Dapeng's Time Travel Life

Chapter 64 The Secrets of the Ruins and the Intertwining of Fate

Inside the ruins' main hall, the roar of mechanisms, the clatter of boulders, and the soldiers' cries mingled together, like a deathly symphony. Zhang Peng dodged and weaved through the flying arrows and rolling boulders, his eyes fixed on the runes surrounding the crystal ball, his mind racing, trying to find clues to break the mechanism.

Suddenly, he noticed that the light from one of the runes flickered slightly differently from the others. An idea struck him, and disregarding the danger, he rushed towards the crystal ball. Just as a boulder was about to smash into him, he dodged to the side and precisely touched the rune. In an instant, the crystal ball's light softened, and the attack from the mechanism ceased.

"General, how did you do that?" Li Ming crawled out from the corner, his face covered in dust and surprise.

Zhang Peng, panting heavily, wiped the sweat from his forehead: "I'm not sure either, I'm just taking a gamble. It seems there's some connection between these runes, and this rune should be the key to controlling the mechanism."

The crowd gathered around, their eyes filled with curiosity and awe as they gazed at the crystal ball on the stone platform. Zhang Peng slowly reached out and touched the crystal ball. A warm and mysterious power flowed into his body through his fingertips, and blurry images appeared in his mind.

In the scene, a celestial being in a long robe battles evil forces on this land. The magical weapon in his hand gleams with multicolored light, and each swing triggers extraordinary phenomena in the heavens and earth. After the battle, the celestial being seals some mysterious power within this ruin, leaving behind protective mechanisms and clues, waiting for a destined person to unlock them.

"I understand now. These ruins were left behind by immortals, and the power within might really help us repel foreign forces." Zhang Peng shared the images in his mind with the others, and the soldiers' eyes lit up with hope upon hearing this.

However, before they could explore further, a sudden burst of chaotic footsteps and shouts of battle erupted outside the ruins. Zhang Peng was startled; he immediately realized that foreign forces had caught up with them. "Damn it, we're surrounded! Everyone, prepare for battle!"

He led his soldiers swiftly towards the entrance of the ruins, only to find that foreign troops had already completely surrounded the valley. Leading them was a tall, imposing general who, upon seeing Zhang Peng, sneered, "Zhang Peng, I didn't expect you to find this place. Today is your death day!"

Zhang Peng's expression was cold and stern. Holding a long spear, he met the other party's gaze without fear: "If you want my life, you are not enough!"

Battle was imminent. Soldiers from foreign forces surged in like a tide, while Zhang Peng and his men fought back tenaciously, relying on the terrain at the entrance of the ruins. Zhang Peng wielded his spear among the enemy ranks, each thrust taking a life, but the enemy was simply too numerous, and they gradually found themselves in a predicament.

Just then, Zhang Peng suddenly felt a surge of power within him—the mysterious power he had gained after touching the crystal ball. He tried to harness this power, and suddenly a layer of multicolored light emanated from his spear, greatly increasing its power. He swung the spear, and wherever it went, enemies fell one after another.

Seeing Zhang Peng's transformation, the soldiers' morale soared. They also felt the encouragement of the mysterious power within them, significantly boosting their combat effectiveness. The foreign forces' soldiers were stunned by this sudden change, and their offensive began to falter.

However, the foreign commander was unwilling to accept defeat. He roared and ordered his soldiers to continue the attack. Just as the two sides were locked in a stalemate, a melodious flute tune suddenly drifted from the sky. The flute music was like heavenly music, yet it possessed an irresistible magic, causing everyone to involuntarily stop what they were doing.

Following the sound of the flute, Zhang Peng saw a woman slowly emerging from the mist of the valley. She wore a white robe, her long hair flowing; it was Lin Wan'er. "Miss Lin, you...you weren't dead?" Zhang Peng asked in surprise.

Lin Wan'er smiled slightly but did not answer his question. She walked to Zhang Peng's side and said softly, "General, it's time to unlock the true secret of this ruin." With that, she took out the jade pendant, which resonated with the runes on the crystal ball. The crystal ball shone brightly once more, and a powerful force surged from the ruin, repelling all the soldiers from the foreign forces.

As this power surged forth, more images surfaced in Zhang Peng's mind. He seemed to see his future destiny in a fantastical and unknown world of cultivation, and all of this was inextricably linked to Lin Wan'er.
