Inside the border camp, the lights burned all night. Zhang Peng stood before a huge military map, his brow furrowed, his eyes fixed on the markers indicating enemy movements. Three days had passed since he returned to the border, and the foreign forces were closing in; a major battle was imminent.

"General, the latest intelligence: the enemy's vanguard has reached within fifty miles of the border, and the main force is also accelerating its advance." A scout hurriedly entered the tent and knelt on one knee to report.

Zhang Peng nodded slightly, his expression grave: "Order all units to enter a state of high alert, with no room for complacency. Closely monitor enemy movements and report any developments immediately."

"Yes, sir!" The scout accepted the order and left.

Zhang Peng turned to look at the generals inside the tent. Their expressions were solemn, their eyes revealing unwavering resolve. "Gentlemen," he said, "the enemy is advancing fiercely; this will be a fierce battle. But we are defending our homeland, with countless civilians behind us. We cannot retreat!"

"General, rest assured, we are willing to live and die with the border!" the generals shouted in unison, their voices making the tents buzz.

Just then, the tent flap was lifted, and Li Ming walked in, holding a letter in his hand: "General, I have just received an urgent letter from the imperial court."

Zhang Peng's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly took the letter and began to read it. In the letter, the emperor expressed concern about the border war, stating that the promised reinforcements were on their way, but due to the long distance, they might not arrive in time. At the same time, the emperor approved of Zhang Peng's battle plan and encouraged him to be adaptable and determined to defeat the enemy.

After reading the letter, Zhang Peng felt a mixture of relief and pressure. The delayed arrival of reinforcements meant they would have to face the enemy alone with their existing forces. He took a deep breath, calmed himself, and said to Li Ming, "Pass down the order to inform the soldiers that reinforcements are on their way and boost morale."

Li Ming was slightly taken aback, but quickly understood Zhang Peng's intention and nodded, saying, "Yes, General, I'll take care of it right away."

As the enemy forces drew ever closer, the atmosphere at the border grew increasingly tense. Soldiers remained steadfast at their posts day and night, ready for battle at any moment. Zhang Peng frequently inspected the various defensive positions, boosting the soldiers' morale while constantly adjusting the battle plan based on the enemy's movements.

One night, Zhang Peng was resting in his tent when he suddenly heard a commotion outside. He immediately got up and went out to investigate. A soldier ran up to him in a panic: "General, something terrible has happened! There are a lot of rumors circulating in the camp that reinforcements won't be coming, and we definitely won't be able to hold the border this time. The soldiers are panicking and their morale is low."

Zhang Peng's heart sank; he knew this was definitely an enemy plot. They were trying to disrupt morale by spreading rumors. "Summon all soldiers immediately; I need to give a speech."

Soon, the soldiers assembled in the center of the camp. Zhang Peng stood on the high platform, his gaze sweeping over the crowd: "Brothers, I know you've heard some bad rumors, but I'm telling you, they're all enemy plots! "Yes!" the soldiers shouted in unison, their voices echoing through the night sky, instantly boosting morale.

Zhang Peng nodded in satisfaction: "Alright, everyone go back and rest now, conserve your energy, and prepare for battle!"

After the soldiers dispersed, Zhang Peng returned to his tent. He knew the enemy's plot wouldn't end there; they would surely have more tricks up their sleeve. He had to remain vigilant and be ready to counter their moves at any moment.

As expected, the enemy took action again the next morning. They sent an elite cavalry force to challenge Zhang Peng's troops at the border, attempting to lure them out of the city for a decisive battle.

"General, the enemy is too arrogant! Let's go out and teach them a lesson!" a general said angrily.

Zhang Peng shook his head: "The enemy is trying to provoke us. We can't fall for it. Pass down the order to hold the city gates and ignore them."

The enemy shouted insults for a long time, but seeing that Zhang Peng's troops did not move, they had no choice but to retreat in frustration. Watching the enemy's departing figures, Zhang Peng understood that this was merely the calm before the storm; the real battle was about to begin.
