Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy

Chapter 68 Na Ling (Part 2)

“It seems it’s time to say goodbye, Mr. Peng Fei.” Xiao Junyao’s tone was calm, but a faint sadness lingered in her eyes. She waved gently, signaling Peng Fei to follow her. The two walked silently through the building’s secret passage and arrived at the nearby underground parking lot.

Peng Fei's gaze was drawn to a small, glossy black sports car. The car sat there quietly, its elegant curves seemingly proclaiming its nobility. The car's very presence accentuated the refined taste of its owner.

Xiao Junyao walked to the sports car and gently stroked the body, as if saying goodbye. Then, she turned to look at Peng Fei, a hint of apology flashing in her eyes: "I know you hate me now, but I have no choice... Yu Lian holds my vitals, and getting rid of him completely won't be that easy."

At this point, she seemed to feel that expressing herself in this way was too selfish, and immediately changed the subject: "I will continue my connection with this place in another capacity. Would you like me to give you a ride?"

Peng Fei remained silent, his gaze fixed on Xiao Junyao's slightly trembling left hand. A gruesome wound on her arm was oozing bright red blood, dripping onto the ground and forming a shocking pool of blood.

After a moment of silence, Peng Fei finally spoke slowly: "No need, Miss Xiao. You went to great lengths to 'invite' me here, I'm afraid I can't trouble you to 'invite' me back." With that, he turned and walked towards the exit, leaving Xiao Junyao standing alone beside the sports car, watching his departing figure.

Perhaps feeling that there would be no more opportunities in the future, Xiao Junyao's hand remained frozen on the car door. At this moment, she was making a choice that no one else could see.

"Peng Fei!" After a fierce internal struggle, Xiao Junyao blurted it out. The secret that had tormented her conscience for so many years was finally being revealed.

"Seven years ago, Yu Lian made me do this because of An Han's car accident. I'm the one who caused her current condition..." Xiao Junyao's words pierced the silence in the air.

Peng Fei, who was walking, froze, his body tilting slightly. His eyes were filled with shock and disbelief. The shadow of the parking lot's supporting pillars perfectly concealed his expression, hiding him completely.

“I don’t have the courage to tell her—” Xiao Junyao’s breathing became rapid. She didn’t know if what she was doing was right, but the guilt and self-blame in her heart made it impossible for her to continue hiding it.

Peng Fei slowly raised his head, his gaze meeting Xiao Junyao's. His eyes revealed disappointment, but even more so, anger.

"You broke her wings, but you also awakened a stronger version of her," he said righteously. Yes, it was that cruel blow that completely awakened the weak An Han, transforming her completely. This was the key figure who enabled her to ascend to that high position and seize power.

"Faced with the harm and slander from others, she chose to endure it silently. If you were her, what would you do?"

However, he had no time to delve into the reasons with Xiao Junyao; he was eager to leave. He didn't even glance at Xiao Junyao again; she had become insignificant to him.

He hurried towards another exit of the parking lot. At the same time, he pulled his cell phone, its screen shattered beyond recognition and torn like a spiderweb, from his pocket and pressed the call button without hesitation, dialing the number that had been showing as a missed call.

After a brief, silent pause following the dialing, only the soft sound of breathing came from the other end of the line. Peng Fei's heart tightened, but he mustered all his courage and instinctively spoke:

"Hello? Excuse me... is this Zhao Lin?" His voice carried a slight hint of uncertainty and nervousness. He wasn't sure if this call would actually connect him to the person he hoped to reach.

"Long time no see... Peng Fei."

A familiar voice came from the other end of the phone.

……

The temporary building of Shenzhen Daily was bustling with activity.

Xiao Ke clenched her fists, struggling to suppress the urge to kick the malfunctioning printer. How could she possibly have delivered the manuscript before the deadline without the technician's help? Furious, she stormed out of the cubicle and into the lobby. The studio was still bustling with activity, as tomorrow's newspapers hadn't been submitted yet.

Xiao Ke looked around, trying to find someone who could help him repair the printer.

“Does anyone know how to fix this printer?” she called out to her colleagues. However, no one paid any attention to her plea. Meanwhile, she noticed them hurrying through the studio with Editor-in-Chief Wu. Their expressions seemed preoccupied with something more important than the broken printer.

"What happened?" Xiao Ke asked impatiently before they even got close.

"Look!" someone suddenly shouted, their voice filled with shock and disbelief. "Social media is exploding!"

Xiao Ke was startled upon hearing this and quickly followed the others to the other side of the room.

At this moment, Editor-in-Chief Wu and other staff members were staring intently at a row of television monitors, their faces filled with solemnity.

Upon closer inspection, Xiao Ke discovered that every major television station was tuning in, clearly focused on the same issue.

Although broadcast news is seen as a competitor worldwide, it still needs to be monitored when breaking news occurs.

At this moment, all channels, whether traditional television stations or mainstream online media, are broadcasting a video that appeared out of nowhere:

Above the vast, white snow-capped mountains, a figure was slowly floating. She seemed to completely disregard the planet's gravity, landing steadily on the snow like a deity descending.

The scrolling subtitles below clearly showed that all of this information came from a large-scale conflict that occurred two days prior.

"A mysterious woman claiming to be a member of the Deer Clan is attempting to make contact with the military in Bear Ridge."

"Breaking news! A small town with tens of thousands of inhabitants was completely destroyed overnight, and an exceptionally fierce battle broke out in the town center. Could the culprit behind all this be the long-extinct Deer Clan?!"

"The good news is that the local troops have successfully retrieved the remains of a Deer Clan member and are actively contacting the Academy of Sciences."

"This...this really happened?" Editor-in-Chief Wu muttered to himself, extending his right hand and slowly placing it against the wall of a small cubicle. "Then, how credible is this story?" he pondered to himself. Such a high-profile entrance—could it all have been intentionally orchestrated by these people?

What exactly do they want to achieve?
