Rebirth: Supreme Soul Master
Chapter 24 Forging Arrows
“You’ll see for yourself soon,” William said, placing the dull ore on the table before moving on to something else. Contrary to Alina’s expectations, William wasn’t setting the ore on fire; he was doing something else entirely.
“These candles…” she murmured, looking at William’s liquefied candles. Soon, three jars were filled with the molten green liquid, illuminating the entire room in the dead of night.
"Do you need lighting while working? I have a higher-grade candle here." She took out a larger, thicker, dark green candle from her storage ring.
“No, I use it during the forging process.” William took another pot and filled it with dark red ore this time.
Once ignited, Elena couldn't help but call out her soul power in terror. Her deep-seated fear of these exploding ores acted reflexively.
But what she feared didn't happen! A miracle occurred; the ore liquefied successfully without any problems.
It took about ten minutes for all the ore to melt into a bright red liquid. William didn't rush to start hammering; instead, he carefully placed the jar on the ground, then took one of the three green liquid jars and slowly poured some into the crimson liquid.
A thick cloud of steam rushed toward him and quickly rose, filling part of the room. His face was slightly burned by the rising heat, and his hair appeared somewhat disheveled. However, this did not prevent Elena from witnessing another miracle.
The vibrant, red, melting ore, upon contact with the green liquid, began to spark like fireworks. Something in the green liquid seemed to be stimulating the melting, scarlet ore.
Alina didn't know what it was, but William did. Candles made of light materials were exceptionally effective at amplifying any spiritual energy-conducting substance, just like they were effective with spirit crystals.
However, this is not its only effect. It also has the ability to modulate any energy conduction. The candlelight makes the fierce, scarlet, vibrant minerals, which were slightly restrained by the clay material, smoother and more obedient.
This is like adding a second calming bonus to the vibrant, scarlet ore, preventing it from going berserk under any circumstances. Doing so ensures the safety of further forging processes, preventing any unforeseen accidents.
In the thick red fog, William reopened his wound, letting the blood splatter onto the mixture. Before the fog had cleared, he set the pot aside to cool, then grabbed another one.
He continued doing this for the next hour until he had melted everything. Not many candles were needed. Of the amount he had bought, about half was still left.
“It’s time to put it back on the heat.” He put the pot back on the heat and waited carefully for five minutes. He didn’t want the mixture to become liquid, but rather a semi-solid form.
Then he took it out, poured it onto the anvil, and began to hammer it.
He didn't have enough strength to hammer it accurately and effectively, so he used the same method as before. After spinning it a few times, he finally brought the hammer down, enough to purify the semi-solid mixture and release sparks in all directions while burning away the impurities.
Although it was just a simple hammering process, William didn't have enough strength and soul power to use the hammer effectively. Elena quickly noticed this.
"Let me help you." At this moment, Elena knew that this was William's weakness. His body was so fragile that it limited his cleaning abilities.
"Thank you." William knew his abilities were limited, but he didn't refuse to help. He stood aside and prepared other basins for her. Meanwhile, Alina began to demonstrate her status as one of the top five blacksmiths in the entire academy.
Each strike was delivered with all her might, causing the entire room to tremble under her fierce hammer blows. William watched her with envy, yearning for such power, and even more.
"Okay," after being hammered, cooled, and reheated, and this process was repeated more than ten times, the previously bright scarlet mixture with a few lines of green turned silver.
This change seemed somewhat unbelievable to Alina, but to William it was entirely expected. After all, the true color of the crimson ore wasn't actually crimson, but silver!
All the red color comes from impurities that have seeped into the ore from other minerals and soil. The first prepared portion remains in the fire again before it completely turns into a liquid.
Alina didn't continue working, and William knew why. She wanted to witness his final act before continuing to process the remaining crimson ore.
"Does it require special water for cooling?" She didn't think it was just a simple forging process. In her eyes, William might be making arrows, but these arrows cooled with ordinary water looked unusual.
“No need,” William said, but he knew it wouldn’t be wise to waste these resources on consumables. After all, thanks to Alina’s timely help, the forging process had gone more smoothly than he had expected.
Furthermore, using higher-grade cooling water wouldn't provide any boost to the arrows. Therefore, he calmly declined her offer.
What followed was the same as any normal forging process. He poured the molten mixture into the mold, then poured water from a large basin in the room evenly over the mold to cool it. Steam came out again, but this time it didn't last long.
After he finished forging the arrowheads, William simply flipped the mold to one side and then punched it. The fragments fell, and the arrowheads were ready to use.
"It contains such immense power... enough to injure a silver-level monster." Elena examined several arrows and expressed her surprise.
"Injured? Hmph, if these arrows are used well, they could fatally wound not only silver monsters... but even gold-level monsters! As for the silver arrows, they would have been blown to bits by the explosion long ago." William said smugly, without embracing them. He regained his composure.
After all, this was his job. How could he let Alina misjudge his arrow like that?
"Really?" Elena seemed a little doubtful. "Can I keep some for testing?"
“Take whatever you want.” William knew she wasn’t asking out of curiosity. She not only wanted to emulate his magnificent forging skills, but also wanted to showcase such a unique product to this master forger.
Otherwise, how could she have gotten these experts to agree to the deal she promised him?
