Chapter 153: The Decisive Battle in the Capital
Chapter 153: The Decisive Battle in the City (Part 2)
"It's time to fight to the death, everyone! The golden antlers are rising—"
Naling kicked over the heavily armored soldier blocking her way and spotted Serafina ascending into the sky above Deep City with the golden antlers.
"What does she want to do?" Su Luo fiddled with the remote control device in his hand, trying to activate the Heavenly Fire here.
Sharp climbed to a high point, peering through the wreckage at a corner of the grand ceremony. This light became the only source of illumination in the dark city, but everyone seemed uncomfortable under its direct rays. "Let the golden antlers fly high enough before dropping them to the ground. As far as I know... the energy reaction is comparable to dropping a nuclear bomb in the center of Deep City," he explained.
Naya, holding the knight's longsword, came to Naling's side and returned it to the person who truly deserved it.
Naling readily accepted, and then took the opportunity to pull out the Blood Robe that Sharp had left behind at the bottom of the wormhole from her waist to exchange for it. She had just retrieved it on her return journey.
"These young men never know how to cherish the weapons they have." With sword and shield combined, Na Ling finally regained his former prowess in both offense and defense. Meanwhile, Na Ya had somehow acquired a longbow and was nocking an arrow to test its feel.
"Haven't used it in a long time, the accuracy is probably gone." With a sigh, Naya picked up the Blood Robe and waved it around a couple of times.
"Don't say that, Na, you can't do team fights without a marksman." Sharp's uniquely joking voice came from behind.
These words almost made Su Luo and Na Ling burst out laughing, but Na Ya stared blankly at Sharp, her delicate eyebrows furrowed.
The commotion attracted more cavalry to surround them. At the end of the ruined street, Mus led the Templar Knights, who were already waiting there, with the Golden Antlers aimed at the area where they were about to crash...
Fanny, perched on the wolf's back, kept watch on Sharp and Naling from a distance of a hundred meters. Musk wiped the blood from the corner of his eye, waiting for the enemy to launch their final attack.
"Did they notice us?" Yitong asked.
“I think so, it seems unavoidable.” Yevkov remained excited about it. He seemed to already see what the final outcome would be.
"It's probably going to be hard for the four of us to get through... no, to be precise, it's only three of us." Na Ling stood at the head of the group, looking at Mu Si with the same expression. This made Su Luo very unhappy, but it was the truth. Without activating the Heavenly Fire, they couldn't get any effective replenishment of combat power.
"In case Serafina razes the entire city to the ground during her breakout attempt, we need someone who can get out of here quickly—"
“I have a special ability that I might be able to try.” Before the words were finished, Sharp volunteered. “But I need enough stamina. I can’t participate in too many battles, or it will become ineffective.”
Few noticed the tremor in his voice. Na Ling could roughly guess what skill Sharp was referring to, after all, she had almost lost to him because of it not long ago.
Naya used her arm armor to deflect the arrows coming from all directions, then circled around behind Sharp and dragged him to the back of a dilapidated taxi.
Her eyes were filled with confusion, as if Sharp had just escaped from an asylum.
“I know what you want to say, Naya.” Sharp pressed his hands firmly against the car door, still warm from the fire, his hands gripping her shoulders tightly. “You’ve always been the one protecting me, but sometimes…” He choked on his words, but Naya knew better than anyone that Sharp was trying to hide his fear.
"Boys also want to show off in front of the girls they like."
"..."
She kept her thoughts to herself, listening quietly to his request. Hadn't it always been this way? We trusted each other, supported each other.
Sharp picked up the blood-stained robe, ran his fingers over the steel stamp on it, and cut his finger with the blade, letting the blood drip onto the sword. Then, his eyes hardened, and he commanded Naya:
"Now, I want you to cleave through all obstacles in my path until I shatter the Golden Antlers with my own hands. Can you do it, knight?"
“Of course, my master…”
Naya bowed her head, reverently accepted the blood-stained robe, and held it upright in front of her. She dipped her hands in Sharp's blood and used it to trace the deer markings on her face.
The contract has taken effect.
"Follow my instructions. Prioritize protecting Sharp and do everything you can to get him across—" Naling jumped over a row of destroyed roadblocks and landed in front of a wide enough crossroads, opposite the position of Mus and the others.
They were waiting for the person opposite to obediently walk in.
Naling and Naya nodded to each other and stood on either side of Sharp. This familiar tacit understanding had been rediscovered by the two sisters after more than a decade.
The sound of a car engine interrupted the impending battle. As the engine noise gradually subsided, Na Ling turned around and saw An Han and Zhao Lin sitting on the wrecked car seats.
"Your package has arrived," An Han said, pretending to speak through a non-existent windshield.
Abu crawled out from beside Zhao Lin's legs and squatted between the two. Salta, in the back seat, kicked open the half-open car door and came to the front of the car.
“What a long day…” he complained, switching his spear to full-auto mode. “And I’ll definitely regret it.”
Zhao Lin, whose head was wrapped in bandages, felt somewhat ashamed, but she still forced herself to stand shoulder to shoulder with Naya.
"I thought you weren't coming," she said, trying to sound calm.
"Thank you, Zhao Lin." This sudden gratitude caught Zhao Lin off guard. Naya looked thoughtfully at the blood-stained robe in her hand, then turned to look at her.
"Your words are indeed very damaging; the Daily News's top mouth truly lives up to its reputation."
This bizarre praise made Zhao Lin blush, unable to tell whether it was a sarcastic compliment or a veiled insult.
A moment later, they saw Tuanzi suddenly turn a corner and appear to the north... followed by growing icicles. As she turned, the stairs at the street corner were smashed to pieces.
"The show is about to begin!" Abu shouted, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.
The mountain god shrunk his body, transformed into human form, and nimbly landed in the center of the crowd, moving to the very front under the watchful eyes of everyone around him.
Despite the distance, the murderous aura on both sides was unmistakable. Mus raised a hand, ready to give an order at any moment.
All the deer people in the city suddenly stopped and began to gather around Sharp. The remaining resistance force in Deep City looked around, and it was the first time that the few of them had cooperated in battle.
“That talking cat, I don’t think that’s anything to brag about,” Su Luo replied, smoothing her stray hairs.
"Quiet, guys. Whether we can hold onto Shenzhen depends on us now, so give them a good beating." Na Ling briefly took over leadership of the squad, and finally, almost imploringly, she pounded her fist on Sharp's chest, saying:
"Especially you, kid, take bigger steps later, or you'll fall over!"
“Got it, Captain America,” Sharp winked at her, assuring her.
"Then—let's go!"
Naling assumed a fighting stance, glaring at the temple knights opposite him, and jogged forward to accelerate.
Mus swung his greatsword, and the knights beside him charged forward, clashing with Naling and the others.
Tuanzi unfurled its wings of light and floated up. Together with Naling, it broke free from the ranks and wiped out a large portion of the approaching cavalry.
The arrow, imbued with shimmering energy, grazed Fanny's face. She bent low, leaping from the wolf's back and lunging at Naya. Naya, unperturbed, slid into Faro's lower abdomen and fired another arrow into his exposed back…
“Here he is!” Having learned his lesson from last time, Abu no longer kept his distance from Yevkov, who was being suppressed by Salta’s gunfire. Abu then charged at Yevkov’s unarmored abdomen with all his might.
"vomit--"
Before he could finish vomiting, An Han's long leg swept across his face, almost breaking his back gums.
"Hey! Dr. Su, lend a hand!" she shouted into the crowd.
Bypassing the chaotic battlefield, Su Luo threw the stun gun, which he had converted from a control device, to An Han. The latter dodged Yi Tong's stun baton and pressed it hard against An Han's thigh.
This one has much more power than the one I have. Yi Tong screamed and collapsed to the ground, convulsing.
"Roar!!"
A shadow flashed behind her, and An Han rolled to the side, dodging Lu Shu's powerful blow from behind. She took out a high-concentration gas synthesized by Zi Xing from her belt and shook it vigorously twice.
"The concentration is just right, worth a taste." She pried open the magazine of the launcher and fired a gas airburst into Lu Shu's face.
Losing its sight, the Deer-like creature dropped its pickaxe and pounded the ground wildly with its arms. What awaited it next was a low uppercut from Na Ling, who appeared in a flash. The Deer-like creature's teeth shattered in its mouth, and its body flipped backward.
A chilling blue light burst forth from between the two horns of the dumpling, freezing the air in its path into a frost-crystal galaxy. Before the astonished expressions of the soldiers in the front ranks had faded, their flesh and blood bodies had already transformed into sharply defined ice walls—a frigid prison barrier composed of thirty-seven human ice sculptures.
Boom!
Moose unleashed a sonic boom, his runic greatsword crackling with crimson lightning as it slashed down. The ice barrier shattered, the flying ice fragments coalescing in mid-air into sharp ice spikes that flew back. The general swung his arm, dispersing the rain of ice; the greatsword spun three times in his palm before transforming into a torrent of liquid metal, its silvery-mercury blade suddenly expanding sevenfold, whistling as it slashed towards the girl's slender neck.
Clang!
The metallic groan made everyone else's eardrums bleed. The blade, which should have been cutting through thorns, hovered over the girl's snow-white skin, and fine ice cracks spread wildly from the point of contact. Mus's pupils contracted sharply. He saw the sparks generated by the high-frequency vibrations of the sword condense into countless crimson ice particles the instant they touched the girl's hair, and they fell down in a flurry.
&34; Chirp, whoosh~ &34;
Tuanzi's fingertips traced the scorching blade. The liquid metal instantly froze into a winding ice sculpture, ice crystals climbing up the hilt to Mus's gilded arm armor. She parted her cherry lips slightly and exhaled a frosty breath, causing cracks to appear all over Mus's armor.
When the weapon that had accompanied him in slaughtering countless rebellious deer tribes turned to icy dust in the girl's hand, Mus finally sensed the impending doom. But before his nerves could register the fear, Tuanzi's slender white fingers clenched tightly. The entire battlefield seemed to hang in the balance, and Mus was thrown into the air…
The freezing ray pierced straight through his entire shoulder, passing through the reinforced concrete behind him and cutting through half of the city. The last thing Mus saw, unable to move, was the girl spinning in mid-air, with thousands of ice crystals weaving an aurora crown in her hair.
Tuanzi's fist slammed into Musi's heart, sending the dying man tumbling into the ground.
A shockwave of icy blue spread out in a ring. As the dust settled, at the bottom of the sinkhole, which was tens of meters in diameter, Mu Si's mangled body was being impaled and nailed to the ground by wildly growing ice shards. Tuanzi touched the ground with her toes and arrived at the edge of the sinkhole, behind her twelve ice wheels formed from blizzard frost slowly turning.
Zhao Lin, who witnessed this tragic scene, was thankful that Tuanzi was on her side.
"Has she always been this strong?" Salta pointed at the mountain god, somewhat dumbfounded. The expression on his face gradually changed from surprise to fear.
"So you don't want to piss her off," Zhao Lin muttered.
