Chapter 152: The Decisive Battle in the Capital (Part 2)
The sea in Shenzhen is never a gentle blue.
As the eye of the leaden storm drew ever closer, towering waves gnawed at the rusted breakwater blocks. Neon signs convulsed in the gale, their advertising slogans for "Global Electronic Components Hub" torn to shreds and plunged into the nearshore waters littered with silicone waste.
Raindrops mixed with ice crystals. On the roof of an abandoned SMT placement machine factory on Fifth Avenue, a dying temperature and humidity sensor suddenly went off. The plummeting value exploded in blue light on the screen.
The torrential rain condensed into sleet at the critical point of minus twelve degrees Celsius, and the sound of it hitting the glass curtain wall transformed from drumbeats into shattered silver. The towers of the cross-sea bridge were the first to be covered in ice armor, and the cable stays trembled as they flung out rime.
Serafina got goosebumps all over her body; the sudden drop in temperature had brought her to a critical point.
They all looked in unison at the enormous silhouette behind the ice mist in the distance. The road shook, and one by one the streetlights went out. Then, a pair of enormous antlers emerged from the floating, colorful school of fish.
"Roar--"
The port's gantry crane was overturned and broken in two, and a milky white turbulence of snow poured out from between the containers...
The ball of azure flames shattered the ground, blazing light spreading from her chest down her back. With a sweep of her giant hand, rows of shipping containers were crushed into scrap metal. On her back, Naya stood tall, her pupils burning like a sun's corona.
Zhao Lin had never felt so happy in her life. She couldn't hide the smile on her face and laughed loudly in the rain.
The dumpling furiously pounded the land, increasing its speed and carrying Naya as it charged toward Serafina with unstoppable momentum.
Serafina, not to be outdone, leaped onto the ruins ahead, her golden antlers erupting with apocalyptic thunderstorms. The energy within them, frozen for years, still surged.
The freezing rays blasted out from between the two corners of the dumpling, piercing through glass and steel bars, the fragments of which froze in mid-air, turning into a hailstorm flying backwards.
"Abu! Go help Zhao Lin!" Naya plunged her sword into the icicle beside her, and using the upward force of the dumpling's head, she charged into the front of the deer cavalry formation, slashing like a whirlwind.
On the main battlefield, Serafina and Tuanzi clashed, their combined power from the former gods creating a high-pressure vacuum. Rain within a hundred meters was blasted away, and schools of fish pierced through Tuanzi's body, awakening her lava form. Every inch of her skin cracked and reformed under the intense heat, like a star exploding in the deep sea.
"Abu!" Zhao Lin called out as she watched it run towards her from afar.
Abu cleverly jumped to Zhao Lin's feet and positioned himself to protect her, separating Xiao Ke from Zhao Lin.
"Now that things have come to this, do you still want to lecture me? Zhao Lin?" Xiao Ke showed no fear, and even took a few steps forward.
“I never imagined… that what destroyed you wasn’t Sunset, but these Deer Clan rioters—” Zhao Lin cracked her knuckles and picked up a broken water pipe from the ground as a weapon. “Getting close to An Han and me is probably the most unbearable thing you’ve ever experienced.”
“No,” she denied. “You are much more difficult to deal with than An Han. I have tried to kill you by other means more than once.”
"But..."
Xiao Ke suddenly gave a wicked smile, and quietly reached into his coat pocket, grasping something.
"It's not too late to kill you now!"
She swiftly drew the Xiuzhen revolver she had prepared beforehand and fired several shots in Zhao Lin's direction.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Twisted bullets rolled to the ground, flattened into pancake shapes. Zhao Lin remained standing still, coldly watching the excited Xiao Ke.
The light green shimmered in the rain, completely enveloping Zhao Lin and Abu. The revolver bullets failed to penetrate the protective layer of Abu's armor. Xiao Ke, who was in a hurry to empty the magazine, hesitated for a moment, then dropped the gun and ran.
Unexpectedly, a strong arm reached out from behind, tightly locking her in place as she tried to escape.
With her helmet gone, An Han, her hair disheveled, emerged from the darkness of the ruins, clutching a large-caliber pistol. The muzzle grazed Xiao Ke's face, moving to her temple.
"Ugh! Little...Little Han?" Xiao Ke was terrified.
It seemed the other party wasn't planning to let her off so easily. An Han slowly brought her lips to her ear, just like when they first met.
"You little slut, you've had a good time these past few days, so it's time to get going, isn't it?" An Han's aura made Xiao Ke tremble with fear. The latter frantically tore at her arms, pleading for mercy incessantly.
"No...no! Sister Anhan! I—"
"Pfft!!"
Xiao Ke's head turned into a crimson blood sphere in front of Zhao Lin. She forced herself not to look and turned her body in another direction.
"Cough cough."
When An Han, covered in blood, stood before her, Zhao Lin, who had been suppressing her resentment, let out a frustrated roar at the chaotic night sky.
"These deer people won't stop. We have to teach them a lesson." An Han loaded all the bullets she had left into the gun, clearly prepared to fight the enemy to the death.
Hearing An Han's words, Zhao Lin felt a pang of sorrow. Yes, how could her clever tongue possibly persuade these bloodthirsty deer tribesmen to stop?
Behind the crumbling brick wall, a disheveled Salta stumbled towards Zhao Lin and her group with the few remaining soldiers. Each soldier was wounded to varying degrees, some even seriously injured, but the soldiers showed no sign of retreating.
"Is this all the people you have?" He looked around. This number of people was like a mantis trying to stop a chariot in front of the Deer Clan's regular army and the Templar Knights.
"Salta, have you made contact with your fleet?" Zhao Lin asked, eager for an answer. However, she was met only with a chilling silence…
“Right now, we are the only ones who know the situation here best. Simply having the military use firearms probably won’t solve the problem.” An Han, with a confidence that seemed to come from nowhere, turned the tide of the conversation.
"We need to find a way to take that thing back, or destroy it."
All eyes turned upwards, landing on the golden antlers that moved with Serafina.
The war of the gods continues.
……
Sparks flew from the burning building, Naya's boots treading over the charred bricks, her longsword slicing through the smoke and fire. She raised her arm, the chains around her wrist pinning three charging deer warriors to a wrecked fire truck, the stench of burnt flesh mingling with thick smoke and exploding in the air.
The flame at his fingertips suddenly trembled.
Three hundred paces away, in the center of the fire, a familiar figure burst through the smoke and came into view. Sharp was fighting with the cavalry, piercing the throats of enemies with wooden clubs, and the blood droplets rolling down her arm reflected the golden light dancing in her pupils.
The moment he turned around, Naya saw the stars shatter in his eyes.
"Sizzle—boom—"
The melting building suddenly showered countless specks of light. Naya flashed forward, taking the fatal blow for him. Her sword-wielding hand cleaved the flowing energy in two.
The scorching rays heated her armor to a fever pitch, causing the engraved patterns on it to shimmer. When the attack ended, Naya simply blew away the wisps of smoke rising from her arm guards, completely unharmed.
"Little...Little Na?!" After confirming the identity of the beautiful figure, Sharp moved his hands away from his front and exclaimed.
Ignoring Naya's still-scorching armor, the water droplets on his hands evaporated into a misty white vapor the moment they touched her waist. The fragrance of caramel and amber wafted from Naya's hair—the scent of rebirth after being baptized in the flames.
It's a really strong liquor that makes you dizzy.
"You've changed... How did you grow so tall all of a sudden?" Sharp's thumb pressed against the side of her neck, where deer-like markings ran along her skin. "You used to be so small."
Naya said nothing, biting into the skin beneath his tattered neck guard with her sharp canine teeth. Flesh and blood whimpered softly between her teeth. Golden flames climbed up his back from their pressed waists, melting the incoming arrows into molten iron in mid-air.
She left a fairly obvious bite mark on his neck, as if she wanted to vent her dissatisfaction with him because of some behind-the-scenes matter.
Then, Naya licked away the bloodstains from his wound, tasting the rusty flavor of the rainy night at Bear Ridge that she remembered: "You liar, do you really enjoy lying to me so much...?" Naya's voice, scorched by the flames, was hoarse and alluring, "If you do this again, don't blame me for chaining you up."
The longsword fell to the ground with a crisp sound. Sharp's blood-stained hand ran through her flowing, fiery red hair. In the distance, the Templars' horns sounded as they assembled, but at this moment, their world consisted only of the light dust dancing between their breaths.
"If only something could melt frozen tears,"
"That must be your gentleness,"
So please don't give up,"
"The tomorrow you see in your dream."
"Have you stuck them on enough? If you have, let go of my sister's waist." A voice with a sense of idle sarcasm came from above. Sharp didn't even need to guess who it was.
Naling, with a woman who was also an acquaintance in her arms, floated down from mid-air and stood steadily between Sharp and Naya.
Su Luo was clearly terrified by the high-speed flight just now, and collapsed the moment his legs touched the ground.
Ignoring Sharp, Naling seemed to focus her attention on Naya, standing before her with a somewhat scrutinizing expression.
Unbeknownst to Sharp, he sensed an unusual tension emanating from the sisters' confrontation...
"Recurring, cyclical,"
"No matter how many times tragedy repeats itself,"
"It will return to the starting point again."
"You've figured it out? You're not going to keep hiding in your room, or even dreaming about him anymore?" Na Ling didn't care about saving face for her sister and directly mocked her in front of Sharp.
“I know you look down on me, but I won’t give it up so easily, sister.” Naya took a step forward, almost touching Naling. “If you want it, come and take it yourself.”
“Hehe… little girl.” Na Ling glanced at Sharp, looking at him as if to say, “How can you possibly win against me?”
"I keep searching, I'm still searching,"
"Finding only that true hope,"
"Smash everything, destroy all things,"
"Until everything is reset to zero."
