I thrived in the primitive tribe

Chapter 4 The Great Shaman's Scheme

The great shaman was puzzled when he saw the two men return carrying a large bundle of vines.

"You're finally back! We've almost finished picking everything here. We're heading back now. If we hadn't seen you soon, we would have come looking for you together. You went to pick vines? What are you picking these for?"

“I want to try to weave some vine baskets. The leaf bags we’re using don’t hold enough. If we can make a larger storage container, we can bring back more, and we won’t have to risk going out so often.”

Hearing the conversation between the two, everyone gathered around.

Everyone: "How can you make a wicker basket out of vines? I've never heard of that before!"

"Whether it can be done or not, I'll only know after I try it, so I asked Ose to help me pull down these vines. I'll study it when I get back to the tribe."

The crowd began to chatter amongst themselves. The high shaman, seeing the scene before him, said, "Alright, stop chatting here. Pack your things and get ready to go back to the tribe..."

Upon hearing the shaman's words, everyone dispersed to pack up what they had picked. After tidying up, at the shaman's command, everyone embarked on their journey home.

Lu Yao noticed that although the ground was bald in patches from everyone's digging, they all tacitly filled in the holes they had dug. It wasn't a series of separate holes; it seemed that everyone didn't want to damage the local ecosystem. One couldn't help but admire the wisdom of these beastmen.

We drove along, stopping frequently, and finally saw the village in the distance. Everyone was very happy.

After returning to the tribe, everyone took their spoils and went home. Here's something to mention.

Normally, the harvested food is not handed over to the tribe. Only when it is time to store food for winter will the beastmen hand over most of the harvested food to the tribe. At that time, everyone needs to go out to find food to fill their stomachs. Strong adults go out to hunt, young people go to the forest to pick fruits and dig wild vegetables, and people are sent to trade with other tribes in advance for salt and other necessities.

These were all things Lu Yao had chatted with when she was bored.

Lu Yao followed the two shamans back to the cave and found that there was only one wounded person inside. Luo Ya was not there, so he probably went out to take care of something.

The two brought out their harvest. Besides the vines and some plants that looked like Sichuan peppercorns that Lu Yao had pulled back, the rest were all medicinal herbs that she recognized.

She took out the ones she wanted separately, and poured the rest onto the stone slab where the high shaman kept the medicinal herbs.

Then she started working with the vines, thinking she should try it out as soon as possible. If she could weave it, she would carry a vine basket to the forest next time to see if she could find some usable food, such as wild wheat. Although she hadn't gone hungry every day, she was going crazy from not eating staple food for so long. Before, she had only eaten vegetables to lose weight, but now she had a deep love for rice and noodles.

Sighing, Lu Yao cleaned up the thorns of the vines, removing all the leaves and keeping only the stems. She tried it out and found that the stems of this vine were very tough and sturdy, making them excellent for making vine baskets.

The high shaman had just gone out to talk to the chief when he entered the cave and saw Lu Yao struggling with the vines. He asked, "What kind of vine basket are you talking about? Have you made one before?"

Lu Yao looked up at the Great Shaman, then lowered her head to continue processing, saying, "I've never done this before, but I feel like I should have seen it before. Maybe I can make it by studying it." She hadn't heard of any tribe having such a thing as a vine basket, and Lu Yao's identity was still undetermined; it was possible she came from "something else." The Great Shaman watched Lu Yao's actions thoughtfully for a while, then walked to her side to observe her movements. The Great Shaman asked, "You want to remove the thorns and leaves from the vines, just the stems?"

"Yes, the thorns and leaves will affect the weaving. After removing them, only the stem is left, which makes weaving both convenient and beautiful, and it won't prick your hands."

When Loya came in, he saw the two sitting together dealing with the thorns and leaves on the vines. Curious, he walked over and watched their actions, then said, "Today the tribe hunted a Humming Beast, and the chief asked the high shaman if he needed its hide?"

"I don't need it this time, please thank the chief for me."

Lu Yao, who was standing to the side, listened to the conversation between the two and was very curious about what a Hum Hum Beast was.

After receiving the Great Shaman's reply, Loya looked at his younger brother lying down and, seeing that he was sleeping peacefully, left.

The Great Shaman noticed that Lu Yao next to him seemed to want to go out and join the fun, but she didn't move because she was still dealing with the vines. She stretched her neck to look outside while speeding up her work.

"Why don't you go out and take a look? Hum-hum beasts are usually hard to encounter and catch. It's a rare treat to have caught one today. Go out and join the fun. We can finish up here tomorrow. I've been busy all day, I need to rest too..."

Upon hearing the Great Shaman's words, Lu Yao's wavering heart immediately perked up. After finishing the vine she was dealing with, the Great Shaman stood up and went to check on Luo Xue, who was lying down. Finding that she had no fever and was breathing normally, he sat down on the animal skin to rest.

"Great Shaman, I'll throw these away and go check on the Hum Hum Beast."

Lu Yao said to the Great Shaman.

The shaman nodded, and Lu Yao carried the trash out.

"The little brat's energy is amazing! This day's work has nearly broken my old bones. Looks like I'm really getting old. It's time to take on an apprentice to inherit my mantle. Otherwise, what will the Dragon Alliance tribe do without a high shaman or priest when I return to the Beast God's embrace? Lu Yao is quick to recognize medicinal herbs and has a good grasp of pharmacology; she should be able to inherit my position. I wonder if this little brat can be recognized by the Beast God to become the new high shaman..."

The high shaman sat on an animal skin, worrying about the future of the tribe.
