Chapter 21 Subduing the Shrine
Sakayanagi Arisu led the students of Class A toward Class C, but just as they were about to reach Class C's classroom, she suddenly stopped. Her brows furrowed slightly, as if she were contemplating some important decision.
"Sakayanagi, what's wrong?" Kito noticed Sakayanagi's hesitation, his voice low and revealing a hint of concern.
Sakayanagi turned around to face her classmates, a resolute glint in her eyes: "We're not going to Class C, we're going straight to Class B."
Hashimoto's face showed a puzzled expression; he didn't understand why Sakayanagi had suddenly changed his plans. He was about to ask when Kito had already sided with Sakayanagi. Kito's trust forced Hashimoto to swallow his question, despite his many doubts.
"But, Sakayanagi, shouldn't we go to Class C first?" Hashimoto finally couldn't help but ask, his voice tinged with confusion.
Sakayanagi glanced at Hashimoto, her eyes revealing an unwavering determination: "I have my reasons. Trust me, this will be the best choice for us."
Kito didn't ask any further questions; he simply nodded, indicating his support for Sakayanagi's decision. His actions made Hashimoto realize that there was a certain degree of tacit understanding between Sakayanagi and Kito, and he knew that his questioning might disrupt that understanding.
Hashimoto remained silent, choosing to trust Sakayanagi's judgment. Although he had doubts, he knew that trust and cooperation were key to success within this team. He decided to temporarily set aside his doubts and follow Sakayanagi's leadership.
Sakayanagi led the group towards Class B, her steps firm and powerful. She already had a new plan in mind, a plan she believed would bring them closer to their goal.
Sakayanagi Arisu led the students from Class A to Class B's classroom, only to find Kanzaki Takaji sitting there listlessly. Sakayanagi walked over and greeted Kanzaki in a familiar tone: "Kanzaki-kun, I didn't expect you weren't assigned to Class A."
Kanzaki looked up and saw Sakayanagi. His expression was calm as he addressed her by her name, "Sakayanagi." Then, seeing that she was still staring intently at him, he replied helplessly, "Uncle Sakayanagi is worried that I'm an undercover agent sent by Ayanokouji-sensei, so how could he let me get close to you? That's fine, I'm also afraid of trouble, so just don't bother me."
They looked very familiar with each other, clearly not the first time they had met.
Sakayanagi didn't want to discuss this matter with him in front of them, so he directly avoided the topic and asked instead, "Kansaki-kun, do you know about your homeroom teacher's special ability?"
Kanzaki raised an eyebrow slightly and asked, "Sakayanagi, you just told me about your class's assessment task like that, do you think I'll waver?"
Sakayanagi chuckled softly, her voice tinged with a hint of mockery: "Anyway, you can get information from that devil over there, so what's the point of my cover-up? I just didn't expect Kanzaki-kun to accept Class B so quickly and be willing to work for Class B."
Kito was somewhat surprised to hear this. He didn't know why Sakayanagi thought he would leak information, but he didn't ask any further questions and just stood quietly to the side. Hashimoto looked at them thoughtfully, as if he was pondering something.
Kanzaki shrugged, his expression remaining calm: "Sakayanagi, you know my personality. I will never act unless necessary, so you don't need to consider me at all. Since you've already tried, you should understand that I would never say anything, so why bother explaining further?"
Sakayanagi smiled helplessly: "It's really boring to have someone who knows about my superpowers."
But are you so sure that others won't betray information?
Kanzaki smiled calmly and said confidently, "How about we make a bet? We'll bet whether the students in Class B will tell you."
If I win, you're not allowed to use your special ability in the next assessment.
Sakayanagi accepted the bet with great interest: "If I win, then Kanzaki-kun will have to do me a favor later."
Kanzaki calmly agreed, seemingly certain that he would not lose: "Then it's settled."
After leaving Class B classroom, Kito and Hashimoto both had questions written all over their faces.
Hashimoto was filled with curiosity about the relationship between Sakayanagi, Kanzaki, and the Ayanokouji-sensei that Kanzaki had mentioned.
Kito, on the other hand, was puzzled by Sakayanagi's belief that he would leak information.
Kito couldn't help but speak first: "Sakayanagi, why do you say that Kanzaki would know the content of our assessment from me?"
Sakayanagi turned around to face Kito, her eyes revealing a hint of seriousness: "Kito, your mental strength is relatively weak, and Kanzaki's ability can easily probe your mental sea. You probably can't defend against his probe."
Gui Tou frowned, realizing that his weakness might affect the entire class's assessment.
He nodded, indicating his understanding: "I understand. I will unseal the spirits in my spiritual sea later."
Hashimoto couldn't help but interject, his voice tinged with inquiry: "Sakayanagi, what exactly is the relationship between you, Kanzaki, and Ayanokouji-sensei whom he mentioned?"
Sakayanagi's expression shifted slightly; she didn't want to elaborate on this issue.
She replied calmly, "Hashimoto, there are some things you don't need to know. Our goal is to pass the assessment; nothing else matters."
A hint of disappointment flashed in Hashimoto's eyes, but he understood Sakayanagi's authority, so he didn't press further and simply nodded silently.
Afterwards, Sakayanagi didn't rush to ask the students in Class B for answers, but decided to return to Class A first. She knew that some things required more information and planning before they could proceed.
Back in Class A, Sakayanagi quickly noticed Kamuro Masumi sitting in her seat. A smile appeared on her face as she waved for Kito and Hashimoto to leave first, while she walked towards Kamuro with great interest.
After she approached her seat, Kamuro glared at her resentfully and said with some annoyance, "You conspired with him to scheme against me?"
Sakayanagi was somewhat surprised. She didn't answer directly, but instead said in a relaxed tone, "Oh, so Kamuro-kun has an accomplice. Could you tell me?" As she spoke, she moved closer to Kamuro, her eyes flashing with an inscrutable smile.
Kamuro Masumi looked at Sakayanagi warily, knowing that she was in a bad situation.
He tried to steal something from her seat, and not only was he confined to her seat by the binding talisman, he also blurted out Ito Sawa's existence.
Judging from her reaction, she was completely unaware of Ito Sawa's existence; she had been presumptuous in her own way.
She felt no remorse for exposing Ito Sawa, since he had nothing to do with her. However, she couldn't just expose him; that would be too embarrassing in front of Sakayanagi.
So she stubbornly shut her mouth, turned her head away, and remained silent.
Seeing Kamuro's reaction, Sakayanagi's smile deepened.
Kamuro Masumi is a key pawn. Her special ability is very useful to me. I couldn't find an opportunity to lure her into a trap, but she actually took the initiative to cause me trouble.
What's even more unexpected is that it seems she was actually acting under someone else's orders.
That's really interesting.
Sakayanagi decides that she needs to learn more about Kamuro and her "accomplices" behind the scenes.
“Kamuro-kun, we don’t have to be enemies,” Sakayanagi said softly, her voice carrying a hint of seduction. “Tell me about your accomplices, and we can cooperate.”
Masumi Kamuro was silent for a moment, then coldly replied, "I have no accomplices. I just did what I wanted to do."
Sakayanagi didn't refute, but nodded in a pretentious manner. "If Kamuro-kun is willing to stay stuck in my seat and be laughed at by everyone, I have no objection."
Kamuro turned around angrily and glared at Sakayanagi, but Sakayanagi remained standing there with a gentle smile, waiting for her attitude to change.
The contrast between Masumi Kamuro's resentment and Arisu Sakayanagi's composure was striking. Sakayanagi's eyes gleamed with an air of confidence; she knew Kamuro's ability was a valuable resource, and it now seemed that someone might be manipulating Kamuro's actions.
"Kamuro-kun, do you really want to continue like this?" Sakayanagi's voice was gentle, but carried an undeniable pressure. "You and I both know that continuing like this will not do you any good."
A flicker of struggle crossed Kamuro Masumi's eyes; she knew her situation was precarious. Sakayanagi Arisu's influence and intelligence put pressure on her, and she also knew that if things continued this way, her standing in the class might plummet.
And so, under Sakayanagi's leisurely gaze, Kamuro finally gave in, "Fine...okay, I can tell you." There was a hint of helplessness in her voice, "But you must promise not to let anyone else know."
Sakayanagi nodded, a hint of satisfaction in her smile: "Of course, Kamuro-kun, I promise."
Kamuro took a deep breath and then said in a low voice, "It was a boy who told me that I could steal from students so the school wouldn't care. So... unfortunately, I don't know his name, but... if I run into him again, I'll recognize him."
Sakayanagi felt slightly bored, but quickly cheered up. She touched Kamuro and placed a restriction on her, but it wasn't to bind her soul or body; rather...
"Alright, from now on, I'll trouble you, Kamuro-kun, to be my walking stick."
Remember to pick me up from my dorm every morning. Otherwise, the suppressed spirit-binding talisman might activate again!
If gazes had warmth, Sakayanagi would surely have been burned through by Kamuro by now. But unfortunately, Sakayanagi was completely unaware of this. With just a slight twitch of her fingers, Kamuro felt the restriction loosen as soon as she stood up. She quickly composed herself and adopted a respectful demeanor, "I...I am willing to be...your...walking stick."
