Crossing Over to Yamada Love
Chapter 46 Young Liu Hu
"This old woman doesn't feel guilty, and neither does my daughter-in-law. As for other old women, it's none of my business. Everyone, let's eat. Those who don't want to eat can go back to their rooms and rest!" Wang didn't even glance at Feng, picked up her chopsticks, took a piece of dandelion, dipped it in soybean paste, and put it in her mouth.
Upon seeing this, the members of the eldest branch of the family also happily picked up their chopsticks and began to eat.
"Your heart is completely twisted. You treat us second wives like cattle. You don't even feed us. I've never seen such a heartless person!" Madam Feng muttered angrily.
"Eldest daughter, your second aunt says she doesn't want to eat anymore. Could you help her clear the bowl away?" Wang Shi chewed a bite of food and called out to Liu Shi.
"Mother," Liu hesitated upon hearing her mother-in-law's words. She was a junior; how could she possibly take away her elder's share?
"Grandma, how about I help Second Aunt clear the bowls? Auntie is tired, let her rest for a while." Mo Lan smiled at Wang Shi, then got up to take the rice bowl from Feng Shi's hands.
"What are you doing, girl? You even dare to snatch your elders' bowls. Who taught you that? Don't you have any manners?" Madam Feng glared at her and moved her arm aside to avoid Mo Lan's hand.
"Didn't you say you weren't going to feed you? I thought you didn't want to eat. Lan'er was trying to help you. You don't appreciate it, fine. Why call her? If you want to eat, then eat properly. Otherwise, I'll just do it myself!" Wang Shi put some food on Xiao San'er's plate, speaking casually. But her tone carried a chilling undercurrent.
Madam Feng muttered something under her breath and went to pick up some food to eat. Madam Cui opened her mouth, but immediately caught the unintentional glance from Madam Wang. She quickly lowered her head and ate.
"I must say, dandelion is quite delicious when dipped in sauce like this; it has a refreshing aroma. I used to mix it with sorghum flour and make vegetable dumplings, but they were bland. It's much better to eat it raw like this," Wang Shi commented, smiling at Mo Lan as a form of praise.
"Little San'er thinks it's delicious too. Next time, Little San'er will come with me to dig for vegetables." The little guy swallowed the dandelion with all his might while looking at Mo Lan with bright eyes, looking forward to going with his sister next time.
"Okay, next time, not too long, I'll take Xiao San'er with me." Mo Lan smiled and patted his head.
"Yes, yes, little San'er, help your sister carry the basket." He heard his sister's answer and his little face lit up with excitement. He nodded vigorously.
"You talk so much even when we're just eating. And you're still digging for food. You feed us this every day, your face is turning blue." Madam Feng was dissatisfied, but she didn't want to argue with Madam Wang, so she changed the subject and talked about the children.
Everyone ignored her, eating their own meals and talking as if she were invisible.
After resting for a while, the men went to the fields. It was almost time to plant rice, and there were many things to prepare in the fields. Erlang went to learn to read with his uncle. Wang changed her clothes and prepared to go to Liu Dacheng's house in the same village to exchange goose eggs.
"Grandma, please take me with you." Mo Lan patted herself clean and pleaded with Wang Shi.
"You can't sit still, girl. Let's go. But don't say anything out of line when we get to someone else's house," Wang said, slinging her basket over her shoulder and instructing Molan.
"Okay, I understand." Mo Lan replied happily, then took Wang Shi's hand and went out the door with her.
There were many people walking back and forth on the village road; some were going to the fields, and others were probably visiting neighbors. Wang greeted them all with a smile and led Mo Lan to the front of a house.
The courtyard was surrounded by red brick walls and a large, red-painted wooden gate, one closed and the other open. Mo Lan looked up and saw that the courtyard was made of land, but it was kept clean. Behind the courtyard stood a house built of bricks and tiles. The conditions seemed quite good.
Wang led Mo Lan into the courtyard. She knew that in the village, most families kept their gates open during the day for easy access. They only locked the gates at night.
Wang called out, "Who's home? Is Dacheng's family here?"
Mo Lan was surveying the place. The courtyard was large, and besides the main house, there were east and west wing rooms. All the buildings were made of red bricks and blue tiles, giving them a bright and imposing appearance. Mo Lan flipped through the original owner's memories; the male head of the household seemed to be named Liu Dacheng, in his forties. His parents were deceased, leaving behind three brothers. Two of them ran businesses in town, while he himself lived there. The family raised many poultry and owned a considerable amount of land. He and his wife had three sons and a daughter. The two eldest were already married and working in town, and their daughter was also married. Now, only one son remained, who seemed to be quite young.
"Who is it?" A young man walked out from the side room with a voice.
He was about 13 or 14 years old, around 1.65 meters tall, with long eyebrows, large, clear eyes, a high nose, light pink lips, and normal yellow skin. His smile added a vibrant touch to his whole being—what a sunny and handsome young man!
Mo Lan gave a thumbs-up, surprised that there were so many handsome men in this small village. It seemed that not only were the men in her own family good-looking, but other people's men were too. She had just met Cheng Xiao that morning; he was humble and gentle, with a scholarly air, yet also handsome and lively. This man in front of her was much more sunny and approachable. He had a kind of older brother-next-door feel to him.
"Who are you?" The boy looked at the old man and the young man in front of him with a puzzled expression. They looked somewhat familiar, but because he did not often interact with the people in the village, he was not very familiar with them and could not recall their names.
"My name is Mo Lan, my father's name is Mo Changhe, this is my grandmother, we are looking for Aunt Liu. Is she here? And who is this young man?" Mo Lan clearly stated her and Wang's identities.
"Oh, Grandma Mo, hello. Sister Mo Lan, hello." The boy hurriedly nodded and greeted her. Then he added, "My name is Liu Hu. My mother went to Third Grandma's house, but she should be back soon. Please come in and sit down."
"No, we'll wait for your mother here. We're sorry to bother you," Wang said with a smile, declining Liu Hu's offer. Since the lady of the house wasn't home, they felt it inappropriate to enter.
"This..." Liu Hu hesitated for a moment, then led the two to a stool under the eaves, where his mother usually chatted with people. Stools, a small table, a kettle, and cups were all provided.
"Please sit down, I'll go make you some tea." Liu Hu said, picking up the teapot to make tea.
"Don't bother, we had tea at home before coming. Don't worry about us," Wang hurriedly called out to him. Tea was a precious commodity here. If this child served it to them today, she wondered if his parents would complain when they returned.
"Well, Grandma Mo, let me get you some food." Liu Hu's face was a little red; he had no experience in entertaining guests. His mother usually did these things. Now, suddenly being asked to serve two female guests, he really didn't know what to do.
"Oh dear, don't bother. Besides, my grandma's surname isn't Mo." Mo Lan looked at the somewhat bewildered boy in front of her with amusement.
"Huh?" Liu Hu exclaimed. Yes. This little girl's surname is Mo, but her grandmother's surname shouldn't be Mo. He just didn't know the old lady's surname and casually called her Grandma Mo. Now that she said it, he felt really embarrassed.
Liu Hu blushed and looked at Wang Shi and Mo Lan, wondering if they were laughing at him. He saw Wang Shi smiling kindly, looking very approachable, while the little girl named Mo Lan was also smiling at him, her bright, star-like eyes blinking as she looked at him. Her delicate nose and playful upturned lips only made her look cute, but there was absolutely no hint of mockery.
For a moment, Liu Hu was stunned by those expressive eyes. He completely forgot his original intention. He stared blankly into those eyes, which seemed to see right into his heart.
