Chapter 61 (Knowing the Secret) - Traces Side Story

That night, Kavi was so frightened that he fainted. Elheisen, noticing Kavi's unconsciousness, quickly checked on him. Realizing he had simply fainted from fright, he felt reassured and clung to Kavi before going to sleep.

A gentle breeze blew through the window and woke Kavi in the early morning. Even after waking, Kavi was still shaken. He turned to look at Elheisen; there was nothing wrong with him—it was still that face, not the snake face.

Kavi breathed a sigh of relief, but then he immediately realized something was wrong. Why couldn't he move anything from his waist down?!

Kavi felt the weight on his body and, like an elderly man, shakily threw off his blanket. He saw a silvery-white tail wrapped around him from waist to toe, not very tightly. But Kavi remained frozen, too terrified to utter a sound.

Elheisen snapped out of his daze the moment Kavi looked at him. He smiled as Kavi threw back the covers and fell into a daze. Not hearing the expected scream, Elheisen raised an eyebrow. He then sat up and pulled the wooden-like Kavi into his arms.

"Kavi, what's wrong?"

Upon hearing Elhesen's voice, Kavi snapped out of his daze, "You...look, a snake...it's a snake!"

"Yes, it's a snake."

As he spoke, Elhesen grasped Kavi's hand and guided it to his waist and abdomen. Then, moving downwards, he touched the skin that connected to the scales.

Kavi's hands trembled as he struggled to let go. But Elhesen was clearly stronger, and he couldn't escape. Kavi could only tremble as he touched the scales that terrified him.

"Don't be afraid, see, it's nothing."

Alheisen's gentle voice guided Kavi, and Kavi's heart gradually calmed down. Listening to Alheisen's voice, he told himself that it was alright, this was Alheisen, he wouldn't hurt him.

Strangely enough, as his fingertips stroked the snake, Kavi became less afraid. However, his childhood fear of snakes still made him flinch slightly. Nevertheless, in Elhesen's opinion, everything was developing as he had expected, which was not bad.

Kavi spent the entire morning in a daze, feeling as if he were still dreaming. Elhesen helped the dazed Kavi wash up and get dressed. After breakfast, Elhesen went to his study to read as usual, with Kavi following behind him like a lost soul.

It wasn't until nearly noon that Kavi realized the truth. He then resumed his usual noisy behavior, standing in front of Elhesen's table, slamming his hand on the table and shouting at him.

"You despicable Elhesen, you've been lying to me all along! You're an orc too, and a snake at that!"

Only then did Kavi understand what Tinari meant back then, and what Seno wanted to say but didn't.

Al-Hysen put down his book, propped his chin on his hand, and looked up at Kavi, who was puffing up like a mushroom beast. "What did I lie to you about? I never told you directly that I was human, did I?"

"But you never said you were an orc! And a snake at that! Can't you be as honest as Tinari?"

"And then wander around Sumeru City with a tail trailing behind?"

Kavi was speechless at Elhesen's words. He understood that Elhesen, this clean-loving fellow, would never get covered in dirt, let alone drag his tail around.

"But you can't...you can't just not tell me!"

Kavi couldn't immediately figure out what Elheisen had done wrong, but after thinking for a while, he came up with this reason. Elheisen didn't want to argue with him, after all, Kavi had really been scared unconscious last night.

"Okay, it's all my fault, so can you forgive me, senior?"

Elhesen lowered his head, and Kavi felt a pang of sympathy looking at his fluffy head. It was rare for Elhesen to not argue with him, and he even softened his stance, which instantly stirred his heart as the senior student.

"Ahem, alright, I'll forgive you then. You didn't mean it."

Kavi tilted his head back, crossed his arms, and replied to Elhesen triumphantly, looking like a proud little bird. Elhesen's eyes were smiling as he looked at Kavi with tenderness.

In the following days, under Kavi's explicit prohibition, Elhesen refrained from clinging to Kavi at night, which allowed Kavi to get a few good nights' sleep. Elhesen didn't resist; it was rare for him to listen to Kavi.

A few days later, Kavi had gotten used to Elhesen being a snake. One leisurely afternoon, Kavi mustered up his courage and approached Elhesen, expressing his desire to take a closer look at his beast form.

According to Kavi, since they lived together, such things were unavoidable, and it was better for him to get used to it. Elhesen didn't refuse; he led Kavi to his bedroom, quickly took off his clothes, revealing his muscular physique, and instead of transforming into a full snake, he first revealed his long tail.

Then, it swam over to the somewhat dazed Kavi and took his hand in itss. Its tail coiled around Kavi's legs, and its eyes, slightly altered by its beast form, were fixed on Kavi, observing his every move.

Kavi glanced at Elheisen's face, then trembled slightly as he touched the tail that was wrapped around him. After bravely taking that first step, Kavi wasn't so afraid anymore. Once he got used to it, he even traced the shapes of the scales with his fingertips with interest. The smooth, cool feel lessened Kavi's fear, and he looked up at Elheisen innocently, "It's not that scary."

Elheisen stared at Kavi and smiled. His bright red pupils contracted, then contracted again, until they completely transformed into the vertical pupils of a snake. Kavi saw a giant snake, raising its head to look at him.

A moment of panic made Kavi want to run out the door. He put down his fingers that were touching the scales and tried to rush to the door, forgetting that the snake's tail was still wrapped around his leg. Of course, he couldn't escape, and Elhesen wouldn't let Kavi leave so easily. To Kavi, the large, silvery-white snake was both terrifying and strangely beautiful and elegant.

The snake's upper body moved closer to him, and Kavi should have been afraid. But looking into those eyes, Kavi wasn't afraid. Those lake-green eyes remained calm. Kavi could see the love in that calmness.

Kavi also loved him, so he was willing to accept the love from Elhesen, and even more so from the giant serpent before him.

Kavi reached out and bravely hugged the snake's head from below. The snake was also quiet, making no big movements, and quietly let Kavi hug it.

Finally, Kavi said to Elhesen, "Elhesen, I'm still a little scared, but not as scared as before." As he spoke, he stroked the scales on the snake's snout with his soft fingers.

The snake finally lowered its head, its verdant eyes fixed only on the person before it.
