Chapter 28 The Otaku Dragon Transforms into a 2D Fanatic

All was quiet, and there was nothing particularly important to do. Bored, Wang Xiaoyi took his NDS out of his backpack, gently pressed the power button, and the familiar boot screen lit up. Although this machine was a model from many years ago, he was already grateful to be able to play it in this world.

Since I only have one cartridge for now, I'll replay Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008. It's actually a pretty old version. The Yu-Gi-Oh! series has released several installments since then, featuring many unique and charismatic protagonists. Characters like Yusei Fudo, who has appeared in later titles, haven't appeared in this 2008 version.

Looking at the current Chinese version of Duel Links, it offers all sorts of gameplay modes, which I'd say are overly flashy, with more and more cards and increasingly complex rules, making it dizzying. But Wang Xiaoyi has his own principles; he's devoted to the two main characters, Yugi Muto and Jaden Yuki. Perhaps this is just an indescribable sense of nostalgia.

As people get older, they often find themselves reminiscing about the games they played in their childhood. Just like those carefree days, simple games could bring endless joy. Nowadays, games are overflowing with all sorts of events and countless daily tasks, often designed to be incredibly tedious. Sometimes it feels like those games are meticulously crafted traps, using seemingly enticing rewards to lure players into constantly investing time and money. This blatant money-grabbing tactic is truly annoying.

Just as Wang Xiaoyi was engrossed in his game, he suddenly felt a pair of eyes staring intently at him like spotlights. It was the Fairy King Dragon (parrot form) that had returned. Its bright eyes curiously looked at the small box in Wang Xiaoyi's hand, as if it had discovered a new continent. It tilted its head first, then gently poked the NDS screen with its pointed beak, seemingly wanting to explore this magical little gadget. However, the screen was too small, making it inconvenient for it to fidget like that. So, it flapped its wings a few times and instantly transformed into human form. Before Wang Xiaoyi could react, it snatched the NDS away.

Wang Xiaoyi chuckled and began patiently explaining the various gameplay elements and fun aspects of the Yu-Gi-Oh! game to the Elemental King Dragon. Another card master was about to be born! As he spoke, he suddenly remembered that he hadn't been able to resist secretly taking a manga book—the first one about Yugi Muto. He thought that the Elemental King Dragon probably wasn't very familiar with the game yet, so it would be better to let him familiarize himself with the story and card effects by reading the manga first.

Thus, the atmosphere in the small hotel room became exceptionally warm. Two beds were placed side by side; Wang Xiaoyi sat on one bed playing with his NDS, while the Elf King Dragon (in human form) sat on the other bed reading a comic book. The Elf King Dragon read incredibly fast, like a gust of wind whistling through the pages, the comic book flipping rapidly before his eyes. In no time, he had finished a comic book, but clearly he hadn't had enough; his eyes gleamed with longing as he continued to ask Wang Xiaoyi for more comic books.

Wang Xiaoyi scratched his head helplessly, suddenly remembering the long-forgotten gratitude point lottery system. He had originally planned to save it up for the Lucky Day 3UP, but he didn't know which day was the Lucky Day, so he didn't care and just tried a few times to see if he could get the next manga book. Actually, he also wanted to relive the story. When he was a kid, he watched the anime version of Yu-Gi-Oh!, and it's said that the plot of the Yu-Gi-Oh! DM manga is very different. The DM anime opens with a card game, and soon after, Kaiba kidnaps his grandfather, wins against him, and tears up the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. In the anime, why did his grandfather have to be rushed to the hospital after losing a game? Actually, this is explained in the manga. This was the second duel between Yugi Muto and Kaiba. The first time, Kaiba lost the Dark Game and was punished by the Millennium Puzzle Dark Game—the Death Experience. The second time, Kaiba developed a virtual world to take revenge on Yugi Muto, so he made his grandfather experience the Abyss of Death, which scared his grandfather so much that he had a heart attack and was hospitalized. In the early days, Kaiba had a villainous face, and his image was quite ugly. Similar to a one-off villain who appears only once in the early chapters and then basically disappears, the author didn't expect that Duel Monsters cards would become so popular, especially this chapter of the manga, which unexpectedly had high popularity. Therefore, the villain Kaiba was forced to reappear, beginning his endless revenge—you could call it destiny.

Here's an interesting tidbit about manga: Early manga often started with authors just drawing whatever they wanted. Once they found sponsors or gained some fame, they started paying attention to the content and its social impact. Kazuki Takahashi actually drew several versions of Yu-Gi-Oh! early on, including muscular characters and skilled gamers—I can't remember the specific names—before finally getting the starfish-headed Yugi Muto. He was only halfway through when KONAMI took notice, and that's how it gradually developed into what it is today. Many early manga were like this; initially, they drew anything to attract readers, especially anything suggestive or dark. Later, once they gained popularity or were noticed, they stopped using those gimmicks. Early Crayon Shin-chan dialogue was quite erotic and unsuitable for children, and the same goes for Dragon Ball.

Getting back to the main point, before the lottery, we should first exchange some delicious treats for the Elf King Dragon (in human form) to satisfy his cravings. So, Wang Xiaoyi cleared his throat and began enthusiastically reciting the names of dishes like a well-trained professional waiter: "Fried dough sticks, tofu pudding, corn porridge, meat buns, dumplings, jianbing guozi (Chinese crepe), roujiamo (Chinese hamburger), leek boxes, potato shreds rolls, grilled cold noodles, sauerkraut pancakes, cornbread, scallion pancakes, and dumpling soup."

The Elf Dragon King (in human form) listened to the long list of dishes, its eyes sparkling with excitement like two bright stars, and without hesitation said it wanted ten servings of each. Wang Xiaoyi, upon hearing this, inwardly smiled wryly. If it really ordered ten servings of each, its gratitude level would be completely depleted; that wouldn't do.

Suddenly, he had an idea: to use a praise spell to appease them first. He coughed lightly, then said with a beaming smile, "Great, wise, learned, profound, elegant, and understanding teacher..." Especially the last four words, "understanding," he drew out the sound, like a melodious long song, "How about we start with ten fried dough sticks, two bowls of tofu pudding, five meat buns, and a serving of grilled cold noodles? You know these foods didn't just appear out of thin air; you should also know the principle of conservation of elements. I exchanged them for substances similar to elements. Besides, I need to save these gratitude points to exchange for comic books. So, would you like some delicious food or comic books? Of course, I'll do whatever you say."

After listening to Wang Xiaoyi's words, the Elf King Dragon (in human form) thought for a moment and then said, "Alright then, I'll bear with it a little longer. I'll ask my mother to prepare a huge feast for me when I get home." Wang Xiaoyi immediately agreed, "That's for sure. Your mother's cooking is definitely the most delicious in the world." As the Elf King Dragon listened to Wang Xiaoyi's description, its eyes sparkled, as if it was already imagining the taste of those delicacies.

Wang Xiaoyi skillfully opened the gratitude points exchange page and discovered that he could actually exchange the comic book for subsequent chapters without having to draw them again. This was truly good news. His eyes quickly scanned the many exchangeable items, selecting the delicacies he had promised to the Elf King Dragon. As he did so, dishes of food appeared in the room as if by magic.

He carefully placed all the delicious food on the small table in the room. The fried dough sticks were neatly arranged, like soldiers waiting for inspection; two bowls of tofu pudding emitted a faint aroma of soybeans, and steam still rose from the bowls; five meat buns were round and plump, emitting an enticing meaty fragrance; the grilled cold noodles were also arranged neatly, and there were also tableware thoughtfully provided by the system, including chopsticks, spoons and forks. This meticulous and thoughtful arrangement truly deserves praise.

The Elf Dragon King (in human form) gazed at the table laden with delicious food, his eyes gleaming with excitement, a satisfied smile playing on his lips. He eagerly began to feast, first picking up a fried dough stick, taking a small bite with a satisfying crunch, and a look of pure bliss spreading across his face. Next, he picked up a bowl of tofu pudding, scooping up a piece with a spoon and savoring its smooth texture and savory broth. He quickly grabbed a meat bun, taking a large bite, the juicy filling his mouth. Finally, he began to enjoy the grilled cold noodles, twirling them with chopsticks, adding sweet and sour pickled vegetables and tender slices of meat. With each bite, a symphony of flavors filled his mouth, and he ate with complete satisfaction, the room filled with the aroma of the delicious food.

While the Elf King Dragon was enjoying his meal, Wang Xiaoyi wasn't idle either. He sat to the side, his eyes revealing a hint of anticipation and excitement. He took a deep breath to calm his excitement, then opened the Gratitude Point Lottery System. Looking at the unlocked NDS, comic books, and many question marks, he was filled with anticipation. He decided to start with a 10-pull, a large-scale lottery he hadn't done in a long time.

As the lottery button was pressed, the pointer on the screen began to spin rapidly, and Wang Xiaoyi's heart pounded faster. He stared intently at the screen, no longer caring about divine weapons or mythical beasts; he was only looking forward to the precious comic books. After all, he knew that these comic books were not just entertainment for him, but also a cultural link connecting him to his original world.

Although he knew that lotteries were often random and that he wouldn't always win what he wanted, he still held onto a sliver of hope that this time, through luck and effort, he could win those comic books he had longed for.

As the lottery results were announced, Wang Xiaoyi stared nervously at the screen. When he saw that several of the comic books he had always dreamed of were among the winners, he couldn't help but cheer. He knew that his hard work and waiting had finally paid off.

A system notification sounded, and I received five comic books: Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya, Sailor Moon, Storm Riders, and Mystic Weapon. Surprisingly, even Hong Kong comics were included! I also received a power bank, a note, and three game cartridges: Pokémon Diamond, Animal Crossing, and Nora's Time Machine.

The heroic battles of Goku in Dragon Ball, the courageous struggles of Athena's Saints in Saint Seiya, the transformations and adventures of Sailor Moon, the legendary adventures of Bu Jingyun and Nie Feng in Storm Riders, and the mysterious power of the Ten Heavenly Weapons in The Legend of the Divine Weapons—all these immersed him in the world of comics, allowing him to experience endless joy and emotion.

Surprisingly, the slip of paper was also considered a rare chance to win a prize. He carefully picked it up, his eyes lighting up. The paper was covered in intricate and complex magical runes, seemingly containing boundless wisdom. Below the runes was a passage of text, which Wang Xiaoyi read carefully, and he became even more excited.

It turns out that this text was actually a solution to the problem of charging electronic devices in this other world. Electronic devices had always been a major issue for Wang Xiaoyi in this world. Because the power system in this world was different from Earth's, he had previously been troubled by how to charge his Nintendo DS game console.

Wang Xiaoyi had originally planned to have the Elf King Dragon use lightning magic to charge the NDS, but he knew the success rate was probably as low as getting an epic item, so he didn't dare let it try. After all, the device could be redeemed with gratitude points, but save data couldn't be copied; once lost, it could never be recovered.

Now that he had this method, Wang Xiaoyi felt incredibly relaxed and happy. He figured it would be fine if the Elf King Dragon studied it.

After finishing the delicious food on the table, the Elf King Dragon (human form) let out a satisfied burp. Wang Xiaoyi, seeing his slightly greasy mouth, smiled gently. He considerately took a tissue from his pocket, walked quietly to the Elf King Dragon's side, knelt down, and carefully wiped his mouth. The Elf King Dragon (human form) nonchalantly sat down on the edge of the bed, his eyes sparkling as he picked up his NDS again. Wang Xiaoyi watched for a while, then became so sleepy that his eyelids felt as heavy as lead, and soon fell asleep.
