Huh? There's a magic school here.
Chapter 96 Final Exam Arrangements
With one week left until the exam on June 1st, our professors have stopped teaching new material and are leaving the rest of the time for review.
Actually, the first year's exams are quite easy. As long as everyone puts in the effort, passing is relatively straightforward. The difficulty lies in getting an excellent grade, as the professors will only select a few students for this honor. Also, the exams for the eight prefects and the student council presidents (the ten of them) are slightly different from those for the other junior wizards.
Because they were all privately tutored by Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick, their learning progress was much faster than that of other young wizards, and therefore the expectations for them were also much higher.
The days leading up to the exams were tense and busy. On the last Monday of May, the college posted a notice about the exams and holiday arrangements. This notice, however, shattered the quiet atmosphere of the campus.
After class, the young wizards returned to the common room and crowded around the bulletin board, staring in disbelief at the notices.
Jean-Claude, taking advantage of his physical strength, quickly squeezed in.
"Jean-Nor, how is it? Did you see it clearly?"
"Don't make a sound, Jerome! I'll be right there."
Not long after he finished speaking, Renno squeezed out of the crowd again. Panting, he spoke to his other friends...
"The written exam for Charms will be on the morning of June 1st, and the practical exam for Charms will be on the afternoon of June 1st. The written exam for Transfiguration will be on the morning of the second day, and the practical exam for Transfiguration will be on the afternoon of the second day. Then we will have two days off, and the exam results will be announced on June 5th."
"I understand. The exams are held over two days. The first day is all spell classes, and the second day is all transfiguration classes. Did you see the end-of-term graduation date and the start date of the new semester, Ranno?"
"Is there even a need to ask Rangnuo? He can definitely leave once the results are announced, and school starts on September 1st!"
"No, Fabio! You're wrong this time. Although we can choose to leave school after the results are announced, we can also stay until June 20th. The announcement says that June 21st is the last day for students to be at school, unless they have a guardian's letter authorizing Hogwarts to supervise the young wizards during the holidays. And our start date isn't September 1st either; it's been moved up a week. The reason is that we will be enrolling over 700 new students this semester, and to more conveniently and quickly assign these new students to the various houses, there will be approximately 100 young wizards participating in an entrance ceremony every day."
"Do we need to arrive at school a week early to register?"
"Of course, if you don't want to attend the freshman dinner, you can apply to arrive at school before September 1st. In any case, you can't be late on the first day!"
"Oh no! I don't want to miss the freshman enrollment! It'll be so much more interesting than last year! But I plan to leave as soon as I get my exam results; I can't wait!"
"What's wrong, Fabio? Do you have something important to take care of at home? I wanted to stay a little longer and play Wizard Chess with everyone! When are you leaving, Jean?"
"Please, Anil, we're wizards, not cavemen! I miss my game console, but I miss my soda even more! I'd love to play games while sipping my soda!"
"Is this why you've put so much effort into the Emergency Freeze Charm?"
"Yes, iced cola doubles the happiness! Okay, enough about me, Jean, you haven't told me your own plans yet!"
"Well, I made an appointment with Old Rand; he asked me to help build some things. So I guess I might stay until the end?"
"Wait, who is Old Rand?"
"You idiot Jerome, that centaur who taught Jean-Nor to blacksmith last time!"
"What? You still have contact with that centaur?"
“Yes, Jerome! Do you want to come along? Old Rand said he’s getting old, and the Battleaxe tribe urgently needs some things, so he invited me to help.”
"No, thank you for letting me know. I'm not like you, with a strong body! I want to live a couple more years!"
"Anyway, it's still early. Let's focus on the exam right in front of us!"
Inside the Owl Tower at Hogwarts, Joanna was cuddling an owl and petting it. The owl, with its eyes half-closed, looked quite content.
"Honey?"
Joanna tried to wake the pensive Bernhard, but when she saw that her boyfriend ignored her, she raised her voice even louder.
"Benhard! Did you hear me?"
"Ah? What's wrong?"
Bernhard, as if waking from a dream, looked at his girlfriend.
"I'm talking to you about the exam, why aren't you answering me?"
"Oh, oh, oh, I'm wondering what the school's move means! I have a feeling this isn't simple. You see, our Hogwarts has only just been established. Even if there are very few young wizards with magical talent in Great Britain, it's enough to fill the 800-student quota this term. So why is the school recruiting foreign students?!"
“How would I know? I’m not Headmaster Andres. I’m more concerned about my exam results. I know other young wizards are fine with just a good grade! But we prefects have to strive for excellence! If we prefects can’t even get excellence, how are we supposed to keep the new students in line next semester?”
"Don't overthink it, Joanna. With your intelligence and wit, how could you not get an excellent grade? The school's actions are even stranger! Even if they want to expand their influence, wouldn't it be easier to do so in Europe? Why come to the poor and backward China? Is it like what the newspapers say, that Principal Andres is expanding his company to China? Or does he have his eye on something else in China?"
After speaking, Bernhard fell into thought again, and Joanna was completely convinced. She felt that her boyfriend really had a vivid imagination; he could think about anything for a long time. But this was also his strength—he thought things through thoroughly.
So Joanna started looking at Bernhard's study notes. Bernhard's thinking was sometimes different from her own, which gave her a completely new experience.
In the Gryffindor dormitory at night, the lights were off. Only the sunflower on the bedside table emitted a faint glow.
"Beretta, you said you got a guardianship letter and are staying at Hogwarts for the summer?"
"Yeah, my sister said there will be big changes at Hogwarts this semester and she'll be very busy, so she won't have time to take care of me! I think she just wants to sneak out with Headmaster Andres without me!"
"You're so pitiful. I remember you spent Christmas at school. How about you come over to our house for the holidays? We can even do our homework together."
"Oh, no need, that would be too much trouble for you! Besides, I made a promise with Mafa that I'm going to visit her during the holidays to learn archery."
"Really? I want to go too. What a pity. I'd rather go back and visit my parents. I haven't seen them for months."
"It's okay, Wendy. Come early when school starts, and I'll take you to the Forbidden Forest to learn archery!"
"Really? That's wonderful!"
"Really, I, Beretta, mean what I say!"
