Chapter 46 (Empty) Ode to the Wind 2

The little doll, covered in wounds, finally fainted, clutching tightly to Sora's clothes as if afraid he would run away again. Sora took the doll back to the palace, took off his clothes, and applied medicine to his wounds. While applying the medicine, Sora could clearly see the doll's injuries. He was heartbroken; he didn't understand how his beloved had become like this.

Why did I leave? What did I do wrong? The little doll sat quietly under that maple tree for a long time, trying hard to figure out what he had done wrong, but he couldn't understand. He couldn't find his lover either; spring came and autumn went, summer was hot and winter was cold, and he waited for his lover for a long time.

Until the maple tree's branches and leaves grew lush again, the leaves turning from verdant green to deep red, and then falling again with the wind. The little doll finally realized that his lover would not return. At that moment, he could only comfort himself, thinking that perhaps they would meet again in the future. Holding onto this beautiful hope, the little doll bowed his head and wept once more. His first tears had led to his "mother" abandoning him, and now he had lost his lover. But what had he done wrong?

Luckily and unfortunately, the Kabuto encountered some new human friends. They were kind, gentle, and compassionate, accepting him when he was penniless. Being with them was the happiest time the little doll had experienced since leaving his lover. But happiness was fleeting; the demon's corruption brought terrifying consequences, and the doll's pleas for help from the gods went unanswered. Rescue was slow to arrive, until the land was devastated and littered with corpses.

Finally, he silently entered the furnace, flames engulfing him. He thought of his lover, not for the first time, nor for the last. How he wished that Sora could appear here and take him away. If he could see him, see his golden, dazzling, gentle lover, the doll would surely rush into his arms. He would go anywhere in the world, as long as he could be by his side.

Unfortunately, there was nothing but flames. He was burned all over, his ten fingers were destroyed, and he was abandoned once again.

Next, the little doll, exhausted both physically and mentally, met a child. Like him, the child had no family or support. They promised to be each other's family, taking care of one another, and enjoying another brief period of happiness. But this blissful time was short-lived, or rather, those who are Kabuto are inherently forced to face hardship.

The child died of illness.

When the Kabutoshi returned with food as usual, he opened the door to find only a cold corpse. She would never smile at him again, never act cute. At that moment, the Kabutoshi's world seemed to collapse. He prayed one last time for his lover to appear. Tears fell to the ground, but nothing came. The happiness they once shared vanished like bubbles.

He will never expect it again.

After wandering for an unknown period, the puppet joined the Fatui by chance. His missions improved with each success, and the Ice Queen finally met him. Eventually, he became an Executor, codenamed Skirmisher. Now, his mission is to explore the Abyss, but unexpectedly, he encounters the person he once missed most.

The abyss was dark and gloomy, and time passed unnoticed.

When the stragglers awoke, the first thing they saw was this magnificent palace. I clearly saw that guy; there was no way I could have been mistaken. He struggled to sit up, but found it difficult to move because his wounds had been meticulously treated and wrapped in many bandages, making it hard for him to move.

The soldier sneered, then forcefully ripped off the bandages on his arm. The wound reopened, and bright red blood trickled down his arm, dripping onto the floor. Kong entered the room at that moment. Seeing his doll had injured him, a moment of irrationality made his voice tremble.

"What are you doing? Stop! You're bleeding! Doesn't it hurt?"

The skirmisher had spotted him as Kong entered, but driven by a strange emotion he himself didn't understand, Kong still managed to loosen the bandages on his arms and then tried to tear off the bandages on his waist. He coldly retorted, "What's it to you?"

The soldier didn't look at Kong; he only looked at the blood flowing down his arm. A contemptuous expression crossed his face as he stretched out his still-dripping arm and viciously ripped at his abdomen. Kong grabbed the soldier's hand, carefully avoiding the wound. The soldier could feel Kong's hand trembling slightly, but he only felt a little ridiculous. What was this? He was just putting on an act again, deceiving people.

Kong looked somewhat bewildered; his little doll had changed a lot in ways he didn't know.

"...I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

Sora didn't know what to say. Regardless, he knew he was the one who had done wrong. He shouldn't have left without saying goodbye; he shouldn't have just left him in Inazuma like that. He had firmly believed that it was for their own good. He just wanted the little doll to live happily, even if she met new friends, new companions, or even new family. That would be far better than her falling into the abyss with him.

Sora dared not look at the little doll, partly because he feared he might endanger it, and partly because he feared the doll had given up on him and trusted someone else. He was even more afraid of seeing the innocent, gentle doll nestled in someone else's arms, a tender smile on its face, just as it had once nestled in his own. Therefore, Sora never bothered to investigate anything about his little lover.

Now, he finally realized that things hadn't gone as he'd imagined. The doll wasn't doing well either; it had even grown cold and broken. He was wrong.

The soldier pulled his hand away from Kong's and looked at Kong, who was still trembling slightly. "I'm leaving here," he said, and walked towards the door. He no longer had any expectations of this guy. But the soldier couldn't deny that when he saw Kong, he felt that old feeling again.

This feeling disgusted him; even after everything he'd been through, he couldn't become emotionally numb. The soldier hated himself; he loathed the part of himself that still clung to this former lover. So, he decided to leave, at least for now, to avoid seeing this guy again.

Seeing the stragglers leaving, Kong hurriedly stopped him.

"At least let your wounds heal a little, okay?"

"Get out of my way," the skirmisher replied coldly. "I don't want to see you."

"Even if you don't want to see me, at least heal your wounds. I'll stay away from you, okay? Please."

When Kong heard the soldier's reply, he felt a pang of pain in his heart. But he still tried his best to stop his little doll. It stood in front of him, looking at him stubbornly, as if to say, "You won't leave unless you agree."

The stragglers looked into his eyes, knowing they couldn't break out like this, and could only lie back down in the bed they'd been in when they woke up. Then, feeling slightly weary, they closed their eyes, not wanting to look at the void again.
