Crossing Over to Yamada Love

Chapter 45 Wang's Mindset

"Grandma, can you tell me why you can accept me?" Mo Lan asked this question after the two had been chatting for a while.

"Grandma thought about it for a long time. Then I thought, your grandfather and I were originally two strangers, but we lived together for a lifetime, had children, and became the closest of people. But your grandfather and your second grandfather are blood relatives, and Changsheng, Zhu, and Ju are all descendants of the Mo family, with the same bloodline as you. But are they close to us? No, I've always thought that family members not only need to share the same bloodline, but also need to have the same heart. Now you have both blood and that heart, so why can't I accept you?" Wang looked at Mo Lan and earnestly expressed her thoughts.

"Grandma, so you must be from a prominent family, right?" Mo Lan asked Wang Shi with sparkling eyes. From today's conversation, she was even more certain that Wang Shi came from a distinguished family. Otherwise, how could she have such insight? An ordinary old lady would probably be terrified and would have already asked a shaman to cleanse her. But she thought so clearly.

Upon hearing Mo Lan's question, Wang's eyes deepened, as if she were recalling the past.

"Let's not talk about my past anymore; so many years have passed. It won't do you any good to know." Wang was clearly unwilling to discuss her origins.

"Oh, I won't ask anymore. I'll tell Lanlan whenever Grandma wants to talk about it." Mo Lan smiled knowingly at Madam Wang.

"You little devil." Madam Wang chuckled and gave Mo Lan a reproachful look, then said seriously to Mo Lan, "I'll keep your affairs to myself. You mustn't tell anyone else, especially your mother. I'm afraid she won't be able to handle it."

"Yes, I know," Mo Lan replied softly. She hadn't really wanted to say it. Even if she knew, there would definitely be a barrier in her heart.

“Grandma, the food at home isn’t good, which is bad for our health. Erlang and Xiaosan also need to go to the private school. I have some ideas that can make money, but I’m afraid people will suspect something. What will I do then?” Mo Lan asked Wang Shi, thinking that it was good that her identity had been discovered. In the future, she could discuss things with her grandmother and wouldn’t have to fight alone.

"Don't do too much right now. If there's anything you want to change, tell me first, and we'll do it together. If anyone doubts you, just blame it on me and say that I taught them. I doubt they'll dare to say anything!" Wang gave Mo Lan her answer.

"Grandma, how did you become so powerful? I remember you weren't like this before." Mo Lan asked, voicing her curiosity as she looked at Wang Shi, whose demeanor had suddenly changed.

Madam Wang blinked, sighed, and said, "So, for your grandfather's sake, I've been tolerating the second branch of the family. Firstly, I hoped your grandfather would have his brothers by his side in his old age, and secondly, I hoped your father and eldest uncle could help each other in the village so they wouldn't be bullied. Do you know why your second grandfather didn't agree to divide the family property? It's true that your second grandfather was a decent person, but he also wanted your third uncle to have your father's help in the village after he passed away. Otherwise, with your third uncle's gambling addiction and lazy attitude, it's no wonder he won't have a good life!"

Madam Wang was also very dissatisfied with Mo Changsheng and the women of his second wife. After a pause, she continued, "I can tolerate them not having money, I can tolerate them not doing anything, I can tolerate them saying a few words or cursing at other times. But the day you were injured, they truly broke my heart. They cursed my son, daughter-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter. How could I tolerate that! Most importantly, they harmed my granddaughter. What's the point of showing them any respect? I really wanted to beat them up and kick them out of this house!"

Wang's words and expression startled Mo Lan. This old lady was so violent inside! It was a wonder she was always so kind and gentle. So this was how she truly loathed the second wife's family. No wonder she'd been talking about Feng and Cui these past few days. It seemed that after suspecting her, she felt her own granddaughter had been harmed by the second wife's family; no wonder she couldn't be kind to them. But Grandma was truly tolerant.

"Why not just separate the family? Why keep putting up with them?" Mo Lan asked, puzzled.

"The family must be divided, but not now. Your grandfather and second grandfather will never agree. I'm waiting, waiting for the right opportunity. When the time comes, I will definitely divide the family!" Wang's expression was resolute, even somewhat sinister. It seemed she had endured far too much.

"Grandma, I support you. We will definitely wait for this opportunity." Mo Lan held Wang Shi's hand tightly, comforting her.

"Oh, right, Lan'er, can that method of using goose eggs and dandelions really cure your uncle's illness?" Madam Wang asked her granddaughter hopefully, her eldest son's illness was also a worry for her.

"Yes, this is a folk remedy from my time. If you follow my instructions, it should cure Uncle. But Uncle can't go to bed on an empty stomach in the morning, and he can't eat cold or fried food, and he absolutely can't drink alcohol." Mo Lan nodded, explaining the taboos to Uncle.

"Good child, Grandma will remember and will tell your aunt. Thank you." Mo Lan hugged Mo Lan and thanked her.

"Mother, what are you and Lanlan doing here? I looked all over before I found you." It was Qiu Shi who came over. Looking at the old woman and the young woman, her eyes were red, and she looked completely puzzled. Had something happened to Lanlan?

"I just wanted to ask Lanlan about that prescription in detail, but then I thought of my eldest son, and the tears just wouldn't stop falling. It made Lanlan feel sad too. Sigh... I'm really getting old," Wang explained to her daughter-in-law.

“Where is your mother? Your mother is worried about your eldest brother. It’s all because of this girl, why doesn’t she persuade your grandmother?” Qiu scolded Mo Lan.

Mo Lan smiled knowingly. That's how parents in the countryside are; they don't praise their own children, but if others do, they have to be humble and even point out the child's shortcomings. Actually, she was secretly overjoyed.

"I know, Mother. I'll definitely try to comfort Grandma from now on and stop her from crying." Mo Lan gave Qiu a playful smile.

"You silly girl." Qiu pointed at Mo Lan's forehead, her eyes full of laughter.

"Father and the others are back from the fields, and the meal is ready. Let's go eat," Qiu said, helping her mother-in-law up.

"Okay. Let's go eat. Thank you for your hard work."

"What are you saying, Mother? Aren't these things a daughter-in-law should do?"

Mo Lan listened to the conversation between her mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, smiled, and followed behind. She looked up at the sky; the clouds were white, the wind was gentle, and the weather was clear. How wonderful! Her mood was as light and cheerful as the weather!

Mo Lan followed Wang Shi onto the kang (heated brick bed), where dishes and rice were already laid out on the table. There was a plate of potatoes, a plate of stir-fried chives, a plate of pickled vegetables, a large plate of dandelion greens, and a bowl of homemade sauce. The rice was sorghum rice. There was also a bowl of clear soup.

Mo Lan smiled, recalling the food she had bought last time. Aside from what she had saved for her uncle, the rest was long gone. Mo Lan didn't mind; anyway, if the food wasn't good, the second branch of the family would keep her company.

"Sister-in-law, you've been feeding us potatoes every day, and today you've brought out a pot of dandelions. Can't you spare some money to buy everyone some meat to nourish them?" Madam Feng said, her brow furrowed as she held up a bowl of sorghum rice.

"Alright. If you want something good, give me the money." Madam Wang replied calmly, extending her hand to Madam Feng.

"Ha, Auntie, you must be joking. You're the one running this household, why are you asking us for money!" Cui laughed exaggeratedly, speaking up for her mother-in-law.

Wang gave her a cold glance and said, "If you don't have money, don't complain about the food. I'm not a magician! I can't conjure up money."

Mrs. Feng pursed her lips and muttered, "All they do is complain about being poor all the time. They feed us this, but they feed their own son millet and wheat flour every day. Don't they feel guilty?"

Liu's face turned deathly pale instantly. She knew that Feng was referring to her doctor. These past few days, Mo Changhai had been eating with the men. His meals were separate; he ate millet porridge for breakfast and dinner, and noodles or steamed buns for lunch. No one else was allowed to eat these things. Now that her aunt had said this, Liu felt extremely ashamed.
