Chapter 59 (Knowing the Subtle) Traces
Since receiving the medicine kit from Elhesen, Kavi has never had the same dream again, but he still has difficulty waking up when he is in a daze in the early morning.
An even stranger thing happened: while cleaning, Kavi found a silver scale.
It was found in the corner of his wardrobe, actually hidden very well. If the weather hadn't been so nice that day, and if Kavi hadn't noticed the scale's shimmering light when he opened the wardrobe to pick out clothes, the scale might have stayed in the wardrobe much longer.
Kavi picked up the scale and examined it. It had to be said that it somewhat suited Kavi's aesthetic sensibilities. It was crystal clear, with sharp edges, and even refracted a beautiful light effect in the sunlight.
But then Kavi remembered a dream he'd had a few days ago, and a chill ran down his spine. To be honest, Kavi had always been a little afraid of snakes. In his mind, snakes were cold-blooded animals, their muscles beneath their scales capable of easily strangling their prey.
As a child, Kavi witnessed snakes hunting in videos, which left him with a deep-seated fear. Even now, as an adult, Kavi remains afraid of such creatures.
Kavi's face turned pale as he looked at the scales in his hand. Each scale was the size of his palm; how big must the snake have been!
So when Al-Hysen returned home that day, he found Kavi curled up on the sofa, trembling like a timid fawn, wary of everything around him.
Alheisen's return home was a great comfort to Kavi. Kavi rushed towards Alheisen the moment he saw him. Alheisen was utterly astonished; he swore he had never received such a warm welcome from Kavi.
Alheisen held Kavi, who was clinging to him. Kavi was still trembling slightly, perhaps from fear. Alheisen patted Kavi's back and asked gently, "...Perhaps you could tell me what happened?"
Kavi clung to Elhesen like a koala, shouting, "Something terrible has happened! Elhesen!"
Kavi took a deep breath. "There are snakes in the house!"
Upon hearing Kavi's words, Elhesen's red pupils, like those of a beast, momentarily turned vertical, then returned to normal. Kavi, nestled in Elhesen's arms, naturally didn't notice the change.
Why did you feel there was a snake? Where was it? Did it bite you?
Upon hearing Elhesen's question, Kavi immediately took out the silver scale that he had been holding in his hand.
"Look, look, these are snake scales. There's absolutely no mistake."
Kavi's eyes were a little red as he struggled to raise his hand and hand the scales to Elhesen. Having spent the entire afternoon alone in the living room, Kavi had tried his best, but the psychological fear was still very tormenting.
Looking at the scales, Elhesen secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness.
He immediately comforted the senior in his arms, "It's okay, let me look for it. Maybe it's a scale from a long time ago, and you just happened to find it."
Then, Alheisen and Kavi searched every corner of the house, but of course, they found nothing. Kavi followed Alheisen closely; he had never relied on him like this before. Normally, the two of them would be bickering and arguing.
Looking at the unusually well-behaved Kavi, Elhesen concluded with a hint of pleasure, "See, there's nothing there."
After following Elhesen through every corner, Kavi finally felt relieved and less afraid. Then, he thought of the dream that had troubled him for a long time, and Kavi's voice trembled.
"Before... before, the thing in my dream must have been a snake!"
Al-Hysen raised an eyebrow. "Even if it was a snake, it didn't harm you. Perhaps it just really likes you?"
Upon hearing Elhesen's words, Kavi immediately retorted, "No, no, no, you don't understand. That snake must have wanted to strangle me and then eat me. I just don't know why it let me go in the end."
Al-Hysen's expression darkened upon hearing Kavi's words. He didn't reply, but instead led Kavi back to the sofa, telling him to sit there obediently while he went to make dinner.
Kavi didn't want to stay there alone; he clung to Elhesen like a fledgling bird, gripping his clothes tightly and refusing to let go. Helpless, Elhesen could only cook along with the little creature attached to him.
After dinner, Kavi clung to Elhesen's side, refusing to leave, and Elhesen didn't object. Perhaps because Kavi was still afraid of the snake, the two were quiet together, unusually without arguing.
Al-Hysen's inspection of the house and the harmonious atmosphere in the evening lowered Kavi's guard. As he went to sleep, he glanced at the medicine bag on the bedside table, then closed his eyes peacefully.
That night, Kavi slept soundly for the first half, but things started to feel strange in the second half. In his dream, he could feel something wrapped around him again, cool and slightly slippery. In his hazy state of consciousness, Kavi's first thought was still of that snake.
"Stop bothering me." Kavi murmured in his sleep. He tried to open his eyes, but his eyelids felt like they were being pulled down by a thousand pounds, and he couldn't open them no matter what he did. The cold thing was still wrapped around Kavi, and he couldn't break free or escape.
Tears welled up in Kavi's eyes, and the thing clinging to him seemed to notice. Kavi could feel something cold approaching his face, and then a long, thin, cold object touched him and wiped away the tears from his eyes.
Kavi was still terrified. The dream was long, and Kavi didn't know when he lost consciousness and fell asleep. His last memory was of being entangled, and the thing gently patted his back as if it were pampering him, coaxing him to sleep.
The first thing Kavi did upon waking the next day was rush to the bathroom and lift his pajamas. Sure enough, he saw red marks wrapped around his body. Some of the mottled red marks were tightly imprinted on his fair waist and abdomen, looking somewhat ambiguous, but Kavi felt a chill run down his spine.
Kavi reached out and touched the red marks with trembling hands. They didn't hurt, just felt slightly itchy when touched with his fingertips. Kavi quickly tidied himself up and left the bedroom, heading straight for the study. Elhesen was there reading a book.
When Al-Hysen saw Kavi rushing into the study, he didn't look up, but a slight smile appeared on his lips.
“You got up very early today. If you want breakfast, there’s some in the kitchen, but not in the study.”
Ignoring everything else, Kavi strode up to Alhesen, put down the book in his hand, and lifted his own shirt. Looking at Alhesen with a pitiful and endearing expression, he said frantically, "There's a snake! There's a snake! Alhesen...it tried to eat me again last night, it's been tangling with me."
