Reborn Fairy Wife Takes Me on a Gaggle-Fire rampage
Chapter 68 Family Team Building
Soon, she entered the road leading to her estate. The estate was situated in a lush, green countryside, surrounded by verdant trees and vibrant gardens. Her heart grew warmer as she drew closer to home. She imagined the little black cat seeing her, its round eyes sparkling with curiosity and joy, gently touching her ankle with its soft paws, as if to say, "You're finally back."
Wen Shu parked the car, got out, and took a deep breath of the fresh air in the manor. She walked through the garden towards her warm home. As soon as the door opened, she eagerly called out Xiao Hei's name. As expected, the little black cat quickly darted out from some corner, lightly leaping into her arms and rubbing its warm little body against her cheek. Wen Shu smiled; she knew that no matter how noisy the outside world was, as long as she returned to this loving and warm home, all her troubles would disappear.
As Wen Shu entered the living room and gently placed her bag on the sofa, her phone rang. She glanced at the unfamiliar number on the screen, a flicker of hesitation crossing her mind.
However, curiosity compelled her to answer the call. There was silence on the other end; no one spoke, only the faint sound of breathing. Wen Shu felt somewhat bewildered and hung up. But not long after, the number rang again, and Wen Shu answered impatiently, "Hello? What's up?"
Finally, a voice came from the other end of the phone. It was Wen Chu; they hadn't been in touch for a long time. Wen Chu's voice sounded trembling, seemingly filled with unease and guilt. "Wen Shu, I'm sorry for everything I did before. I'm so sorry. It was my jealousy that hurt you. I was encouraged by my father to do many things I shouldn't have. If you hadn't saved me, I might not be here now. Wen Shu, I'm so sorry," Wen Chu said remorsefully, her words filled with regret and apology.
A complex mix of emotions welled up in Wen Shu's heart. Her eyes gleamed with an indescribable light, like the undercurrents surging in a deep ocean, filled with unfathomable depth. Her voice trembled slightly, but more so with determination and resolve: "But I'm not a saint, I can't forgive you." Her voice echoed in the empty room, each word like a heavy hammer blow, striking her own heart and the other's.
She continued, "What would have happened to me if Mu Chen hadn't come last time?" Her thoughts drifted back to that harrowing night, when she faced danger alone, overwhelmed by fear and helplessness. She knew that if Mu Chen hadn't arrived in time, she might have met with certain death—a consequence she couldn't imagine and didn't want to contemplate.
"We both know the truth, so why pretend?" Wen Shu's eyes had lost their usual gentleness, replaced by a cold light. Her words revealed a deep disappointment and helplessness.
"Don't you think so?" Her last question seemed to be directed at the other person, yet also at herself. Her heart was filled with doubt and confusion; she didn't know whether she should stick to her principles or give the other person a chance. She knew this decision would change their relationship and might even affect her future. Wen Shu's words echoed in the air.
Wen Chu smiled coldly, a hint of helplessness and bitterness in her eyes. She slowly began to speak: "You may not know, but the person who was truly hurt in that incident was actually me. I brought it upon myself and ultimately received my retribution. Today, Attorney Xiang specifically spoke with me. She told me that if I decide to appeal, she will do everything in her power to help me fight for my freedom." Her voice trembled slightly, as if she was suppressing the deep pain in her heart.
She continued, "Do you know? The fifty million you gave your father wasn't used properly. He's addicted to gambling, unable to extricate himself, and even misappropriated twenty million of it to gamble. The temptation of gambling has dragged him deeper and deeper, and now he's gambled away almost all of the family's assets. The little bit of wealth left in the family is now being maintained by me with my body and my dignity." A trace of grief and indignation flashed across her face, but she quickly regained her composure.
“However, all of this will be in the past.” A resolute glint flashed in Wen Chu’s eyes. “I will never let my life be shrouded in such shadows again. I will bravely face all of this and end this unbearable past. I need to regain my freedom and find the strong and independent self I once was.” Her voice was weak, but full of determination and hope.
"Good luck!" Wen Shu ended the call. She felt a strange sadness in her heart.
Aunt Hu returned from grocery shopping, carrying bags full of groceries. Wen Shu, watching her busy figure, couldn't help but ask curiously, "Aunt Hu, you bought so much stuff! Are we having a big meal tonight?"
As Aunt Hu walked, she answered with a hint of pride on her face: "My husband specifically instructed us today that we're having hot pot and barbecue tonight, a family gathering and celebration."
Upon hearing this, Wen Shu's eyes widened in surprise: "A dinner party?" Aunt Hu explained with a smile: "Yes, our manor organizes a dinner party every two or three months. There are no outsiders, just people from our manor. Everyone gets together, just like a company team building activity."
Aunt Hu continued, "For this gathering, we prepared all sorts of ingredients, including fresh vegetables, various meats such as beef, lamb, and pork, and even seafood. The hot pot broth was also carefully selected, with spicy, clear broth, and mushroom broth options to satisfy different tastes." Wen Shu's mouth was practically watering as she listened to Aunt Hu's description.
"For the barbecue, we've prepared grills and charcoal, as well as various seasonings such as cumin, chili powder, and honey, so everyone can grill their favorite foods themselves," Aunt Hu continued. "In addition, we've also prepared some games and activities so that everyone can enjoy the food while also strengthening their bonds."
"A dinner party is more than just a meal," Aunt Hu concluded. "It's a manifestation of family and team spirit. Through such activities, we can communicate and exchange ideas better, allowing everyone in the manor to feel the warmth of home and the strength of the team." Wen Shu listened to Aunt Hu's words, her heart filled with anticipation. She knew it would be a warm and joyful evening.
