Red Dead Redemption: The Great Philanthropist of the West
Chapter 28 Plotting to Seize the Thieves' Territory
The following afternoon, everyone gathered at Henry's small ranch south of Blackwater.
"Karl, first tell me about the results of your reconnaissance this time. What information did you find out? And then, how is your attack plan arranged?"
"Let's first talk about the intelligence we've gathered:"
First, regarding the number of people, preliminary statistics show that they usually have more than 20 people, and if a small cargo ship docks, the total number can reach nearly 30.
As for weaponry, they mainly use repeating rifles and revolvers, but it should be noted that if a small cargo ship docks, there will be a Maxim heavy machine gun on board.
Then there's the fortifications and terrain. The bandit territory is basically a dock with a few houses, all surrounded by high wooden walls with guards on duty. There are also quite a few bridges inside; when attacking, be careful of enemies hiding under the bridges to ambush you.
We have several alternative plans in place:
The first and most effective method is to use fire. Their houses are mostly wooden, so throwing in some Molotov cocktails would easily burn them all down. However, this would require us to spend more time and money rebuilding.
The second plan is to send two people to their camp to lure them out, while the rest of us lie in ambush along the way, slowly wearing them down. Then we can launch a full-scale attack. However, this carries the risk of manpower losses.
The third option is to drug their drinks, but this is difficult to execute and carries a high risk for the person doing it, because they brew their own liquor and generally don't buy it from outside sources. Drugging them would require infiltrating the premises. There are too many uncertainties.
Henry didn't offer his own opinion, but instead turned to Jack Roberts.
"Robert, what's your opinion? What do you think is the best way to attack?"
"Boss, I don't think any of these plans are suitable to be executed individually. We shouldn't limit our thinking; why can't we integrate these plans? Also, there are two very important points that weren't mentioned in the plan. One is the enemy's work schedule and patrol manpower, which is crucial for choosing the right time to attack. The other is how to defend against the Maxim machine gun, a terrifying killing weapon. We must take it out first, or we will suffer heavy losses."
"Very good. If you were in charge of organizing, how would you launch the attack?"
"First, I need someone among us who can quietly board that small cargo ship and take control of that Maxim, at the very least, prevent it from starting."
Henry looked around and, seeing no one step forward, asked Li Yi, who was following behind him. Li Yi was now Henry's personal bodyguard; wherever Henry was, he was there too.
"Li Yi, if we ask you to go, are you confident in your abilities?"
“If no one attracts my attention, I’m only 50% sure I can climb up without alerting anyone. If someone does attract their attention, I’m 80% sure.”
"Okay, I'll have Li Yi accompany you then. Robert, you continue."
“When the time comes, Li Yi, you should lie in wait. I will send a sniper…” Robert paused for a moment and then asked, “Which of you knows how to use a sniper rifle?”
In the end, only one veteran stepped forward, but he admitted he had only used it a few times and wasn't very accurate, probably hitting the target 5 out of 10 times. Henry's sniping skills were quite impressive (who can blame him, he had a cheat code; with Dead Eye activated, he could take down an enemy with a single shot), but he didn't plan to participate. This trip was just to train the team and observe their abilities.
Since he made a living this way, if he's not capable enough and gets taken down by someone else, he can't blame anyone else. At most, he'll get some extra compensation.
"Who knows how to use a bow and arrow, or throwing knives, or any other ability to silently and quickly eliminate enemies at close to medium range? Who knows how to use a Maxim gun?" This time, Robert asked about all the abilities he needed to know beforehand, so as not to be interrupted later.
The final choices were Antora, who knew archery; a bounty hunter, who knew throwing knives; and someone who knew darts, but he didn't bring his darts this time. Only Sheriff Tom Smith had ever used a Maxim machine gun.
"Okay, next, let me repeat myself if I were to organize this."
First, I will set the attack time at 2 a.m., which is the time when people sleep the most soundly at night and are most likely to feel sleepy.
I will have Li Yi and Smith lie in wait near the small cargo ship.
In addition, I will arrange two snipers, one is myself, and the other is Veteran A. I will go to the high ground opposite the bandit territory in advance to lie in ambush. Veteran A will lie in ambush on the high ground south of the bandit territory in advance.
Then it's Antora and Bounty Hunter A's turn. First, use arrows and throwing knives to shoot down the sentries. The others should seize the opportunity to sneak in and silently kill the sleeping enemies. If the enemy is alerted, start killing them immediately, but be careful not to kill the leader, as the boss still needs to be informed.
After alerting the enemy, Li Yi, you can board the ship and eliminate the enemies inside. Once the enemies on the ship are cleared, Smith, you can board and use the Maxim gun to eliminate the remaining enemies. I will keep a close watch on the cargo ship and provide escort for you.
Sniper veteran A observes the entire area from a distance, and once the enemy is alerted, prioritizes shooting down threatening targets.
If we succeed without alerting the enemy, we can silently eliminate all the enemies in the camps and then take out the enemies on the ship together.
Even if we accidentally alert the enemy while sneaking up to kill them, following my plan, a direct assault would not be a problem at all.
After all, we have a sharpshooter (Grant), a legendary bounty hunter (Ellie Johnson), several top-notch gunmen (Carl and his team), and Dr. Jones to provide life support if we get injured.
That's the plan. If anyone has any opinions, additions, or questions, please feel free to raise them, and we'll work together to resolve them.
“I have a problem with that. If we all go out, who will protect the boss?” Henry had never shown his strength to Li Yi, so he didn’t know that Henry was actually the strongest among them. Li Yi only knew that Henry had a strong ability to learn physical techniques and a robust physique.
"Don't worry, I can protect myself. I'll provide logistical support for you along with Dr. Jones." Henry smiled and patted Li Yi to reassure him.
Seeing that no one had any objections, Robert looked at Henry, waiting for him to make the decision.
Henry clapped his hands. "Good, no one has any objections, so let's proceed as planned. Everyone, have a good meal and drinks, then go to sleep, and we'll all go together tonight."
