I thrived in the primitive tribe

Chapter 3 Picking Fruit

After the meal, the High Priest left some herbs that Luo Xue might need and told Luo Ya some precautions. Then he took Lu Yao to see the chief. After discussing the scope of the harvesting activity with the chief, he led the group of people to the forest.

As Lu Yao walked along, breathing in the fresh air, she thought to herself, "The air quality in this era is really good!" Suddenly, a girl with delicate and charming features approached her from the side.

"You're the one Loya picked up a few days ago? My name is Yalin, what's yours?"

Looking at the rude girl beside her, Lu Yao withdrew her praise for her pretty and charming appearance.

"Yes, hello, my name is Lu Yao. What brings you here?"

"I heard you were in the Hunting Forest before, before you took human form. How did you go to the Hunting Forest alone? Or have you always lived in the Hunting Forest? What about your family...?"

Looking at this person who kept asking questions, Lu Yao felt speechless. This person really had no sense of boundaries. She forced a fake smile and said:

"I don't know why I'm in the Hunting Forest. I was there when I opened my eyes."

"Do you still remember what your tribe was called and where it was located?"

“I have some memory loss, I don’t remember anything from before, and I have no impression of the tribe.”

Lu Yao thought that to avoid anyone asking about her situation again later, she might as well just make things up. Anyway, no one would know if she really had amnesia, and this way she could avoid a lot of trouble. She could just blame amnesia for anything she didn't know.

Yalin was filled with disappointment. She had originally planned to find out Lu Yao's background and find a way to drive her out of the tribe. She didn't like this outsider at all. She felt that Nan Sheng's attention had been drawn to her since she arrived. She slowly walked back to her friends and whispered about the information she had found out.

Lu Yao shook her head helplessly. From the expression on her face, she could tell that Ya Lin didn't like her. For some reason, Ya Lin seemed to be a little hostile towards her. She wondered what the misunderstanding was. She recalled her life these past few days and realized that she hadn't offended anyone. Unable to figure it out, Lu Yao simply stopped thinking about it.

The high shaman leading the way stopped and turned around: "This is our destination. Start looking for food from where you are now. Be careful not to stray too far from the main group. If you want to go far away, you need to find some orcs traveling with you for protection. If you go far away on your own and encounter an accident, no one can save you. Do you understand?"

"We understand," everyone answered in unison.

"I understand. Always remember this and never put yourself in danger."

After the shaman finished speaking, everyone dispersed, but Lu Yao was called over.

"You've learned a lot from me these past few days. How many herbs can you identify now?"

"I recognize almost everything you've taught me."

"Then come with me to gather herbs. We can gather more this time, because once the herbs wither, they'll be gone."

"Ok."

Lu Yao began searching for familiar medicinal herbs in the forest. Suddenly, a plant in the distance caught her attention. Looking at the fruits that resembled Sichuan peppercorns, Lu Yao wasn't sure if it was a wild Sichuan peppercorn tree or if it was edible. So, she picked some and asked the tribespeople who were digging for wild vegetables. After being told that it wasn't poisonous, but that it would cause a numbing sensation in the mouth and had a strong taste, Lu Yao confirmed that it must be Sichuan peppercorns.

She happily picked a lot, intending to add some flavor to the food. She was tired of eating boiled meat with a little bit of slightly bitter salt every day and now missed hot pot, barbecue, and spicy hot pot terribly.

Time passed slowly, and everyone had some food in their hands, which they put into a bag made of very large leaves. However, although the bag looked big, it could not hold much.

Her bag was already full after only a few herbs; no wonder the high shaman didn't have much in stock. It turns out that every time she went out, not only did she have to walk such a long way, but she also had to be wary of wild beasts that could jump out at any moment, and in the end, she could only bring back so little. It's a huge loss.

Lu Yao approached a man who was digging grass alone, intending to strike up a conversation with him.

"Sister, my name is Lu Yao, what's your name?"

The man suddenly raised his head, revealing a slightly sallow face. He was clearly suffering from severe malnutrition and looked like he was about to collapse at any moment.

"Hello, I'm Ya Lu," Ya Lu stammered, then immediately lowered her head.

"Do you know where the vine on the bag is?" Lu Yao asked.

Looking at the friendly Lu Yao in front of her, Ya Lu glanced at the bag in her hand.

"You mean this rope? This isn't a vine; it's the root of a plant. You don't find this around here; you have to go much further to find it. What do you need it for?"

Lu Yao did not answer Ya Lu's question, but instead looked around at the surrounding environment and asked.

"Are there any tougher vines over here? Or are there any bamboos over here?"

She thought that if there were vines, she could find a way to weave some vine baskets; if there were no vines, bamboo would also work, and she could make bamboo baskets.

After thinking for a while, Ya Lu slowly said, "There are no vines here. This is a gathering area that the tribe members often come to. The vines have been mostly cleared away."

If you want to look for it, you can ask Osei to help you. They hunt in many places and might have seen it before. As for bamboo, there isn't any here; you'll need to go to the other side of the tribe, where there's plenty of bamboo.

Looking in the direction Ya Lu was pointing, there stood a rugged-looking orc. After thanking him, Lu Yao walked up to Ou Sai and asked him a question.

"Hello, are you Ou Sai? I'm Lu Yao. Do you know where I can find some vines? I'd like some; I haven't found any here."

The man looked at the person in front of him: "What do you need the vines for? That stuff isn't edible, and it's not a medicinal herb. It's useless to you."

"I need to make something with vines..."

After listening to Lu Yao's words, Osai walked over to another orc standing guard at the border, spoke to him, and then returned to lead Lu Yao outside.

"If you want vines, there's a patch of them nearby, not too far from here. Stay close to me, I'll take you there."

"Okay, thank you, Osai."

Lu Yao followed Ou Sai, and soon the main group disappeared from sight.

She couldn't help but feel a little nervous, wondering if Osai would lie to her, take her out and abandon her, leaving her dead without her even having to lift a finger.

Lu Yao started imagining all sorts of things again. She blamed herself for watching too many illegal news and crime dramas before, and for scaring herself every day.

She prayed in her heart, hoping to find a way home. Although the people here had been very welcoming and caring so far, she felt completely unsafe in this era of wild beasts, fearing that she might accidentally die in their jaws one day.

About half an hour later, they arrived at their destination. Looking at the large patch of vines in front of them, Lu Yao was pleasantly surprised. She walked over and wanted to pull some vines to see how they felt, but Ou Sai stopped her.

"Let me do it. These vines are a bit prickly, and it will hurt a lot if you get pricked."

After thanking Ou Sai, Lu Yao asked him to help her pull down a long vine. He even carefully removed the thorns with leaves before handing it to her, asking, "Is this enough?"

Looking at the large vine in front of her, whose thorns had been removed, Lu Yao reached out and took it.

After testing the vine's flexibility and sturdiness and finding it suitable, he said to Osei, "This vine meets my requirements. I want more vines. Can you help me tear off some more?"

Osei quickly plucked a large bunch of vines, but he didn't remove all the barbs. After using the same vine to tie them up, the two decided to go back and rejoin the others.
