Genshin Impact: Rise of the Desert
Chapter 13 Fontaine's Attack
Sirhind was first sent to maintain the muskets, which had been worn down quite a bit on the way from Fontainebleau, and two of them were even broken.
There were twenty-two muskets in total. After removing the two that were broken and repaired by Silhind, Ivan selected twenty skilled archers from the tribe—17 men and 3 women—to train with the remaining twenty.
Ivan named this unit the "Shooting Corps".
At the easternmost point of the Blade Forest, Ivan led his men to fire shots at the distant sea.
Ivan brandished his scimitar: "Fire!"
The gunners, who were scattered along the shore, pulled their triggers.
"bump!"
After a large amount of smoke filled with the pleasant smell of gunpowder appeared at the muzzle, water splashed on the sea surface, and several fish surfaced. The hit rate was frighteningly low.
But this is the first time these people have used a gun, so it doesn't matter if they're not skilled; let's continue!
He sat by the river, idly eating dates, and the sight made him itch to get a gun too.
Beside him were a pile of animal hides and materials from monsters, which Ivan had traded countless milk curds for from Raka. He planned to try his luck here and wait for the Fontaine people.
Ivan gave instructions for a while and then let them train on their own before walking to the river.
A date palm the size of a head was thrown into the river and hit Ivan: "Why didn't you use the military tactics you heard from the Fontaines and have them gather together and start shooting?"
Ivan caught the date palm, made a hole in it, and sat down beside it in the river: "That's because Fontaine doesn't value military training. They have a powerful god protecting them, and gathering together can increase their accuracy."
"I plan to train them into elites. They are already experts in archery, with a good foundation, and they will learn quickly."
He broke open a date palm in the river and scooped out the flesh inside: "I noticed there's no gold plating inside, why?"
“Gold plating is powerful enough on its own. Let’s arm our relatively weaker people with these high-tech weapons first,” Ivan replied.
There wasn't much coconut juice in the date palm; Ivan just used it to moisten his throat. Then he cracked open the date palm, revealing the thick flesh, and scooped out a handful to put in his mouth.
The astringent taste exploded in Ivan's mouth; it wasn't exactly delicious, but it wasn't terrible either.
Date palms have a lot of flesh and little juice, so they are usually made into cakes and eaten as a staple food.
"Boss! The Fontaines are here!" a shooting soldier shouted excitedly. "Let's see what good stuff they've brought this time!"
Upon hearing that the Fontainebleau people were coming, the shooting corps lost all interest in training.
Ivan's expression changed: "Take your guns and come with me!"
People paused for a moment, but didn't voice their questions, and followed Ivan to the Hilichurls on guard duty.
The Wood Shield Hilichurl had been watching the human in front of him with boredom, but when he saw the human stuff the iron rod in his hand into his bed, he became somewhat angry.
"Gusha!" (You motherfucker)
The wooden-shielded Hilichurl swears, but remembering Raka's instructions, he doesn't attack. Instead, he turns to throw the gun out of the bed.
"Tomo ye mani." (Friend, I'll leave you here for a while.)
As Ivan spoke, he gathered all the dried meat from the bodies of his tribesmen and stuffed it into the hands of the Chuch thug.
The Qiuqiu thug scratched his head, looked at the blankets, and then at the huge amount of jerky in his hand.
Finally, the thug put away the jerky and continued sitting on the ground.
After fooling the Church thugs, Ivan led his men toward the beach, saying, "Watch your step! The Fontaines don't sell guns, so don't let that slip!"
"Don't worry, boss. The spit of a man in the desert turns into iron nails when it falls on the sand. I would never tell!"
“I swear to the King of the Great Red Sand Sea, Chieftain.”
"If I were to tell anyone, may my soul spend the rest of my life in the Gobi Desert hell."
Ivan breathed a sigh of relief as he listened to his people swear a solemn oath.
As time went by, the patrol ship drew closer and closer, and Ivan could see the people and Melusin standing on it.
The Melousin are an underwater race. Some of them were later guided by Navelette to live in Fontaine, and now there is a steady stream of Melousin going to Fontaine on their own.
Navigette was extremely busy and only presided over the trials of a portion of the cases, leaving the rest to his court of prosecutors. However, even with his busy schedule, he would still stop to greet Melossin whenever he saw her, a practice he had maintained for centuries.
The Melousin are all short in stature, with short arms and legs. However, they possess a special, innate vision that allows them to see things that are difficult for humans to observe, making it easier for them to find clues about bad guys. For this reason, most of the employees of Shadow Chaser are Melousin.
The uniformed Melusin are all criminal investigators belonging to the "Shadow Chaser" - even the tour guides are no exception.
These were all told to me by a friend, an old acquaintance.
"Abel!" Ivan, with his sharp eyes, spotted Melousin at a glance. "Stop here!"
Ebel was originally the captain of a cruiser on the Clementine Line, but during his off-duty hours he was often hired by nobles to sail to the desert.
Over time, Abel got used to sailing for these nobles... It wasn't because their macarons and chocolates were delicious, but because they were limited editions and very expensive, which is why he came for free.
Absolutely not!
Abel is the helpful Melusin, she wouldn't be so vulgar.
Abel was happy to see Ivan, but then she noticed the Hilichurls in the distance: "Ivan, are those Hilichurls alright?"
"Don't worry, we're allies now," Ivan said casually. "Come on over! By the way, anyone want to take a look at my tribe? The exotic scenery will definitely satisfy you!"
Ivan has now gone from a leader to a tout, and his transformation has been flawless.
"Wow! Desert tribe, I want to go!" a yellow figure shouted excitedly. "Myles, I want to play!"
This woman was a stunningly beautiful and poised woman with long, wavy blonde hair and deep blue eyes. She wore a custom-made outfit from Chiori-ya, consisting of black and gold accents.
She wore a black top hat decorated with yellow roses and white feathers, with a blue diamond-shaped gemstone pendant underneath, and a black bow tied at the back of her head.
She wore a sapphire necklace under a black gothic collar, a strapless white mini dress covered with multiple layers of black fitted fabric, a ship's wheel-shaped decoration at the waist, and a yellow printed raven tail skirt at the back.
A yellow bow is tied on her sleeve, and a Geo-elemental Vision hangs on her left arm. She wears metal leg rings and black high-heeled over-the-knee boots, the heels also decorated with black bows.
When Ivan transmigrated, he had just left the desert. Ivan didn't know much about Fontainebleau, but the beautiful woman in front of him was definitely a character worthy of being added to the gacha pool.
Based on the original's usual pattern, most of the characters added to the gacha pool are good guys.
Good people are the easiest to deal with.
Especially civilized people.
Ivan grinned maliciously, but did not immediately retaliate. Instead, he ordered Abel to stop the ship.
"Hooray! We're finally here!"
"Hey hey, hello friend, how have you been lately?"
"That's wonderful! Our chieftain has kept his promise, and now no one in our tribe will go hungry!"
Some impoverished nobles would endure the disdain of other nobles, shamelessly board the ships, and bring with them Fontaine technology and trade with the Muscovites.
Naturally, I became friends with the Muscovites, and of course, I also became friends with other frequent visitors.
Two of the shooting soldiers happened to know the Fontainebleau people, and they hugged and greeted each other as soon as they got off the ship.
"Abel, how have you been lately?" Ivan asked, patting Abel's head with a grin as he boarded the ship, his thieving eyes constantly scanning the interior of the patrol vessel. "How many days are you going to be spending with these good-for-nothings this time?"
Abel rubbed against Ivan's hand: "I got four days off this time, and we're going back in three days."
"Then come to my tribe, let me give you a good welcome!"
"Okay..."
