Return to before death

Chapter 5 Dual Memory

No! Now is not the time to think about that.

She has lost too much blood and her consciousness is becoming increasingly blurred; she really can't hold on much longer.

Yan Ran dragged her tired body, inching towards the door. Large beads of sweat gathered together, running down her long eyelashes and obscuring her eyes.

It felt like half a century had passed before she finally managed to grab the doorknob, push the door open, and desperately squeeze out a barely audible cry for help from her dry throat before completely losing consciousness.

When Yan Ran woke up again, the white ceiling and the hospital room layout, almost identical to that of her miraculous experience, made her feel disoriented once more. She could vaguely hear a man's furious voice coming from the doorway, but the voice was indistinct and unclear.

However, it was still possible to tell that the speaker was his own uncle, Zongzheng Jing.

Hearing her loved ones' voices, the rollercoaster of panic finally subsided, and her nerves, which had been taut since she woke up, were finally able to relax, allowing her to carefully reflect on the absurd events of the previous night.

Outside the door, the veins on Zongzheng Jing's hands were about to burst, his eyes were bloodshot, and his lips were trembling, clearly showing his anger at this moment.

"I'm warning you, I'm not my elder brother. I may claim to be steady, but I'm actually just overthinking things. Tell your master that if you dare lay a finger on my sister-in-law again, I'll hand over all the account books, and we'll all die together!"

The woman on the phone paused for a few seconds before speaking slowly and deliberately, "Mr. Zong, I can say with certainty that everything that happened at your residence has nothing to do with Mr. Dai. As for your message, I will convey it to Mr. Dai in its entirety. However, please remember that no one has ever been able to threaten Mr. Dai, and Mr. Dai has never been threatened by anyone."

Zongzheng Jing sneered, "Besides you, who else has the guts to shoot my elder brother in broad daylight? Who else has the guts to sneak into the Zong family and stab my sister-in-law without a sound?"

"If you insist on thinking this way, Mr. Zong, there's nothing I can do about it."

The woman hung up the phone impatiently after speaking. Zong Zhengjing's anger was about to explode, but he swallowed it back. When he called back, the phone was already switched off.

Damn bastard!

The deliberate pause in his reply, the abrupt hanging up of the phone – all of this pushed Zongzheng Jing to the breaking point.

With a loud thud, the phone in his hand smashed against the wall and shattered into pieces.

You surnamed Dai, one day I will make you pay for your crimes in blood!

hiss……

A muffled groan came from inside the ward, as if the wound had been aggravated. Zong Zhengjing hurriedly returned to the ward, pushed open the door, and saw Yan Ran trying to sit up. He rushed forward to help her, "You just woke up, you should be lying down and resting, why are you in such a hurry to get up?"

"Uncle, tell me, who is the current head of Shengshi Haoting? Is it Sheng Xuankao?" She grabbed his arm with her other hand, looking at him with eagerness and longing, her eyes like those of someone seeing an oasis in a mirage in a desolate desert.

Seeing her like this made him worry and feel heartbroken to the core, yet he was at a loss and could only ask blankly, "Yan Ran, what's wrong?"

"Tell me first, is it Sheng Xuan's reward?"

"It is Sheng Shi's eldest son, Sheng Xuanling."

It wasn't Shengxuan's treat.

Yan Ran's hand, which had been gripping Zong Zhengjing's, fell limply to her side; she was in a state of utter confusion.

Has she gone mad?

Just now, as she lay in bed, her mind, which had begun to function again, was racing, with the original memories being overwritten and updated by other memories.

Right before her eyes, everything changed.

She clearly remembered that on their wedding anniversary, Zhengqing had no choice but to attend the succession party hosted by Shengxuan, the new president of Shengshi Haoting. She didn't want to go and they even had a fight, which ended badly.

But just now, two memory lines suddenly appeared in her mind.

In the updated second memory timeline, Zhengqing still stubbornly insists on attending the succession party for the new president of Shengshi Haoting. The two still part on bad terms. The only difference is that the new president of Shengshi Haoting has changed from Sheng Xuankao, the second son of the Sheng family, to Sheng Xuanling, the eldest son of the Sheng family.

How can it be?

Is she schizophrenic?
