Chapter 43 (Chimyo) Bird's Poem Side Story
Kavi remembered the candy he had promised Wenna, and he was a little troubled. Kavi rarely ate sweets and didn't know what kind of candy to give Wenna. Kavi told Elheisen about it. After a brief thought, Elheisen told him he would bring it back for him the next day.
The next day, Elhesen brought back several boxes of date and honey candy. Kavi picked one up with some skepticism and tasted it; hmm, it was indeed very sweet. "I'll give this to them," he thought, "and I'll prepare a nice box for it!"
Wenna remained a busy secretary at the Order of the Church. She enjoyed this life, free from the need to worry about other trivial matters, focusing solely on fulfilling her duties.
When Kavi found Wenna, she had just finished delivering documents all day and was sitting on a roadside chair, swinging her legs and looking at a sketchbook. Suddenly, a shadow fell over her, and Wenna looked up. She saw a familiar face.
"You! Are you Kavi? You've really grown up!"
Wenna jumped up from her chair excitedly and circled around Kavi. Kavi smiled, gently pressed Wenna's head down, and handed her the candy box.
"It's me, it's me. I've come to bring you your reward. This is delicious, it was found by Elhesen."
Wenna took the candy, holding it in both hands and looking at the beautiful box in the sunlight. The translucent box had stripes of different colors that sparkled like jewels in the sunlight.
Wenna happily hugged the box to her chest. "It's so wonderful that you and Lord Elhesen have made up. Lord Elhesen came to find me earlier."
Noticing Kavi's changed expression, Wenna explained, "Lord Elhesen didn't do anything to me. He just asked me what happened that day. I told him you would come back, and that everything would be alright as long as we waited patiently."
"Thank goodness, you really came back."
Wenna's eyes crinkled with a smile, her face radiating contentment. For her, helping those she wanted to help was a wonderful thing. She had only mentioned candy to help Kavi relax, but she hadn't expected him to remember it. Afterwards, the two chatted for a few more minutes. After their brief separation, the two gentle people remained good friends. After chatting for a while, Wenna said goodbye to Kavi; she still needed to finish her remaining work and couldn't slack off any longer.
Kavi returned home after saying goodbye. Elheisen, who had come home from get off work on time, was greeted by Kavi. They had dinner together, then went for a walk before returning home together. After washing up, they sat together on the sofa. Elheisen picked up his book again, and Kavi sat close beside him. Since growing up, Kavi felt that many things had changed.
The sofa that once allowed him to fly a distance wasn't as big anymore; the two of them could easily lean against each other. The vase that used to get him all dirty could now be picked up by hand. The biggest change, yet still familiar to Kavi, was the person standing before him, Elhesen.
Kavi grasped Elhesen's hand and placed it on his lap. He then brought his own hand closer to compare, noting it was only slightly larger. Kavi attempted to envelop his fist in Elhesen's palm.
It still feels very warm, a feeling I've always loved.
Suddenly, Elhesen released his grip. Kavi then realized that Elhesen had put down his book sometime earlier. Elhesen opened Kavi's fist, flattened it, and then covered it with his own hand, interlocking their fingers.
"This is holding hands."
A smile played on Elhesen's eyes, like a gentle, emerald sea enveloping Kavi. Kavi felt the sensation in his hands, a sensation he hadn't experienced when he was a small child.
Kavi laughed too, a smile of ease and contentment on his face. He looked up and kissed Elhesen's cheek, a small kiss like a new flower blooming in spring, gentle and comforting.
Al-Hysen's earlobes were slightly red, which Kavi noticed. He immediately burst into laughter, unable to straighten up.
"Wow, you're so innocent!"
Kavi grinned and leaned close to Elhesen, kissing him repeatedly on the cheek. Elhesen didn't resist, indulging Kavi's kisses and laughing incessantly.
When Kavi calmed down, Elhesen pulled him into his arms and asked, "Where are your wings?"
Kavi, somewhat weary, nestled in Elhesen's arms. Hearing his question, he guided Kavi's hand to his back. Elhesen followed Kavi's touch and found a patch of crimson lines.
"It's hidden here. Want to take a look?"
As Elhesen nodded, Kavi slightly moved Elhesen's fingers away, and a pair of crimson wings unfurled. The feathers of the wings remained smooth and lustrous, with pale reddish-golden tips and vibrant deep reddish-brown hues at the base, creating an overall gradient effect.
When their wings spread, a bright red reflection shone around them. The red also clung to Elhesen's eyes, complementing his crimson pupils. The two reflected each other, creating a translucent light.
Kavi lay on Elhesen's lap, letting him stroke his wings. He trusted Elhesen. This trust was innate, present from the moment he gained consciousness.
When Kavi was still an egg, he could vaguely sense that someone was taking care of him. Sometimes, this person would move him around and shine a strange light on him. It was a strange person, not shy at all, so Kavi used his own power to block the light and prevent the person from seeing him.
But Kavi still became curious about Elheisenberg. He followed this man around, reading, eating, working... there was absolutely no entertainment. It was incredibly boring. But then, he noticed his warm, comforting hands. Kavi liked them, so he decided to look at him and stay by his side.
Elhesen's palms touched the wing bones, his soft fingertips caressing the soft feathers. The touch was wonderful, so gentle. Elhesen cherished the wings, almost thinking he was about to lose Kavi.
No one knows what Elheisen felt when he saw Kavi return. The fear of Kavi's departure that once haunted him with nightmares was gone. He felt his once empty heart filled with warmth once more. That day, gazing at the golden figure before him, he shed tears. Not tears of sadness, but more of a feeling of something lost and then found. He struggled to describe that sudden surge of emotion, but he was no longer afraid of Kavi's departure.
It turns out that birds really will resolutely throw themselves into my arms.
Then let him be free.
As long as he belongs to me, I will no longer be afraid of a short separation.
This vast sky, this free land, and my burning heart—all belong to you.
