Huh? There's a magic school here.
Chapter 19 Reply (1)
This post only generated some buzz on local Nottinghamshire forums and didn't cause a major stir in the broader online world. The reason it caused a stir was because most netizens believed it was just some little trick the young man named Bernhard played to woo a girl, or simply a prank on Bernhard.
Overall, everyone just chuckled and laughed it off, since there's so much news in modern society that people don't really pay much attention to it (just like this novel).
Our client, however, is completely unaware of anything, because Bernhard, who was so excited last night that he couldn't sleep for half the night, is still fast asleep in bed.
The other party, Joanna Hampton, got up very early. Getting up so early on a holiday wasn't her intention; she was also woken up by a noise. She looked out the window in confusion because the owl outside had woken her up. The owl kept knocking on the window, seemingly trying to get in.
Because of her experience last night, Joanna wasn't particularly afraid of owls. She went over and opened the window, and the owl jumped into the room the instant the window opened. Its eyes were full of displeasure, as if it were blaming Joanna for opening the window.
Joanna naturally saw the letter on the owl's leg, but instead of taking it, she found a paper cup and filled it with water. This gesture pleased the owl, after all, it had flown quite a distance. Seeing the owl drinking, Joanna then took down the familiar letter; it was indeed the same as the one she had seen yesterday, only the recipient was now herself.
Last night, because there were many people around and Bernhard was being friendly to her, Joanna didn't take what happened yesterday to heart, assuming it was just a trick by Bernhard. But seeing that she had also received a letter today, she felt something was wrong.
If it was just a trick by Bernhard, she had already clearly stated yesterday that she also had feelings for him. So, he could simply ask her out as usual; there was no need for him to pull the same stunt again. Most importantly, she discovered that the owl delivering the letter today was completely different from yesterday's. Yesterday's owl was much larger, while today's was much smaller. So, perhaps this meant that Bernhard had nothing to do with this?
This is interesting, because if it wasn't Bernhard's doing, it could only be a letter from someone else. But what's with the acceptance letter on the letter? Could it be a prank? That prank is quite expensive; it would require a brown envelope, parchment, and training different owls to deliver it. Joanna's eyes widened as she considered the possibility that it couldn't be real. Could the Harry Potter novels not be children's stories, but real stories?
Perhaps the Harry Potter novels were released by the wizarding world to test the reaction of the Muggle world?
The more she thought about it, the more likely it seemed, so she quickly took out paper and pen and began writing a reply.
"Professor McGonagall: I am delighted to receive your letter, but I find it hard to believe. Therefore, how can you prove that you are indeed Professor McGonagall and the contents of this letter? I truly hope this is not a prank. If you are deceiving me, I will be extremely angry!..."
After writing the reply, I tied it to the owl's leg, stroked its head a couple of times, and let it go. I must say, petting an owl was a very novel experience.
Joanna saw the owl off, looked at the acceptance letter in her hand, thought for a while, and then went to wash up. She decided to go and discuss it with Bernhard.
Half an hour later, Joanna, holding the letter, stood at Bernhard's door and rang the doorbell. The doorbell rang for a while, but no one answered. Joanna had already given up and was about to try again in the afternoon when the door opened.
Bernhard opened the door angrily. His parents were away on a business trip, and he was living alone, so he had only dared to invite his friends over yesterday. He couldn't believe who would be knocking on his door so early in the morning. If it was someone trying to sell him something, he was determined to teach them a lesson they would never forget.
But when the door opened, sunlight streamed in, bathing Joanna in its glow, making her appear even more radiant and lovely. Joanna smiled warmly at Bernhard, and after he reacted, he said, "Come in and sit down for a bit. I'll be right there in five minutes!" Then he turned and ran back to the bedroom. As he ran, he thought, "Oh no! Why didn't she call before she came? Did she change her mind if she saw me like this?!"
A little while later, Bernhard and Joanna sat side by side on the sofa, with two letters and two drinks on the table in front of them.
"Hmm, wizard! Are you sure these two letters weren't your doing? Tell the truth! It's nothing, if you really did it, I'll just find you amusing!"
"It really wasn't me who caused Joanna's death. I don't know what happened. You didn't see how terrified I was by that owl yesterday. I thought it was some kind of monster!"
"That's interesting. I received the letter this morning. Is someone trying to scam us? But what's the point? No normal person would believe in a magical world! Even Harry Potter fans wouldn't go that far!"
"I hadn't even noticed until you mentioned it, but I've been thinking about you all night..." Before he could finish, the still somewhat dazed Bernhard suddenly perked up, almost letting slip what he was saying.
"With what?" Joanna raised an eyebrow and looked at Bernhard.
"Haha, I mean I need to get along well with you and win your favor so I can become your boyfriend!" Bernhard replied quickly and cleverly.
"Alright, you pass, but we'll talk about this later!"
"Haha, okay, so what do you think of these two letters?"
“I think it might be true, because I really can’t think of what you could gain by using this kind of scam. After all, you have to have a purpose to scam people! Our two families aren’t rich! It can’t be for the sake of getting people, right?”
"That's right, that's right. It's perfectly normal for me to want you. What would I, a grown man, be for?"
"Oh? It's normal for you to want me?" Joanna looked at Benhard with a mocking expression.
“Oh, that’s not what I meant. I meant you’re very beautiful!” Bernhard quickly explained.
"That's more like it. So, excluding answers like 'it's too fake to lie' and 'the cost of a prank is too high,' what else is there? Let me think..." Joanna rubbed her head as she thought.
"By the way, do you think it might be a publicity stunt for the upcoming Harry Potter movie?"
"Hmm? That's certainly possible, but this kind of hype should be widespread! I didn't see any news like this in the newspapers on my way here!"
"Could it be that it hasn't fermented yet?"
"Huh? Then I was tricked? I even wrote a reply!"
"Hmm? You wrote a reply?"
Bernhard stared at the girl in front of him in disbelief, while the girl wore a malicious expression. He felt a chill run down his spine, as if something bad was about to happen.
