Rebirth: Supreme Soul Master
Chapter 98 This is the family secret
“Klein, watch your words, or I swear I’ll have my grandpa beat you up later!” Berry retorted angrily as soon as the guy named Klein finished speaking.
Berry's attitude was known to everyone, especially her family, particularly those around her age.
She was known for her kindness towards the weak Soul Masters, porters, arrogant disciples, and other pitiful people. But she had never shown such a strong reaction before, to the point of requiring the intervention of her terrible and fragile grandfather.
“Berry…he…”
“Let’s all calm down.” William still felt a little guilty about the little lie he’d told earlier. He knew that the kids around Lang knew about it, which was why Klein was acting so aggressively.
William was the instigator of all this, but he had no way out at the time, so he could only distort the facts and not tell the truth: "After all, once the monster outbreak is over, I'll be going to class with Brother Lang."
"What did you say?!" This time, Lang's reaction was one of shock and disbelief. He glanced at William, his eyes filled with warning and threat.
The news that reached his ears was that William had been exonerated of treason and was now working for the Golden Sky Academy. But he had never heard of any sudden change in William's position at the academy.
Lang took William's words as a lie, yet another lie he had fabricated, just like the one he had told earlier.
“I promise you that,” but when Berry stood next to William, there was no room for further words.
Lang knew it was a crazy thing to do, practically impossible. But if Berry supported such a terrible and insane theory, he had no way to refute it, nor could he articulate his thoughts.
“Anyway, you’ll know the truth soon enough.” William didn’t reveal any more details, “but we have an urgent mission to complete right now.”
"Whose orders are we carrying out this mission?" Before William could continue, another child spoke up, but was silenced by Lang's sharp gaze.
"By order of me... the upcoming battle doesn't need low-grade Soul Masters like us, does it?" Berry said, wearing a veil of authority. Even the aura she exuded revealed her dignified demeanor, causing Lang Lang's lips to twitch slightly.
However, when he recalled the rumors circulating in his tribe about how Berry's illness had been cured, he gained some control over himself.
Even though she was around the same age as her, Berry always kept her distance from others. Therefore, Lang, like many others in the family and academy, was unaware of her true character.
“These are all Bronze-level and White-level Soul Masters… In such a large-scale battle, Soul Masters below the Bronze level have been ordered to leave the front lines and only guard the internal structures,” Berry said, her tone almost apologetic to William. We need to bring in a true expert.
“They will do a good job.” Contrary to her expectations, William glanced at the group and nodded with satisfaction.
He probably expected one or two of them to be silver-tier. But even if they weren't, he wasn't that disappointed.
What William needed most was a large number of Soul Masters. He knew that wanting more at this time was just wishful thinking.
This arrangement of Soul Masters further impressed him with the family's orderliness. Asking Bronze Soul Masters to fight a Level 3 monster outbreak? That was insane, tantamount to killing them.
"So, what are we doing here?" Lang had to ask, while casting a warning glance at his companions.
He didn't want any of them to suffer Berry's wrath again.
“I’ll explain soon,” William said, leading the small group, “but first tell me what you know about the Great Tide.” He paused, then turned to Berry and added, “Is there a place that designates the forging clan?”
“Of course, we have a big yard filled with ovens, anvils and everything needed for forging… but why?” William shifted the conversation away from the upcoming battle or the reason she had brought these Soul Masters here, which puzzled Bailey.
When she went to find Lang and other bronze-level soul masters, she thought William wanted them to form a small combat unit.
She believed that her long-held dream of becoming a hero, to lead an elite team into hordes of monsters, would finally come true.
“You’ll see when we get there,” William paused, then added, “You’re sure the ore and materials are there too, right?”
“This is a family secret.” Lang recovered from his surprise and indirectly reminded Berry that this was a serious mistake.
“There are no secrets for William,” but Berry’s impression of Lang wasn’t as good as William’s. Her tone was serious, yet tinged with a hint of provocation.
“I just need an answer.” William didn’t want to waste any more time and just wanted to get started on his plan.
“That’s enough.” Bailey’s gaze didn’t leave Lang, and Lang could only sigh inwardly.
This is the granddaughter of the terrifying clan chief, and logically speaking, she should be the future acting clan chief.
How could someone from a collateral branch of the family possibly oppose her decision? He tried his best to gently remind her that her actions just now showed that his work had been successful.
Besides, this wasn't his territory or anything he controlled or was responsible for. But he planned to tell the clan leaders what had happened here after the crisis was over.
