Rebirth of a Farmer's Dad

Chapter 37 Parents’ Meeting

Seeing everyone's enthusiasm, Luo Feng poured out his ideas to them, sincerely inviting them to join him.

With such a good deal, no one would refuse. After all, nobody wants to turn down money.

Perhaps because he'd drunk quite a bit, Luo Feng had completely forgotten about his earlier attempt to test the guys' character. He told them that the shop didn't need anyone right now, but they could come for training if they had time. During the two-month training period, Luo Feng would only pay each of them a basic living allowance. Once things settled down at the canteen, he'd start paying them a salary: 200 yuan per person per month, with commission for good performance, just like Hu Zi and the others.

200 yuan a month is quite a lot now, and when the guys heard about this offer, they all nodded in agreement to stay. However, Luo Feng also gave them a heads-up: they should learn how to cook large-batch dishes properly from him, and anyone who didn't do it well would be fired.

The group naturally had no objections and readily agreed, fearing that Luo Feng might change his mind.

And so, Luo Feng gained three more men. These three were named Qi Biao, Zhou Manfu, and Wang Baosheng. Luo Feng planned to call them Biaozi, Afu, and Baosheng, following his second brother's habit.

Afterwards, having eaten and drunk their fill, the guests were unwilling to stay any longer. Before Luo Feng could even give the order to leave, they all began clamoring to go home. Luo Feng didn't stop them, as there was simply no place in the restaurant for them to rest. And so, the banquet came to an end.

For the next few days, Luo Feng continued his life as usual. Perhaps because he felt he had everything under control, he seemed quite happy during these days.

But time doesn't linger for even a moment, regardless of anyone's emotions. Before we knew it, another week had passed.

Luo Feng, of course, wouldn't forget that next Monday was the day of his daughter's parent-teacher conference. In order not to embarrass his daughter, he specially took advantage of the weekend to buy himself a new outfit.

It wasn't that Luo Feng was vain. After all, it was his first parent-teacher conference, so he needed to dress formally. Most of his clothes were from the countryside, and they were not only rustic but also tattered.

These clothes at home are fine for everyday wear, but they'd look a bit cheap for formal occasions. Besides, I can afford to buy more, so why not treat myself better?

On Monday morning, Luo Feng dressed himself up smartly and changed Xinghua into her favorite white tutu. The father and daughter, looking refreshed, headed to kindergarten. Because it was parent-teacher conference day, many parents had already arrived at the kindergarten. They were chatting in small groups.

Luo Feng naturally had no interest in that; he just wanted to be with his daughter. But Xinghua seemed to disregard her father's wishes, abandoning him to go play with her friends. Luo Feng couldn't help but chuckle at her refusal to look back.

"People say girls are outgoing, and it seems my daughter is the same. I really wonder if she'll remember her father when she grows up and finds a boyfriend." For some reason, Luo Feng suddenly had this strange thought.

Fortunately, before Luo Feng could think too much about it, the teacher had already notified them to go to the children's classroom for a meeting.

Parent-teacher conferences always follow the same routine. After the teacher finishes speaking, they praise the children who did well academically and in good behavior. Then, they offer subtle criticism to the children who didn't perform as well, asking parents to supervise their children to correct their mistakes and study harder.

This process would normally seem tedious to Luo Feng. But since he was attending his daughter's parent-teacher conference as a parent, he patiently listened to the presentation.

He was very satisfied with the result; his daughter excelled in everything in her class and got along well with her teachers and classmates. For this, Xinghua received unanimous praise from her teachers.

Listening to the teacher constantly praising his daughter, and seeing the envious glances from the other parents, Luo Feng felt extremely proud. It seemed his daughter, Xinghua, had become "someone else's child."

It's strange, really, because I hadn't specifically taught my daughter. Xinghua's talent for learning seemed to be innate; she seemed to be very interested in everything related to learning. While others could recite Tang poems countless times and still not remember them, she only needed to recite them three or five times, and she would basically have a good grasp of them.

Luo Feng didn't quite understand what the teacher said next. He only heard the teacher's last sentence: "After this week, the children will start their summer vacation."

After saying this, the teacher announced the end of the parent-teacher meeting, and parents could take their children home. The children didn't have to attend class today.

Upon hearing this, Luo Feng immediately prepared to get up and go home, as he still had a lot of things to do at his shop.

Unfortunately, it seemed he couldn't leave. Luo Feng discovered that he had been surrounded by a group of students' parents. Everyone was showering him with flattery, eager to know how he disciplined his daughters.

Luo Feng seemed quite pleased with the flattery from everyone. In high spirits, he naturally answered all their questions without reservation.

However, the others clearly did not believe Luo Feng's words. They thought Luo Feng was stingy and unwilling to share his experience with them.

Feeling helpless, Luo Feng said to everyone, "I really didn't lie to you. We were poor back then, and children from poor families mature early. My daughter has been sensible since she was little; she can do everything."

Seeing Luo Feng's unwavering confidence, everyone was speechless for a moment. His daughter's talent was innate; how could their own children compare?

"Turns out he's just a country bumpkin, trying to act like a human being here." At that moment, a voice came from the crowd.

Luo Feng was immediately displeased and looked in the direction of the voice. The speaker was a very fat man, probably weighing close to 200 pounds. Even his suit was almost bursting at the seams. The fat man also wore a gold chain around his neck. Based on Luo Feng's experience, it was probably fake.

Luo Feng wasn't going to bother with this kind of person; after all, there are all sorts of birds in a big forest. But just as Luo Feng was about to leave, the fat man added, "That's right, hurry up and leave. A country bumpkin like you staying here will only lower the overall quality of the kindergarten."

Luo Feng immediately got angry. People have bottom lines, and some things can only be done once and cannot be repeated.

Luo Feng stepped forward, pointed at the fat man, and said, "Next time you go out, remember to wear a better gold necklace. Look at your chain, some parts of it are even blackened. People who know you will say you're wearing a gold chain, but people who don't will think it's a dog leash."

The fat man, having been exposed in public, was a little embarrassed. So he immediately retorted, "I don't think you're any better. You're no longer needed here. Believe me, I'll make sure you can't stay in this county."

Luo Feng simply smiled at this.

"Why aren't you saying anything? Are you scared? Then hurry up and go back to the countryside. This isn't a place for you." The fat man saw Luo Feng smiling without saying a word and assumed he had backed down.

"Haha, it's no trouble for you to worry about how I'm doing, brother. I'm not very talented, but my business is Luo's Restaurant in the county. May I ask where you work, brother?" Luo Feng laughed and said to the fat man.

Everyone initially thought the fat man would retort again, but capital isn't something anyone can simply acquire. Despite its relatively short history, Luo's Restaurant has already secured its position as the leading restaurant in the entire county thanks to its excellent food and attentive service. At least within the county, it has no rivals.

The fat man clearly knew this, so he didn't say a word and slunk away.

Seeing that there was nothing exciting to see, the crowd dispersed.
