Dapeng's Time Travel Life
Chapter 63 Ruins Exploration and Hidden Dangers
Under the blazing sun, the borderland was scorching. Zhang Peng led a squad of elite soldiers, following the guidance of the mysterious symbol, into a desolate valley. The valley was flanked by towering cliffs and jagged rocks, resembling lurking beasts ready to devour their prey at any moment.
"General, this place is eerie. I feel like something is watching us." A soldier swallowed hard, his voice trembling involuntarily.
Zhang Peng's expression was solemn. He gripped his spear tightly and vigilantly surveyed his surroundings: "Everyone, stay alert and don't fall into the enemy's ambush."
The group continued their journey, and as they ventured deeper into the valley, the atmosphere grew increasingly eerie. Suddenly, a low roar echoed from ahead, like the howl of a demon from the depths of hell. The soldiers froze, gripping their weapons tightly, their faces filled with terror.
"General, what... what is that sound?" Li Ming asked in a low voice, his hand gripping the hilt of his sword tightly, his knuckles turning white from the force.
Zhang Peng did not answer; his gaze was fixed on the direction from which the sound came. From the mist ahead, a gigantic demonic beast slowly emerged. Its body was covered in black scales, each gleaming with a cold, icy light, and its blood-red vertical pupils revealed endless brutality and bloodlust.
"It's a Blackscale Demon Leopard!" someone exclaimed. In the legends circulating on the border, this kind of magical beast is an extremely dangerous being, possessing immense strength and incredible speed; ordinary soldiers are no match for it.
"Protect yourselves and follow my orders!" Zhang Peng shouted, charging forward first. His spear, like a dragon emerging from the sea, aimed straight for the Black-Scaled Leopard's eyes. The leopard nimbly dodged to the side, then pounced on Zhang Peng, its sharp claws whistling through the air.
Zhang Peng dodged the demonic leopard's attack with a swift movement, shouting, "Archers, fire!" Instantly, arrows rained down on the leopard. Several arrows struck it, but it seemed largely unaffected; instead, it became enraged, rampaging through the soldiers, leaving screams of agony in its wake.
"This can't go on!" Zhang Peng was frantic. He observed the leopard's movements and noticed that it would crouch slightly before each attack. Seizing this opening, as the leopard crouched again to pounce, he lunged forward and plunged his spear deep into the leopard's neck. The leopard let out a painful roar, struggled a few times, and then collapsed to the ground.
Having defeated the demonic leopard, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but Zhang Peng knew this was just the beginning. They continued forward and finally discovered an ancient stone gate at the end of the valley. The stone gate was covered with symbols similar to those on the stone slabs, exuding a mysterious aura.
“This is it.” Zhang Peng stepped forward and carefully studied the symbols on the stone door. He recalled Lin Wan’er’s jade pendant and tried to touch the symbols in the order of the patterns on the pendant. As he moved, the stone door slowly opened with a deep rumble.
An ancient and mysterious aura wafted over them. Behind the stone door was a deep passage, its walls inlaid with gems that emitted a faint glow, barely illuminating the path ahead. Zhang Peng led his soldiers cautiously into the passage, their footsteps echoing in the silent space.
As they walked, the passage suddenly opened up, revealing a huge circular hall. In the center of the hall stood a massive stone platform, upon which rested a crystal ball radiating multicolored light, surrounded by strange runes.
"Could this be the mysterious power Lin Wan'er mentioned?" Li Ming walked forward curiously, wanting to touch the crystal ball.
"Watch out!" Before Zhang Peng could stop them, the crystal ball suddenly emitted a bright light, sending Li Ming flying. Immediately afterward, countless traps emerged from the walls around the hall, and arrows and boulders rained down on everyone.
"Get out of the way!" Zhang Peng shouted, leading his soldiers to scatter and take cover. In the chaos, he noticed that the light from the crystal ball seemed to be related to the activation of a mechanism; whenever the light flashed, the mechanism would start.
While dodging the attacks from the traps, he pondered a way to break free. Suddenly, he remembered Lin Wan'er's dying words: the power within these ruins could help them repel the enemy; it couldn't be just a simple set of traps. He carefully observed the runes around the crystal ball, trying to find a pattern.
Just then, a soldier was struck by an arrow and fell into a pool of blood. Zhang Peng was frantic with worry; he knew that if they couldn't decipher the mechanism quickly, they would all perish here. And the secrets of these ruins would be buried forever.
