I thrived in the primitive tribe

Chapter 2 The Great Transformation of the Orcs

After several days of intentional and unintentional observation and inquiries.

Lu Yao understood that this was a world of beastmen, where each race basically lived in their own territory, and the tribes were generally far apart. Unless there were special circumstances, everyone lived in peace and did not disturb each other.

The tribe I belong to is a Tyrannosaurus Rex tribe, and most of its members are Tyrannosaurus Rex. Young Tyrannosaurus Rex live in human form.

Only during the differentiation period, after the high priest's prayer, will the animal transform into its beast form, after which it can freely switch between the two forms.

However, switching to beast form increases energy consumption and requires a lot of food. Therefore, when hunting, unless encountering a very large beast, people generally do not all switch to beast form, thus reducing food consumption.

Lu Yao also discovered that there seemed to be a small group of people in this tribe who were relatively small in size, and she didn't know if they hadn't grown up yet or what.

After spending several days together, Lu Yao felt everyone's friendliness and also realized the cruelty of the world she lived in. She was very grateful that she had met Luo Ya, who was out hunting.

That day, Lu Yao was sorting medicinal herbs with the Great Shaman.

The shaman explained the medicinal properties to Lu Yao while teaching her how to process the herbs.

Although Lu Yao had studied traditional Chinese medicine, she was only a freshman in college, so she didn't know much about medicinal herbs, let alone how to process them. Therefore, Lu Yao was seriously learning the relevant knowledge from the shaman.

While the two were busy, a commotion came from outside the cave. Lu Yao looked over curiously and saw a person covered in blood being carried in. The shaman instructed everyone to place the injured person on animal skins, and then she began to examine the wounded.

"Lu Yao, go boil some water, and then bring over some gentian from the left side."

Lu Yao immediately gave the gentian root to the great shaman, and then went out to boil water.

She recalled the wounded man she had seen, covered in blood, his arm in an abnormal position, and still coughing up blood. It seemed that they had encountered a formidable beast during their hunt, and this man must have been hit and suffered internal damage, otherwise he wouldn't be coughing up blood so much.

The hot water was quickly boiled. Lu Yao carried the earthenware pot into the cave, placed the hot water next to the Great Shaman, and then stood aside to wait for the Great Shaman's next instructions.

Lu Yao watched as the shaman used warm water to wipe the blood off the injured man's arm, then used a stick she had found to fix the arm in place, tied it with a long vine rope, and then began to apply the herbs she had just crushed to the arm. After applying the herbs, she wrapped it with a clean piece of animal hide.

Lu Yao observed the injured creature and found that it had stopped vomiting blood. She wondered how the Great Shaman had treated it before. Although it still looked weak, it seemed much better than before and no longer looked like it was about to die. It seemed to have been saved.

She looked at the man who had been standing to the side. He hadn't said a word since she entered the room, his face was tense. She wondered why he was standing there.

“Loya, your brother is fine now. He just needs to rest. His arm is broken, so he shouldn't move around. He'll stay here for now. Once his injury has healed a bit, you can take him back. He needs to replenish his nutrition, so you'll have to work a little harder and hunt more game for him to eat so he can recover as quickly as possible.”

"I know the great shaman, thank you so much for your help."

After saying that, Loya turned and left.

The tribal chief outside had also finished cutting up the prey they had brought back, set up a stove to cook food, and the aroma of meat gradually wafted out.

Thinking about the food she had eaten these past few days, Lu Yao felt nauseous. Although she was hungry, she had no appetite. The orcs here simply cooked the meat and added some salt, without any cooking methods. The key was that the salt had a bitter taste, making it almost inedible.

Not long after, Loya entered the cave with cooked meat and a bamboo tube of meat soup.

He handed the meat to me and the shaman, then took the bamboo tube and walked over to his younger brother, slowly feeding him the drink.

"Great Shaman, when will Luo Xue wake up?"

"If he doesn't have a fever this afternoon, he should wake up around this evening. If you're free this afternoon, stay here and watch over him. If he feels feverish, make him some soup with this herb."

Looking at the stem in the shaman's hand, Lu Yao thought it looked more and more like ginger.

Later she learned that this ginger was actually another plant, and the two were not related at all; they just looked very similar.

"Wasn't the high shaman in the cave this afternoon?"

Loya asked.

"This afternoon, I'm going to take Lu Yao to pick some herbs nearby. We don't have many left here, and it might not be enough if someone gets injured. I heard from the chief that he's also good at picking wild fruits and such nearby. I'll also let the cubs go pick some sweet berries."

"The wild animals near the tribe have been mostly cleared out, so there's not much danger. However, we should still bring a few orcs with us when we go out, just in case of any unexpected situations."

"I will. By the way, what happened during the hunt? How did Luo Xue get so badly injured?"

"We were very lucky this time. We found a herd of bull-like beasts, and after driving one away, the capture went quite smoothly. Just when we were about to succeed, a bull-horned dragon suddenly ran out from the side and charged at me. Everyone was focused on hunting the bull-like beasts and didn't notice it. Luo Xue turned around and saw it. He knocked me aside and was then sent flying by the bull-horned dragon. It's my fault for not being vigilant enough, which led to Luo Xue being so badly injured..."

Seeing Loya's guilty and sad expression.

“Every hunt is a life-threatening endeavor. We need to learn more about this era and see if there are any ways to reduce the casualties caused by hunting to the tribe.”

"Wait a minute, isn't Loya a Tyrannosaurus Rex? Then isn't Luo Xue one too? Are Carnotaurus really that powerful? Even a Tyrannosaurus Rex could be injured so badly after being hit..."

As Lu Yao thought this, she asked the question aloud, and the Great Shaman glanced at her.

"I don't know how this child has lived this long. How come he doesn't even know basic common sense?"

"When hunting prey that poses less of a threat, the beastmen do not transform into their beast form. They hunt in human form, which allows them to be more agile and consumes less energy. However, in human form, our bodies are far less robust than in beast form, which is why we were so badly injured when we were hit by the Horned Dragon."

"Wow, isn't this just like Ultraman transforming? So cool!" Lu Yao exclaimed in her heart.
