The Walking Dead: I Sell Arms as a Sixth-Rate Seller in the Apocalypse

Chapter 24 The Disappearance of the Abusive Husband and Daryl's New Crossbow

夜晚

On the road outside the abandoned quarry camp

A man carrying someone on his back walked toward the largest tree on the outskirts of the road.

This person is Daryl Dixon, who is having an affair with her abusive husband, Edward.

Daryl remembered that Rick had told him to tie Ed to the biggest tree, stuff his mouth with Ed's own smelly sock, and do nothing else.

If Rick hadn't told Daryl not to do anything, Daryl would have whipped Ed, who was tied to a tree and drunk, into a stew.

Daryl returned to camp after doing all this.

five minutes later

In the quiet night, Rick stood alone at the machine gun position of the tactical MTVR, looking down at the dozens of tents below and sighing, "Life is so unpredictable~ like intestines wrapped around small intestines."

Having finished speaking

A lithe figure climbed onto the roof of the car.

Rick then continued, "So? Is everything done?"

The person who climbed onto the roof was Daryl, who had returned. Hearing Rick's words, Daryl plopped down on the edge of the roof, lit a cigarette, took a puff, and said, "Hiss~ Whew! Done. That fat pig was really heavy. If it weren't for the blue coffee candy you gave me, I wouldn't have been able to move him at all."

Hearing Daryl's words, Rick agreed, saying, "Not just you, if it were me, I wouldn't be able to move that stupid pig without eating that blue coffee candy."

Hearing Rick's words, Daryl chuckled and then joked, "I never thought there were things our boss Rick couldn't do."

Hearing Daryl's teasing, Rick pretended to be angry and said, "Since you know I'm your boss, how dare you joke with me? Looks like you don't want this reward..."

Before he could finish speaking, Daryl stood up and grabbed Rick, saying, "Wait! Boss, you can't go back on your word. I was just joking, don't be angry. You can't forget what you promised!"

Seeing Daryl's reaction, Rick rolled his eyes at him with disdain and said, "Fine, if you dare to tease me again, I'll see if I deduct your reward."

Having finished speaking

Rick pulled a bottle of blue coffee candy he had just redeemed from the system space from his pocket and tossed it to Daryl.

Seeing this, Daryl caught the coffee candy bottle, looked at it, and then stuffed it into his pocket like a treasure, saying, "Thanks, boss, we'll do it again next time!"

After saying that, he jumped off the roof of the car and ran towards his tent.

Looking at Daryl in front of him, Rick smiled helplessly. Daryl's personality was quite different from the one in the original series. Was it because he had traveled through time and changed too many things?

Thinking about all this, Rick shook his head and ignored it. He opened the system store and started choosing equipment for Daryl. In Rick's eyes, Daryl's role was that of a veteran hunter or a ghost sniper, so a good sniper rifle would be suitable for him.

However, considering that he preferred a crossbow to a gun, Rick decided to get him a weapon like Beowulf's, also an underbarrel crossbow. But the thought of spending 700 points to get that gun made Rick feel a pang of regret. With that in mind, Rick inquired with the system.

Rick: "System, system, is there any similar item that can make an identical weapon?"

[Ding! Yes, host. This is called a weapon duplication card. It can duplicate any weapon from the weapon selection box.]

Rick: "What? Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?"

[Ding! Host, you didn't even ask (laughs).]

Rick thought for a moment and said, "That seems to be the case, but could you first explain how to obtain this card?"

[Ding! Host only needs to complete one task.]

Rick: "System, system, what is the mission? Tell me quickly!"

[Ding! Host's intention detected. System task issued: "Please kill 100 zombies during tomorrow night's zombie horde attack. Advanced task: Please eliminate all zombies before dawn.]

[Single-player mission reward: Weapon duplication card unlocked and redeemable in the shop. Advanced mission reward: Tactical crossbow multi-functional bolt system unlocked and redeemable in the shop.]

Rick only remembered when he saw the system's mission that his tactical crossbow's multi-purpose bolts were still locked. After he got firearms, he hardly ever used the crossbow anymore.

Thinking of this, Rick continued to ask the system, "System, system, can the Tactical Crossbow Multi-Function Bolts rewarded from this advanced mission be used on my Beowulf underbarrel crossbow?"

[Ding! Answering the host, yes, once unlocked, both the tactical crossbow and the underbarrel crossbow can be used.]

With that thought, Rick closed the system with satisfaction. This task could be done together with the previous advanced task. It was just killing zombies, after all. His camp was now clearly taking shape, and dealing with a horde of over a hundred zombies shouldn't be a problem.

Even if you encounter danger, you can take out your Beowulf and start shooting. How could a zombie withstand the fire of a .50 Beowulf bullet?

Rick then materialized Beowulf and rubbed it in his hand. Looking at the handsome and invincible Beowulf in his hand, Rick was troubled. Rick had only used the underbarrel crossbow in the mall and had never fired the Beowulf ammunition, his main weapon. The reason was that the ammunition was relatively expensive. A box of 100 .50 Beowulf rounds cost 3 points, and the sound of the Beowulf firing was very loud, comparable to a Barrett. If it attracted the zombie hordes from other places, it would really be a loss.

Thinking of this, Rick sighed helplessly and put Beowulf back into the system space.

The next morning

Rick yawned as he watched the women gradually getting up and busy washing up, so he went to the river to wash his face as well.

Just then, Carol rushed out in a panic, asking everyone she met, "Have you seen Ed?"

Upon hearing this, everyone shook their heads. Several women who were close to Carol said to her, "I heard last night that Ed, Ethan, and Jack were the last to leave the campfire."

Carol: "But Ed didn't come back. I waited for him in the tent all night, and even after Sophia fell asleep, Ed still didn't come back."

At this moment, Jacqueline also came to the river to wash up. When she heard Carol's words, she said to Carol, "I went to bed late last night. When I returned to the tent, I heard Ethan and Jack talking about Ed. I heard Ethan and Jack planning to ask Rick to help you solve Ed's problem today."

Hearing Jacques's words, Carol understood some things. She knew Ed, that he often drank and chatted with Jack and Ethan outside, and that Jack and Ethan had repeatedly advised Ed not to abuse her and Sophia. For this, she often treated them to food as a token of her gratitude. However, whenever Ed saw her bringing food to Jack and Ethan, he would call her over and then beat her. Sophia was there, and she had to take the beating with her. Thinking of this, Carol's eyes filled with anger. When she heard that Ed had disappeared, she wished he would never come back, so that she and Sophia wouldn't have to endure Ed's domestic violence anymore. But now that Ed was gone, she felt that she and Sophia would be bullied by others.

Thinking about this, Carol felt conflicted. He wanted Ed, that beastly scum, to disappear forever, but he also didn't want Ed to disappear, because then someone would bully him and Sophia.

With that in mind, Carol decided to wait another day and see how things went. If Ed returned, she would ask Rick to act as an arbitrator to arbitrate her divorce from Ed.

If Ed really had disappeared and hadn't returned, then Carol decided to take Sophia and seek refuge with Rick. After all, under Rick's protection, no one in the camp would dare to go against him. Everyone still vividly remembered the scene yesterday when Rick knocked Sean unconscious. Now that things had come to this, Carol stopped overthinking and returned to her tent with the toiletries in her hand.

Rick witnessed all of this and decided that if Carol asked him about Ed's disappearance, he would tell her the truth; if Carol didn't ask, he would keep the secret to himself.

After washing his face, Rick arrived at the Dixon brothers' tent. He heard snoring coming from inside, assuming Daryl was exhausted from what he'd done the night before. He was about to leave when Daryl walked in from the other side, carrying his crossbow and two squirrels, looking at Rick with a bewildered expression.

Rick hadn't expected Daryl to go hunting so early, so he said somewhat awkwardly to Daryl, "Daryl, I didn't expect you to be up so early."

Daryl then said to Rick with a dismissive look, "Since I came here, I've gotten into the habit of going out hunting in the morning. After all, many prey come out to forage at this time of day, so I can catch a few to have for breakfast."

As he spoke, Daryl held up the two squirrels he had shot at Rick.

Rick didn't pay any attention to Daryl's two squirrels, but pointed at Daryl's crossbow and said, "Daryl, let me see your crossbow."

Upon hearing this, Daryl handed over his main body and his treasure to Rick without hesitation.

Rick held it in his hand and felt it. With the help of his advanced crossbow skill, Rick recalled the crossbow's various stats. When he compared it with his own tactical crossbow, Rick came to the conclusion that Daryl's crossbow was completely inferior to his own tactical crossbow.

Just then, the system's voice sounded.

[Ding! Detected that the host has acquired the item "Darryl Dixon's Hunting Crossbow". Would you like to record it immediately?]

Upon hearing the system's voice, Rick hurriedly said to the system, "Wait until no one is around before entering the data. System, please exchange a tactical crossbow and a crossbow quiver for me first."

[Ding! Congratulations, host, you have redeemed 1 "Tactical Crossbow" and 1 "Crossbow Quiver," consuming 11 points. The redeemed items have been placed in your system space and can be retrieved at any time.]

Seeing his score decrease by 11 points again, Rick remained unfazed. He currently had 300 points, so a decrease of 11 points was acceptable to him.

Thinking of this, Rick said to Daryl, "I'll take this crossbow. Come with me to a place first."

Upon hearing Rick's words, Daryl's face instantly paled. He realized that his boss was about to covet his most beloved weapon, and a sense of loss immediately washed over him.

Seeing Daryl's listless appearance, Rick took Daryl back to his tactical MTVR. Rick entered the vehicle and, taking advantage of Daryl's inattention, materialized the newly purchased tactical crossbow, a quiver full of 10 steel arrows, and a canister of 500 steel balls.

Looking at Daryl's dejected expression, Rick handed Daryl both his tactical crossbow and Daryl's hunting crossbow, saying, "We Chinese have a saying, 'Out with the old, in with the new.' See, I took your crossbow, and now I'm returning this tactical crossbow to you."

Daryl took the tactical crossbow Rick handed him and his own hunting crossbow, examined them carefully, and then looked at his own crossbow. After comparing them, Daryl found that the tactical crossbow Rick gave him was far superior to his own in terms of workmanship and everything else.

At this point, Daryl looked at Rick with a delighted expression and said, "Boss! Are you sure you want to give me this crossbow?"

Rick nodded and said, "Yes, I prepared this tactical crossbow for you from the beginning. This tactical crossbow is much more powerful than the one you have. When I used it myself, I even did the feat of piercing the heads of three zombies with one bolt and pinning it to the blast-proof roller shutter door."

Upon hearing Rick's words, Daryl examined the tactical crossbow with great care, as if he had received a treasure.

Rick said to Daryl again, "This crossbow can not only shoot steel balls, but also has a variety of multi-functional arrows, such as arrows that can burn, explode, produce smoke, poison, shock, noise, and so on."

Upon hearing Rick's words, Daryl, like a child with a strong sense of curiosity, pestered Rick, saying, "Boss, where is what you're talking about? Give me some, I want to try it out."

Rick glared at Daryl and said, "Look at you now, you're like a child. Don't worry, I'll give you this tomorrow morning. Your task now is to familiarize yourself with and get used to this tactical crossbow, understand?"

Upon hearing Rick's words, Daryl regained his adult demeanor and said, "Okay, boss, I'm going outside to test this tactical crossbow. See you later."

Finished.

Daryl jogged off towards the edge of the camp. Rick waved helplessly at Daryl, then took out a pack of MRE (Made for Resistant) instant rations from his storage space and prepared to solve the breakfast problem.
