Genshin Impact: Rise of the Desert
Chapter 12 Silhind Derry
After a long period of tension, Ivan slept soundly at night.
The fire pit was lit, and the smoke drifted out of the tunnel, leaving only the heat from the burning sheep dung inside.
Although Ivan was the chieftain, his tent was far from luxurious, lagging far behind other powerful families in the tribe, and the bedding on his bed was just ordinary sheep wool.
There's no place like home, and Ivan has slept in this doghouse since he was a baby; it's practically a family heirloom. His father slept in it, and so did he.
The next morning, Ivan struggled to get out of the doghouse, feeling not refreshed, but rather sore all over.
A sandworm's gallbladder, eroded by wind, hung from the top of Ivan's tent.
The wind-eroded sandworm is the most dangerous monster in the desert, revered by the desert people as the prince of all sands. In the desolate and barren desert, many ignorant tribes hold it in awe.
The year after Ivan took office, Pulau welcomed a prince named Wansha.
At the urging of Kazan Uzbek, the most prestigious Uzbek tribal shaman, twenty-two large tribes in Fuluoyu mobilized a total of 20,000 infantry and cavalry to launch a campaign against the wind-eroding sandworms.
After suffering the tragic loss of six thousand lives, the disability of three thousand, and the injury of the rest, the wind-eroded sandworm was finally slain by Ivan and a total of one hundred and ninety gilded warriors.
The dead wind-eroded sandworms were divided equally among the tribes, with each tribe's chief receiving their internal organs, which were said to strengthen the body when consumed.
Ivan was given the gall bladder, which had a bitter taste that was hard to swallow, but Ivan only licked it once a day.
Fortunately, luck was on Ivan's side. Other tribal chiefs suffered misfortune because they were unable to absorb the violent wind element when cooking the internal organs of the wind-eroded sandworms, and their bodies exploded and they died. As a result, many tribes broke out in a battle for the chieftainship.
Ivan licked a gall bladder every day, absorbing the almost desperate bitterness along with a small amount of elements. After a year, Ivan became even stronger.
Goujian endured hardship and humiliation, and although I didn't actually endure hardship, I still tasted humiliation!
Every day, reflect on what the tribe lacks.
But Ivan, who was used to hardship, felt as if he lacked nothing.
After washing up, he took his scimitar and went to find the scholar he had brought back.
After the banquet, the scholar was handed over to Timur of the River St. by Ivan. As soon as Ivan arrived at Timur's family tent, he heard a commotion.
"Wow, this guy's really good at this."
"You bet! My God, it's fucking unbearable to look at!"
"Are these scholars? If it weren't for the lack of a camera, I would have thought that the Fontainebleauers had come to film again."
He Zhong, along with his two younger brothers and a scholar who was writing something on a book, were looking at something in their sheepfold when they saw Ivan approaching. He Zhong hurriedly called out, "Boss, come quick! Damn it, stop him!"
As Ivan was wondering, he heard a pitiful cry coming from the sheepfold.
Ivan strode closer and rummaged in the river. He saw a rainforest man stripped naked, crying and spitting at the ewes in the sheepfold, while Khorasan stood nearby, brandishing a scimitar.
In fact, every tribe in the desert is on the wanted list of the Adventurers' Guild in Sumeru City. The bounty for each tribe is a whopping 20 million Mora and 1 million Originium.
Thanks to this, Ivan would receive groups of adventurer slaves every now and then. The women were given to men without wives, while the men were coerced or lured into giving him some skills, which were then used for hard labor after they were no longer needed.
These slaves were usually managed by Timur's family, and this person was clearly a slave.
"What are you doing?" Ivan's mouth was a little dry. He moved his legs to adjust the trajectory. "In the river, we said killing someone was just a nod. Isn't this a bit cruel?"
One scholar pointed to the river and said, "He did it."
Ivan: ? ? ?
The scholar's name was Silhind Derry, and he came from the Vaishya class.
The Delhi family was a highly influential family in Sumeru, with many members being scholars of the Chancellery who had transcended social class to become Brahmins.
Sylhind was one of them, a scholar at the Shravasti school of epistemology, which pursues truth and includes disciplines such as linguistics and syllogism. In short, they are either interpreting ancient texts or creating new ones.
Influenced by his fellow professor, Farussan, Sirhind followed his seniors to an ancient ruin and discovered ancient hybridization notes.
Such experiments are not permitted in the rainforest, but in the desert, as long as you do not endanger the lives and dignity of your people, you can do whatever you want.
You call them slaves? Those are despicable outsiders, rainforest adventurers, they don't count as members of our tribe!
Sirhind successfully deciphered the contents of the notebook, and this knowledge thrilled him. He couldn't wait to conduct experiments.
The first experiment, which was also recorded in the notebook, involved grafting a sheep's head onto a peach tree. This way, the desert people could water the tree every day without having to raid the rainforest from time to time!
The journal clearly states that the experiment was a great success, so why is it not working for me?
Sylhind conducted many more experiments, all of which ended in failure.
Repeated failures drove Silhind to madness. He kept repeating the experiments in his notebook and spent all the pocket money his family gave him.
Until a new experiment was conducted, in which a three-month-old human embryo was exchanged for a female dog's embryo, the resulting human puppies born after ten months would be exceptionally robust and could be sold to dogfighting rings to supplement his allowance to continue the experiment.
A human who is two months pregnant with a female dog will have a mature mind within a few years, and his mother will surely thank herself.
"Open the door, Xumi Discipline Officer!"
There was a knock on the basement door, and Sirhind decisively slit his abdomen, hiding the notebook he had found in the ruins inside.
The disciplinary officer, Al Heissen, led the disciplinary officer into the dimly lit basement, where they found a woman with lifeless eyes and a mother dog that had been choked to death by human embryos among a dozen human corpses.
Sylsind's experiment failed, and he was also captured.
“I don’t like to meddle in other people’s business, but an experiment should not be built on the loss of innocent lives,” Elhesen said to Silhind, who was being held captive by the disciplinary officer but was still struggling.
“If I experiment with rats and cockroaches, you’ll at most call me an idiot!” Silhind said to Elhesen.
After receiving treatment for his wounds, Silhind was imprisoned. Fortunately, the disciplinary officer thought he was a scoundrel and found him an incompetent doctor, who failed to discover the hidden notes. The Derry family spent a large sum of money to revise Silhind's resume and get him released from prison, after which he went to Fontainebleau to study and enhance his resume.
During his time in Fontaine, Sirhind was relatively quiet, but after taking the notebook out of his body and looking through the experimental records, he couldn't conduct any experiments; it felt as if ants were crawling all over his body.
After spending more than ten days together, Silhind knew that he could no longer conduct experiments even if he returned to the rainforest, so he decided to take a gamble and see if this desert man could keep him.
"Holy crap, awesome!"
"Boss, this guy's ruthless, really ruthless!"
"Let me tell you something upfront: you can't experiment on Muscovites. If you want to experiment, just tell us, and we'll go to the rainforest and arrest people."
The Timurids exclaimed "Damn it!" upon hearing this, but they were not offended.
If any one of the experiments that Sirhind mentioned were to succeed, it would be a technological innovation for Teyvat.
Ivan pondered for a long time before asking, "Besides these, what else can you do?"
"Postpartum care of sows, gun maintenance, gunpowder preparation, alchemy table construction..." Sirhind pondered, listing each item on his fingers.
Before he could finish speaking, Ivan exclaimed, "Welcome to the Moscow Tribe, Sirhind Derry! I hereby appoint you as the Twain-nayan of Moscow, Chief Scholar! I bestow upon you the title of First Sachima of Moscow!"
…………
1. Sachima: The assistant of Hermanubis, the wisest of all, and the embodiment of wisdom in the eyes of the desert people. Those who possess the title of Sachima hold prestige in the tribe second only to the chieftain and shaman. The rainforest people created a fried dessert named Sachima to humiliate the desert people. It was later introduced to Liyue and became famous in Teyvat as a food.
