Chapter 20 Class A's Assessment
Meanwhile, on the morning after the opening ceremony, the students of Class A had just met their homeroom teacher, Majima.
He was tall and thin, with a cold face and eyes that exuded an unapproachable aura. He greeted the students briefly.
"Your homeroom teacher is Tomoya Mashima. You can just call me Mr. Mashima."
Then he got straight to the point: "Your assessment task," Majima's voice was calm and clear, echoing in the classroom, "is to determine the special abilities of the four class homeroom teachers."
He paused, seemingly considering whether to provide more information. In the end, he decided to give a hint: "The abilities of our four homeroom teachers are all in the Ability Handbook, so you can first learn about the manifestations of these abilities, and then investigate them using your own methods."
The students below the stage began to whisper among themselves, exchanging glances as they pondered the difficulty of the task and possible strategies.
Just then, Arisu Sakayanagi suddenly spoke up. Although her voice was soft, it was enough to quiet the entire classroom.
“Since you are our homeroom teacher, Mr. Mashima,” Arisu Sakayanagi said, looking directly at Mashima, “could you tell us about your special ability first?”
Majima glanced at Sakayanagi Arisu, a hint of admiration flashing in his eyes.
He thought for a moment, then replied, "My ability is indeed the hardest to guess, but if you've already guessed the other three teachers' abilities, I can tell you mine directly. So, you should guess the other three teachers' abilities first."
Sakayanagi Arisu nodded, and she began to assign different tasks to the students in the class.
Most of the students in Class A knew about their special abilities, and those who didn't were quickly identified through the group's assessment. Only a few students, such as Sakayanagi, had their abilities not detected.
Sakayanagi even seemed to have no special abilities, and many classmates secretly speculated that she was assigned to Class A because of Sakayanagi, the school's chairman.
However, given her status, few people objected to her arrangements, and they proceeded smoothly until she placed people from the Katsuragi faction in her care.
"Moon Palace classmate..."
Before she could even state their mission, and before Katsuragi could object, Yahiko jumped out, his voice laced with provocation: "Brother Katsuragi hasn't even spoken yet, what right do you, a cripple, have to make arrangements for us?"
Katsuragi immediately reprimanded Yahiko for his choice of words, "Yahiko, apologize to Sakayanagi-san."
Yahiko's face darkened. He was clearly unwilling to apologize, but under Katsuragi's stern gaze, he knew he had no choice.
He turned around to face Sakayanagi, his voice filled with obvious reluctance and contempt: "Sakayanagi-san, I apologize for what I said earlier."
Although his words appeared to be an apology, there was not a trace of remorse in his tone; instead, it sounded more like sarcasm.
Sakayanagi's face immediately darkened. She had deliberately arranged for the Katsuragi faction to send people because she had anticipated that Yahiko would object, but she still hadn't expected that Yahiko would hit her sore spot so precisely.
She hated it most when people talked about her being short or weak, and Yahiko even maliciously called her a cripple.
At this moment, Yahiko was already on her blacklist, and she would definitely get rid of this mean-spirited person as soon as she had the chance.
However, Sakayanagi Arisu quickly regained her composure, suppressed her emotions, and instead asked Katsuragi for his opinion: "Katsuragi-kun, do you have any suggestions?"
Katsuragi glanced at Yahiko, then at Sakayanagi Arisu, his eyes filled with apology: "Sakayanagi-san, I sincerely apologize to you again on Yahiko's behalf. However, I think we should focus on understanding the information in the Ability Manual before deciding how to assign tasks."
Sakayanagi Arisu nodded with a warm smile, showing no sign of anything amiss: "Then, you can start with the Ability Manual. Katsuragi-kun, you and your team will be responsible for collecting and analyzing the information in the manual, while I'll take my people to investigate the students in other classes, how about that?"
Katsuragi nodded in agreement. Sakayanagi Arisu continued assigning tasks to the other students, her tone calm, as if nothing had happened.
The members of the Sakayanagi faction sprang into action. Following her instructions, some of them went to other classes to investigate, while she, Kito, and Hashimoto went to investigate D.
After leaving the classroom, Kito's eyes revealed a hint of dissatisfaction as he said to Sakayanagi, "Sakayanagi-san, Yahiko offended you so much just now, and you let him off so easily. I really don't understand."
Sakayanagi stopped and turned to face Kito, her gaze calm yet resolute. "Kito, I know you're upset for me, but we have more important things to do right now." Her voice was calm, yet carried an undeniable authority. "Our goal is to complete the mission, not to dwell on personal grudges. Yahiko, I'll take care of him one day."
Although Kito still harbored resentment, he knew he had to obey Sakayanagi's decision. He nodded in understanding. "I understand, Sakayanagi. I will focus on the mission."
Sakayanagi smiled slightly and patted Kito on the shoulder to encourage him. "That's good. We're a team, and what we need now is unity and efficiency. We can deal with Yahiko's matter after the mission is over." With that, she led the way towards Class D's classroom, with Kito following closely behind. The two figures quickly disappeared around the corner of the corridor.
When they arrived at Class D, they first looked around but didn't see the class teacher. She politely introduced herself, intending to ask about their class. Unexpectedly, a red-haired boy rushed forward, brandishing his fist. The two boys beside him tried to stop him, but were intimidated by his supernatural abilities and dared not make a move.
Fortunately, Kito, who was beside Sakayanagi, intervened in time. He didn't even take off his white gloves and went straight to meet them.
A cruel smile appeared on the red-haired boy's face. He thought his flames could easily devour the ghost's gloves, or even his hands.
But reality was cruel. Kito's palm was as hard as steel, tightly enveloping Sudo's fist, and the flames were mercilessly extinguished the moment they made contact.
Although Kito was forced back a step by Sudo's power, there was no fear in his eyes, but rather his determination only grew stronger.
Sudo attempted to attack again, but Kito had already assumed a fighting stance, ready to remove his gloves and reveal his true strength.
Just then, Hirata Yosuke flicked his finger, and an invisible force swept through the air, forcing Kito and Sudo's attacks to an abrupt halt.
Kito's face showed surprise, but Sudo's eyes flashed with understanding. He knew that this was Hirata's doing. He turned his head angrily to glare at Hirata, but he could not resist the suppression of that power.
Hirata's face was pale, and sweat trickled down his temples. His voice, though weak, was clear to everyone: "Yosuke Hirata. I think we all know Sakayanagi-kun, so let's not waste time here. Please tell us directly why you're here."
Sakayanagi gave him a deep look, abandoned his attempt to beat around the bush, and asked directly about their homeroom teacher's whereabouts. Hirata said regretfully that he didn't know. Sakayanagi stood there in silence for a moment, then looked up at him again, this time with a hint of appreciation and regret in his eyes.
Then, she turned and left with the people from Class A. After walking a distance, the restraining abilities on her body naturally dissipated.
