Chapter 42 (Knowing the Subtle) The Bird's Poem 8

El-Heisen felt heartache for the first time since losing Kavi.

He recalled their life long ago, how Kavi hatched from an egg, and how clingy he was even as an egg. As he grew up, he chattered incessantly in his ear, always wanting to be by his side, and was extremely dependent on him.

Elhesen disliked the quiet around him; he felt lonely. He couldn't concentrate on his book either, because when he looked up, he could no longer see Kavi's small figure. These past few days had been the most irrational period of his life.

Three days passed, and Elhesen still couldn't find Kavi. Calming down, he realized it was Wenna who had opened the birdcage that day. He found Wenna and didn't make things difficult for her. Wenna also told him that Kavi would return.

With such expectations in mind, Elhesen waited patiently.

Kavi is now deep in the forest. He can see some little creatures that adults cannot see—Lannaro.

These tiny creatures are innocent and kind, willing to trust and help their friends. Kavi encountered many such friends while playing outside, and became very good friends with them.

Kavi didn't hate Elheisen, even though Elheisen had gone against his will, robbed him of his most cherished freedom, and locked him in a cage. Kavi didn't hate Elheisen either. Kavi felt he loved Elheisen, but Elheisen was a fool; he needed to be loved patiently.

Therefore, Kavi decided to become a normal human being who could live with Elhesen. If they could live together as humans, they could go for walks together, go shopping together, and paint together.

If everyone knew that he was Elhesen's lover, they would smile knowingly when they saw them, and everyone would know that they belonged to each other. Elhesen would no longer be afraid.

Yes, Kavi could see Elheisen's unease. But Kavi didn't know the reason for it. However, Kavi was patient; he believed that problems should be solved, not avoided with clumsy methods. In this matter, Elheisen was a fool. That's what Kavi thought.

Finding his Lannaro friends was easy, but finding what he truly desired was not. Kavi wanted to find the Gate of Dreams; by passing its trials, he could gain the power to grant his wishes. The Gate of Dreams was a legend existing in the forest, and Kavi had only heard Lannaro sing of it. Kavi asked Lannaro, but they didn't know where the Gate of Dreams was either.

Lannaro trusted Kavi and took him to Huanalana. There, Kavi visited the eldest Lannaro and received his help. Although they couldn't find the destination directly, Kavi finally learned the approximate location of the Dream Gate. Kavi carefully searched the area for a long time, with many Lannaros helping him along the way. Finally, Kavi found the true Dream Gate.

Through the thin mist, the seemingly alive wooden archway stood upright on the ground, its outer side a deep brown, while the inner side was indeed tinged with the tender green of new life. Fluorescent lights of various sizes surrounded the archway, making it appear exceptionally sacred at that moment.

This is the Gate of Dreams.

Kavi flew towards the ground at the center of the archway, where a bright, dazzling light drew people in. Kavi stood in the light. Suddenly, strange elemental creatures appeared before him, and then a gentle voice sounded beside him.

"...In the garden of dreams, gather the seeds of illusions. Child of man, let dreams return to your heart..."

Kavi followed the green elements, collecting them along the way. Along the way, he also encountered many fungus and slimes. Unlike his friends, these creatures were extremely irritable and unwilling to communicate properly, only interested in causing trouble for Kavi.

However, Kavi was also very capable. He collected all the Dream Seeds intact, brought them back to the Dream Gate, and enshrined them. Although Kavi's clothes were messy and his usually carefully maintained golden hair was covered with dust and weeds, his eyes were still bright and full of anticipation.

As expected, Kavi's body grew larger, his wings slowly shrank and then disappeared, leaving a red mark on his back.

Kavi finally achieved his wish; he became a human. Kavi was overjoyed, thinking, "Now I can go back to that idiot."

I wonder how Elhesen is doing lately, and if he misses me. There's no way to put him back in the cage now; I'd better just let him do as he says!

Finally, on a beautiful evening with a stunning sunset, someone knocked on the door.

Elheisen was dressed in his usual clothes, looking neat and tidy, with nothing wrong. But Kavi still noticed something was amiss; his small cloak was slightly crooked, something he would never normally make a mistake about.

Kavi smiled at Elhesen and called out loudly, "I'm back, Elhesen!" His smile was brighter than the sun.

To Elhesen's astonishment, Kavi, who appeared before him, had a body the same size as his own, and the wings that had once graced his back were nowhere to be seen. He looked just like a real human.

Even as his emotions surged like a flood, Elhesen calmly observed Kavi. Only when Kavi announced his return did he instinctively reply, "Welcome home." After speaking, he realized how hoarse his voice was. Water droplets seemed to trickle down his face.

A gentle breeze blew away the water droplets. Kavi sighed and reached out to touch Elhesen's damp face. He spoke to him as if comforting a child, "Don't cry. You're so old, why are you still crying? I'm back, I won't leave you. I'll always be with you, and you'll never get rid of me."

Elheisen hugged Kavi tightly. Kavi could feel Elheisen's heart pounding; this was the first time he had hugged Elheisen since growing larger. It was a wonderful feeling, and Kavi liked it very much.

After calming down, Elhesen finally released Kavi. Kavi cupped Elhesen's cheeks with his hands, wiping the dampness from his face, and pulled his head down as if he were still a child. But this time, the kiss didn't land on his nose; it fell on his lips.

The gentle breeze wipes away your tears, representing my boundless love.

As I stroke your cheek, my love can no longer be hidden.
