Return to before death
Chapter 3: Firing a Shot into the Sky
Yan Ran's eyes widened, her mind blank, but she clearly saw the woman's slender index finger pressing on the trigger, tightening it little by little.
The boy, who was being threatened by the woman with a gun, suddenly kicked the woman's wrist with his long leg. The gun instantly slipped from the woman's hand, flew into the air, and landed in front of Yan Ran in an arc. The two quickly exchanged blows.
This scene, reminiscent of an action movie, completely shocked Yan Ran. Was it an illusion?
Yan Ran closed her eyes, as if hoping to wake up from her dream. Her large eyes slowly opened a crack, but nothing had changed. The boy and the woman were fighting, evenly matched. She closed her eyes again, making sure she wasn't hallucinating, before opening them again.
So, night turned into day. In a room resembling a hospital ward, the petite woman gained the upper hand, while the tall, thin, and fair-skinned boy lay on the ground, vomiting a large pool of blood.
"What are you standing there for? If you don't help, we'll both die today!" The boy glared at Yan Ran with exasperation, then fixed his gaze on the gun that Yan Ran could easily reach.
The woman also noticed Yan Ran's side, keeping her eyes on the gun out of the corner of her eye while warily watching the boy who had just stood up from the ground.
"Pick up the gun!"
With a roar, the boy charged at the woman again. This time, Yan Ran did not hesitate and quickly lunged at the pistol on the ground. The woman also ruthlessly threw the fruit knife on the bedside table at Yan Ran.
The knife, like a flying dagger from a martial arts novel, pierced Yan Ran's left shoulder with deadly speed.
Yan Ran didn't dare to hesitate. Enduring the pain, she picked up the gun and decisively fired a shot at the ceiling, her voice cold and stern, "Neither of you are allowed to move!"
She holstered the gun, pointed it at the two stunned people, and after her confusion faded, her brows furrowed with a fierce determination. "I said, neither of you are allowed to move, or I don't know if this gun will accidentally go off."
Although she came from a humble background, she often went to shooting clubs in Hong Kong with her husband after she got married. Her marksmanship, while not the best, was still in the top five.
Upon hearing Yan Ran's words, the young man raised his eyebrows arrogantly, his arrogance clashing with the thin hospital gown he wore. The woman in the nurse's uniform had the same ordinary face as when Yan Ran woke up, lifeless and devoid of warmth, like a dead person.
"Are you from the Sheng family?" the woman asked slowly, taking a step forward.
"Don't let her near you. She's an assassin; she can kill someone within a meter." The boy warned alertly, and Yan Ran pointed her gun at the woman.
The woman scoffed dismissively, "Young Master Sheng has always been arrogant and haughty. When has he ever needed a woman to protect him?"
"Out of options, how about using reverse psychology?" The young man wiped the remaining blood from the corner of his mouth with a wicked grin. "Unfortunately, reverse psychology won't work on me."
He pressed his tongue against the numb left side of his face and held out his hand to Yan Ran, "Give me the gun."
Yan Ran tightened her grip on the gun, her brow furrowed, and her suspicious gaze locked onto the boy, scrutinizing him carefully from head to toe, then from bottom to top.
She knew perfectly well that with just this one gun, it was impossible for a woman as weak as her to subdue two ruthless characters.
The current situation is temporary. She must make a decision immediately and choose one of the two to cooperate with. Otherwise, the longer it goes on, the less her arms will be able to support her, and the more flaws will appear. Once there are too many flaws, she will be in danger at any time.
Sheng Xuanling?
The nameplate on the boy's hospital gown was embroidered with the three characters "Sheng Xuanling," which was the boy's name!
Only patients in the VIP luxury wards of private hospitals have specially customized hospital gowns embroidered with their own names.
How can it be?
There was no time to think it through; the woman had already made her move. So, Yan Ran decided to trust the name and decisively handed the gun to the boy.
Before Yan Ran could even see clearly, the boy had already pulled her behind him and pressed the gun against her head.
A flicker of joy flashed through Yan Ran's heart. With a woman moving so fast, if she had hesitated for even a second longer, her neck would probably have been snapped.
The boy's thin, blade-like lips curled into a chilling, bloodthirsty smile. "Who sent you?"
