We bear people have power
Chapter 7 As you wish
Yingcao, in the end, only found a head.
The little girl's face still showed pain and fear. Guan Bo held her little head in his arms, and for a moment he forgot even his sadness, just staring blankly into space.
After a long while, a mournful roar resounded, and a whirlwind swept through the purple bamboo forest. The immense and unparalleled demonic power uprooted large swathes of purple bamboo. With an aura of madness, Guan Bo rushed up Mount Luojia, but the black bear spirit still blocked his way.
"Get out of the way!" Guan Bo roared in a low voice, the hair on his chest already stained red with Yingcao's blood.
That little head looked increasingly pale and terrifying.
"Second brother, calm down. This girl's matter has nothing to do with the Bodhisattva," the black bear spirit advised.
"This is the Purple Bamboo Forest of Luojia Mountain, and the one inside is called Guanyin Bodhisattva, the Great Compassionate and Merciful Savior from Suffering! And now you're telling me it's none of your business?!" Guan Bo's demonic power surged, causing the earth to crack.
The black bear spirit was speechless for a moment. Although he knew in his heart that the Bodhisattva had never done such a heinous thing, it was hard to say that the Bodhisattva was completely uninvolved in such a thing that happened in the sacred Buddhist land.
Thinking of this, the black bear spirit said dejectedly, "I will go with you to find the Bodhisattva, but you must stay calm."
Guan Bo slightly restrained his demonic aura and followed behind the black bear spirit, entering the summit of Luojia Mountain for the first time and arriving at the sacred site of Guanyin Bodhisattva.
The place is filled with birdsong and fragrant flowers, and the faint sound of Buddhist chants; it is indeed a scene of earthly bliss.
There are no tall and magnificent pavilions or towers, only a natural landscape with springs, trees, winding paths, and a naturally formed wonderland.
Guan Bo had no interest in appreciating any of this; he simply held Yingcao's still-closed head and silently followed behind the Black Bear Spirit.
It wasn't until they reached the lotus pond that they saw the true face of the Bodhisattva.
The lotus throne was sacred and pure, and the Bodhisattva sat serenely upon it, showing no sign of his attitude toward the two demons.
The black bear spirit respectfully kowtowed to the Bodhisattva, but Guan Bo couldn't wait for these formalities. He stepped forward and shouted, "That monster that ate Yingcao was clearly a golden koi carp spirit from the lotus pond. Yet you, Bodhisattva, turned a blind eye and a deaf ear, letting Yingcao die a miserable death. How are you any different from the murderer?"
"Second brother, how can you be so disrespectful to the Bodhisattva?" The black bear spirit grabbed Guan Bo, only to find that his brother, who was usually lazy, was extremely strong and he almost couldn't hold him back.
The Bodhisattva was not annoyed. Instead, he said to the black bear spirit, "It's alright. He has a knot in his heart. If he cannot untie it, he will never be able to attain enlightenment and become a Buddha."
After saying that, he turned to Guan Bo and said, "You are such an unreasonable demon. As the two guardian deities of the mountain, I reminded you on the first day that you should protect the peace of this area, but you want to blame me for the death of this little girl."
“This…” Guan Bo hesitated for a moment. What he said was true, but how could Yingcao’s death be dismissed with just a few words?
"You've forced your way into Luojia Mountain now, all you want is for me to save this little girl. But have you thought this through? Is this really what you want?" The Bodhisattva didn't continue to blame him but instead exposed Guan Bo's thoughts.
"Please, Bodhisattva, save her!" Guan Bo immediately knelt down and prayed. At this moment, saving Yingcao was the key, and who was right and who was wrong was not important.
When Guanyin Bodhisattva looked at Guan Bo, Guan Bo felt as if his entire body had been seen through, leaving him with no secrets whatsoever.
"How do you want me to save her? Like this?" Guanyin Bodhisattva pulled out a willow branch and sprinkled the water from her jade bottle onto Yingcao's pale head.
Guan Bo then saw flesh and blood grow from the severed wound, and in the blink of an eye, it grew into a flawless white body.
Listen carefully, and her heartbeat and breathing returned to normal; Yingcao seemed to be fast asleep.
Guan Bo was surprised that the Bodhisattva had helped him so easily, and he quickly kowtowed in gratitude.
"Thank you for your compassion, Bodhisattva."
"No need to thank me, just see if it's what you want." The Bodhisattva's tone remained calm, but it sounded like a thunderclap to Guan Bo's ears.
Guan Bo called out to Yingcao several times, but she did not wake up.
"Bodhisattva, why is this?" Guan Bo was puzzled. Yingcao was clearly healthy, yet she was completely unaware of it.
"Do you want her to wake up?" the Bodhisattva asked again.
"Of course, what's the difference between sleeping like this and being dead?"
"Then as you wish."
The Bodhisattva sprinkled the nectar again, and Yingcao opened her eyes.
"Yingcao, you're awake? That's wonderful! How are you feeling?" Guan Bo asked happily.
When Yingcao saw Guan Bo, she just stared at him with wide eyes, her gaze filled with unfamiliarity and curiosity.
Guan Bo asked with concern, "Yingcao, what's wrong? Tell me!"
Unexpectedly, Yingcao burst into tears, kicking her limbs and crying out, "Waaah, a monster?! A monster is going to eat me!"
Guan Bo was afraid of hurting the little girl, but she broke free from his grasp and ran to the Bodhisattva's side.
"This..." Guan Bo looked at Yingcao's eyes and felt that he had lost something very special.
"Is this what you wanted?" the Bodhisattva asked again.
"May I ask the Bodhisattva, has Yingcao forgotten me or..." Guan Bo began, but couldn't quite bring himself to say it; the answer filled him with dread.
"Never known each other, how can you forget each other?" The Bodhisattva's words shattered Guan Bo's last glimmer of hope.
Guan Bo understood Guanyin Bodhisattva's meaning: Yingcao was already dead, and the little girl before him was another new life. The experiences and memories between them were naturally gone; she was just a little girl who looked very much like Yingcao.
"Bodhisattva, you're lying to me. You didn't save Yingcao," Guan Bo said angrily.
“You asked me to save this little girl, so I did. How is that deception? She is who she is, she just hasn’t had the experience of spending time with you.”
"Second brother, you must not be disrespectful to the Bodhisattva," the black bear spirit advised.
But Guan Bo ignored him completely and continued, "The Bodhisattva's abilities are boundless; creating another being is naturally a piece of cake for him. I only ask one question: where is Yingcao's soul?"
"Naturally, their souls have already returned to the underworld and entered the cycle of reincarnation."
"Since that's the case, I humbly request the Bodhisattva to save Yingcao from the cycle of reincarnation and help her be reborn."
"Birth, aging, sickness, death, and the cycle of reincarnation are the natural order, and how can they be changed at will?"
“If that’s the case, what’s the use of people praying to the Bodhisattva? What’s the use of you sitting on Mount Luojia, receiving incense offerings from all the people?” Guan Bo said without hesitation.
"Second brother! Shut up!" The black bear spirit was so anxious that he tried to gag Guan Bo.
The Bodhisattva remained unperturbed and said, “Be patient. If all sentient beings in the world could understand life and death, how could they be trapped in the sea of suffering? You ask me what use it is, and I will answer you: praying to gods and Buddhas is useless. It is better to rely on yourself than to rely on others.”
"What a fine saying, 'It's better to rely on yourself than to rely on others.' Since that's the case, I'll go ask others for help. In this world, it's not just you, Guanyin of the South Sea, who can bring the dead back to life and heal the wounded," Guan Bo said defiantly.
"Wait a minute," Guanyin Bodhisattva called out to Guan Bo.
"What, if the Bodhisattva won't save people, will he stop me from saving people?"
"No, you are free to do whatever you want, but you want to take this little girl with you. This matter started because of you, so you should bear the consequences," Guanyin Bodhisattva said to Guan Bo.
Guan Bo hesitated for a moment, looking at the little girl who was timidly hiding behind the Bodhisattva's lotus platform, that familiar face and unfamiliar eyes.
Finally, they stopped in their tracks.
