Return to before death

Chapter 4 Life and Death in a Moment

With a gun that could go off at any moment pressed against her forehead, the woman remained as indifferent as ever. "Young Master Sheng, since I have lost, you may kill me or torture me as you please."

"You won't tell me?" The boy's smile deepened, and with his face whiter than snow, he looked like a ghost from hell. "Didn't you just try to force me to jump off a building? A twenty-two-story building, will a person die if they jump? I'm suddenly starting to wonder too."

The gun was pointed precisely at the woman's forehead. Without a doubt, this shot would be a fatal headshot, leaving her no chance of survival.

The boy took one step forward, and the woman took one step back, until they reached the window, where there was nowhere left to retreat.

"What did you do just now?" The young man's thin lips parted and uttered cold words. "Now, jump down. Don't worry, since your boss can guarantee that my death was suicide, our Sheng family can also guarantee that yours will be suicide as well."

The word "suicide" was emphasized with extra force, as if carrying a chilling, bone-deep wind that sent a shiver down Yan Ran's spine, who had been observing coldly.

Similarly, the woman's unchanging face also changed; she bit her lip, and the muscles in her face twitched slightly.

"Scared?"

"Everyone wants to live," the woman said coldly. "Will you let me go if I tell you who's behind this?"

"I can guarantee you'll leave the country alive. Whether you survive or not depends on your own abilities."

"Okay, I'll tell you." The woman took two steps forward and whispered in the boy's ear, "Young Master Sheng, you're still too young."

Before she could finish speaking, the woman grabbed the man's waist, held him tightly, and jumped out of the window with the conviction that they would die together.

"careful!"

He thought he was going to die, but suddenly someone grabbed his hand. The boy stared in astonishment at Yan Ran, whose face was contorted from the strain. Why did he have to do that?

They were complete strangers, only connected for a mere two minutes for the sake of survival.

The woman fell straight down after jumping out of the window, while he was "teetering on the brink of death."

On Yan Ran's right shoulder, where she was being held, blood gushed out from the knife embedded in her flesh, staining the entire area from her shoulder to her chest red.

The boy's handsome eyebrows furrowed, his eyes filled with confusion and bewilderment. "Why?"

why?

Yan Ran bit her lip tightly, afraid to speak, lest she lose her strength and no longer be able to hold onto him.

As for why, she didn't think much about it when she made the move, and she doesn't want to think about it now.

At that moment, with a bang, the door, which was locked from the inside, was kicked open, and five tall men dressed in black walked in. There was no doubt that these men were the Sheng family's bodyguards.

With the help of the bodyguards, the boy was slowly dragged in through the window.

He climbed in through the window, his gaze fixed on the woman who disregarded her own arm and foolishly believed that she, a weak woman, could save him.

However, just as he stood up straight, in the blink of an eye, the woman in front of him vanished without a sound.

"Young Master..." The bodyguard was about to explain why they were so late when the young man waved him down, his probing gaze lingering on the mostly damaged door lock. "How did you get in?"

"The third brother shot the lock open before he could get in."

"The door was locked from the inside?"

"Yes, Master."

The boy raised an eyebrow. If it was locked from the inside, how did that woman get in?

She was so badly injured, and almost every place she stayed was covered in blood, so why was there no blood at the door?

His gaze drifted downwards, landing on the spot where the woman had disappeared, where a few drops of red blood lay scattered, starkly visible against the white tiles.

Also conspicuous was a swastika-shaped amulet lying next to the bloodstains.

From the cool hardwood floors to the cold white tiles, and then back to the dark floor of the bedroom, Yan Ran fell from the portal of time and space to the ground, feeling as if it were all a dream, so unreal that it had no credibility whatsoever.

But the intense pain in her shoulder and the utter exhaustion she felt clearly reminded her that what had just happened was not a dream.
