Boonie Bears: Another World Fantasy

Chapter 55 The Eye of the Storm (Part 2)

“They all froze to death…” Salta murmured.

The sound was particularly desolate in the howling wind. He unconsciously pulled down his thick hood, revealing his wind-blown, disheveled hair. He gazed silently at the scene before him, his heart filled with respect for these "heroes."

Most of these people remained in the same posture as when they died, as if making a final struggle against the terrible cold. Their bodies were frozen stiff, but their faces seemed to still retain a sense of unwillingness and determination. One can imagine how desperate and helpless they must have felt, facing the insurmountable cold, only able to walk step by step towards death.

Salta's gaze slowly swept over the desolate "graveyard," a profound sadness welling up within him. These brave people had written legends with their lives, and this history would forever be etched into this land.

He slowly bent down, stretched out his right hand, and gently scooped up a handful of cold snow. He raised his hand above his head, letting the snowflakes fall from his grasp. These pure white snowflakes danced in the air, like a silent funeral.

“Team One and Team Two are gone…” Salta’s voice was filled with pain and despair, each word uttered with extraordinary difficulty. He swallowed hard, his throat dry. His face was as pale as paper, his eyes revealing deep weariness and helplessness. On this vast snowfield, that dilapidated tracked vehicle had become their last refuge, their only hope for survival.

"Tell the people in the vehicle to continue!"

A tense and oppressive atmosphere filled the tracked vehicle. Realizing things were getting increasingly serious, Su Luo felt as if a mountain was pressing down on him, so heavy he could barely breathe. The massive vehicle was like a cold, iron coffin, mercilessly trapping everyone inside, their destined fate.

Su Luo tried her best to force herself not to look at that horrific scene, but it was all etched deep into her memory like a nightmare, impossible to shake off.

She tried to think of things that would make her happy, but the images were like shattered mirrors, impossible to piece together into a complete memory.

"It's alright, Doctor, you don't need to worry too much. Everything has a bright side." At this moment, only Xiao Luo noticed that something was wrong with Su Luo. He tried to appear calm and attempted to comfort her with words, but his voice still trembled slightly. "It's just a little snow..."

“Yeah, small enough to freeze someone who was just jumping around to death—” Salta, who had just gotten into the car, chimed in, saying expressionlessly, “It’s getting colder and colder here, and I guess that thing that can manufacture things is still around here… If things get really bad, we might have to abandon the car.”

His voice was calm and indifferent, as if he were describing something perfectly ordinary, but it sent chills down one's spine.

"Why are you acting so strangely? Are we in your way?" Su Luo could no longer tolerate Salta's attitude and glared at him angrily. "Is it wrong to have a sliver of hope?"

Her eyes were filled with dissatisfaction. It was one thing for her to belittle herself, but now she was even speaking rudely to her assistant.

Hearing Sulo's question, Salta remained unmoved, simply replying, "I'm just stating the facts."

That look in his eyes was saying: I don't want to argue with you.

He seemed completely indifferent to other people's feelings. This cold attitude made Su Luo even angrier.

"Ignore him, Luo."

However, despite her efforts to ignore Salta's presence, his mysterious aura lingered in her mind, causing her to feel a slight unease about the journey ahead.

If I really can't go back, what will happen to my mother's research institute? Su Luo was torn between her responsibility to her mother's research institute and the perilous reality she was in. She knew that this was probably a conspiracy meticulously planned by Wei, waiting for her to fall into the trap step by step, then let her die in this desolate place, and not even her body would be found... In this way, Wei could easily obtain the Heavenly Fire.

"Why didn't I think of that sooner..." She slumped weakly back in her chair, blaming herself for being so slow-witted, for not realizing the importance of this issue sooner...

In stark contrast was Salta, sitting quietly to the side, staring straight ahead, his true thoughts impossible to fathom. Was he afraid, or simply indifferent to everything? Su Luo couldn't help but mutter to himself, "What an unfathomable person..."

Su Luo tried to find a clue in his lean face, but to no avail. This man was like a mystery, drawing her deeper and deeper into his world.

At this moment, the tracked vehicle continued to speed relentlessly, breaking through the snow and heading towards its final destination.

……

"Please refill toner." The laser printer flashed a bright light, seemingly making an urgent call.

Peng Fei had been waiting in front of the printer for who knows how long. Now, he was asleep on An Han's desk, with a drool hanging from the corner of his mouth, which dripped down and soaked a stack of documents on the desk.

"Oh no—" Peng Fei suddenly woke up with a start, glanced at his watch, and panicked. The clock hand pointed to seven in the evening, and he had only intended to print out the materials the team leader needed to submit today before An Han returned from her meeting. This task, which should have been completed before six o'clock, had now been delayed until now.

"Ah! I'm doomed this time... I'm afraid I'll lose my job..." Just thinking about the team leader's fierce, debt-collecting manner as he urged for the work progress made Peng Fei's scalp tingle. Helpless, he could only obediently stay and work overtime. "Looks like I'll have to rely on a midnight snack to fill my stomach for dinner again tonight."

Just as he was about to open the printer cartridge to add toner, a light pink sticky note suddenly appeared at the printer's exit. The note lay there quietly, as if it had been ejected from the printer, waiting for someone to discover it.

Peng Fei picked up the note with curiosity. It read in neat handwriting: "Peng Fei, I've prepared the materials for you. Dinner is in the refrigerator in my room. I have a business dinner outside, so don't wait for me."

Seeing those words, a warm feeling welled up inside him. Although there was no name marked, he recognized the familiar handwriting immediately as belonging to An Han. His phone in his pocket vibrated restlessly a few times. A message suddenly popped up.

"You've got some pretty powerful connections, huh? You even got Boss An to submit your materials for you?" The comment was followed by an incredibly surprised emoticon. It was as if the team leader's helpless expression was already vividly before our eyes.

He looked at the message and couldn't help but laugh.

So An Han had done all this work for him in advance?

He slowly leaned back in the swivel chair, stretching his body as if to release all his fatigue. He was intoxicated by the sense of control and overall perspective, as if he had been lucky enough to board a speeding train during the lowest point of his life, which completely changed his destiny.

"Thank you so much, Xiaohan."

......

At the foot of White Bear Mountain, a biting wind howled and heavy snow fell.

The tents originally intended for treating the wounded were now teetering on the brink of collapse under the weight of the thick snow. The temporary supplies stored there were scattered and toppled by the fierce winds. Despite these harsh conditions, most people remained steadfast, showing no sign of retreat.

They huddled together, forming a solid human wall with their bodies. This human wall was like an impregnable fortress, resisting the onslaught of the gale and the bitter cold.

Behind this human wall formed by brave individuals, the engineering team members were working diligently. Taking advantage of this rare sheltered passage, they were racing against time to carry out secondary circuit repairs.

Will followed a squadron of soldiers, struggling to unload essential survival supplies from a transport helicopter that had nearly crashed. The howling wind stung their skin like knives, as if to tear them apart. Will wiped his icy glasses, but the cold seemed to have seeped into his bones, making his fingers stiff.

"This is never going to end!" He gritted his teeth, fiercely venting his anger. However, the raging wind instantly drowned out his voice, as if mocking his powerlessness and helplessness. Leaving only one after another resolute figure.

He couldn't accept the cruel reality—failure. This heavy blow might even render all his previous efforts futile. The enormous costs behind this success were already countless, but the group desperately needed this success to prove its strength and gain more resources and opportunities; and for him personally, it was even more important to use this globally impactful achievement to realize the dreams and goals he had pursued throughout his life.

However, just when everyone was doing their best and struggling to survive, something unexpected happened: the raging blizzard that had been so fierce and all-encompassing began to gradually weaken without anyone noticing...

A mysterious and unpredictable force quietly emerged, seemingly possessing endless magic, dispelling the extremely harsh weather. The hazy fog was gently parted as if by an unseen giant hand, and the long-awaited warm sunlight slowly rose from the other side of the snow-capped mountain, softly illuminating the striking "SOS" symbol on the snow.

"The blizzard has stopped!"

The people in the camp could no longer contain their excitement and joy, eagerly throwing their stiff, immobile bodies into the warm embrace of the sun. Several soldiers looked up at the sky, occasionally letting out gasps of amazement. This astonishing sight quickly spread throughout the camp, and some even began to pray devoutly to the sky.

Wei put his glasses back on and followed everyone's gaze. There, a figure in a magnificent uniform woven with black, blue, and gold, defied the laws of gravity, gracefully hovering above the camp's main gate. The dazzling sunlight enveloped her slender, elegant body, making her appear like a goddess descended from the heavens. A large, striking inverted triangle was printed on the chest of her uniform, and her flowing hair added to her dashing and heroic air.

Although Wei was a complete novice, he rubbed his eyes in disbelief, wondering if he was seeing things. However, the scene before him remained unchanged—Anar Lefebvre was slowly descending from the sky.

She moved with such grace, her toes barely touching the ground, as if she came from another world. Wei couldn't help but think of legendary elves or angels. Lefie's appearance caused a stir among the people in the makeshift camp. Their eyes widened, their faces showing surprise and shock, and they began whispering amongst themselves.

Unaffected by the surrounding noise, she walked straight to the front of the crowd, her gaze sweeping over each person. Then, in a clear and firm voice, she said:

"Who's the boss here?"
