bowed and said, "Lynn Wilson, sir."
Lucas nodded.
"Lord Lynn, I'm sorry, the Baron is very busy with official duties and is indeed unavailable to receive guests at the moment. However, I can help you with the registration. Of course, you'll have to demonstrate your extraordinary abilities to me."
Lynn understood and immediately used the Shadow Man.
His body instantly became semi-transparent.
However, he was still somewhat conspicuous under the direct sunlight.
So Lynn walked into the shadows to the side. Although he still had a physical form, he was invisible unless you looked closely.
"If it's nighttime, it will completely disappear," Lynn said.
Lucas clapped in surprise and exclaimed, "A very rare ability, Lynn! Is this a gift from God?"
Lynn hesitated upon hearing this.
The god Lucas spoke of was the Uma people's god of the South Sands.
The Kingdom of Uma regularly examines children aged 15 to 18, a process known as a trial.
Those who pass the trial can choose to receive a potion called the Blood of God from the church.
Drinking it will give you a small chance of gaining so-called divinely bestowed abilities, that is, extraordinary abilities.
Lynn did not participate in the trial back then.
First, he doesn't want to be religious.
Secondly, the process was extremely bizarre.
Lynn, being a modern person, immediately sensed something was wrong.
The church, the blood of God, trials.
I'm about to have a PTSD attack.
If there are no problems, Lynn will go directly to Redstone.
Moreover, this is completely different from the traditional beliefs of the people of Iporto.
The people of Iportu in the Kingdom of Uma once believed in the Church of Light and the Church of Truth.
The former is a church that believes in the God of Light, while the latter is a society similar to a modern university.
Both states that the only condition for awakening extraordinary abilities is experiencing life and death.
Compared to them, the Nansha Cult's high awakening rate is definitely problematic.
But this is, after all, the current state religion.
If you, a native of Iportu, dare to say there's a problem with it, you're dead meat.
Therefore, Lucas's problem is actually somewhat dangerous.
His next question would likely be: "You've now proven you have the potential to awaken your abilities, so why didn't you participate in the trial back then? Did you have some kind of grievance against the Nansha Cult?"
Lynn had seen Iportu superhumans being blackmailed in this way before.
Lucas seemed to have noticed Lynn's concerns.
He smiled and explained, "It seems you awakened your ability on your own. Don't worry, I didn't mean anything by it."
Lynn breathed a sigh of relief.
If they were to actually label him as someone who doesn't believe in the Nansha religion, he would be finished.
Lucas came out of the door.
He waved his hand, shooing the guards at the door aside.
He squinted and lowered his voice: "Lynn, I can inform the Baron in advance that you can become a knight in half a month, but I need your help."
"Help?" Lynn was taken aback.
Lucas said slowly, "Don't rush to refuse. It's not difficult for you. And I'll give you appropriate compensation after it's done."
Although Lynn was somewhat puzzled, he nodded first.
"If it's within my capabilities, I'd be happy to help you, but I'd like to know exactly what I can do for you?"
Lucas smiled upon hearing this and turned to point to the restaurant in the distance.
"It's not convenient to talk here, why don't we eat and talk?"
