Chapter 34 (Sati) A Traveler Returns Home on a Snowy Night
It rarely snows in Sumeru, and such a scattered and disorderly snowfall is even rarer. The heavy snow made the sky very dark, and all you could see when you looked up was a gray haze.
"Master, it's snowing outside!"
Cole spoke to Tinari with a rare burst of girlish excitement. Her childhood experiences, coupled with years of suffering from illness, had made Cole more reserved than most girls. When Seno brought her back, Tinari, inexperienced, didn't know what to do.
Fortunately, Cole was a very obedient child with a great love for knowledge. All Tinari needed to do was teach her all sorts of things she enjoyed. However, such outstanding children were always a source of great anticipation, and even Tinari couldn't resist adding new knowledge to her already established foundation. Cole never disappointed him, and even brought him surprise after surprise.
"Then go out and take a look. Remember to wear a jacket and be careful not to get frostbite," Tinari carefully instructed Cole. Tinari always couldn't help but worry about Cole, this good boy.
"Cole, let's go build a snowman!" A little girl, also a forest ranger, waved to Cole from outside the window.
Cole was somewhat tempted and looked at Tinari, who nodded and smiled in return. Then, Cole put on her coat and ran out excitedly.
Since the Little Grass God took control of Sumeru, the dead zones in the forest have stopped growing and have even weakened. For the forest rangers who spend their days in the forest, their tasks have naturally become easier. Life has become happier, which is why we see several children playing together like this now.
Tinari straightened his clothes, watching Kolei run off with a gentle expression. Listening to the girls' laughter, Tinari felt relaxed. He sat down at the table, jotting down many details of recent events. His notebook was filled with scattered entries about daily life: finding strange mushrooms in the forest, encountering and bringing back lost adventurers, and Kolei's progress on her homework for the day…
Time passed quietly, and snow enveloped the forest until night fell.
As darkness fell completely, the snow began to fall again, drifting and swirling continuously. The wind picked up as well, whistling past the window. Tinari could clearly hear the wind pounding against the door.
In the afternoon, Cole went out to play in the snow. I wonder if she caught a cold. Tinari thought to herself, feeling a little worried, so she went to the door next door and knocked.
"Come in, Master."
Cole walked to the door and opened it.
When Tinari entered, he saw Cole sitting at a table with a letter and several pens on it. Cole followed Tinari's gaze to the items on the table. Slightly embarrassed, he scratched his head. "This is a letter to Amber. It snowed heavily today, so I took some pictures to send to her."
"By the way, is there anything I can help you with, Master?"
Tina nodded and took out the herbal medicine in her hand. "Although you are cured, you still need to prevent catching a cold. Drink some of this; it's not bitter."
Cole frowned slightly, but still took the bowl. He took a sip and found it wasn't bitter at all, and even had a slight floral scent. He obediently finished it all. Tinari watched Cole drink the medicine, a smile appearing on his face.
"Okay, cover yourself up well tonight and go to bed early."
"Ok."
Cole responded.
Tinari returned to his room, turned on a small lamp, and sat on the edge of his bed to read some miscellaneous books. These were books that Seno had brought back, supposedly works by Inazuma Yaedo. He hadn't read them much before, but now that he had some free time, he found them quite interesting. After reading for a while, Tinari thought of Seno.
Counting the days, it should be time for Seno to take a vacation. The weather outside is bad; I hope he doesn't come back today. Tinari thought to himself, a little worried.
Under the light of the bedside lamp, Tinari slowly read the novel in her hands. Suddenly, she heard rustling footsteps outside the door, in addition to the sounds of wind and snow. Then, she felt someone opening the door. Tinari put down her book, put on a coat, and went to the living room.
He already guessed who was outside the door. The only other person with a house key was this idiot.
Sure enough, after entering the room, the person took off his black hood, revealing silver-white hair.
"Huh? You're still awake?"
Seno looked at Tinari with some surprise and continued to take off his snow-covered cloak. Tinari took a towel and wiped the snow off Seno's head as he took off his clothes. Seno stood there obediently, letting Tinari wipe him, his dark red eyes fixed on Tinari.
"You're so stupid! The weather was so bad today, and you still braved the snow to come back late at night. You're so stupid. Besides, even if I'm asleep, you'll still wake me up with your icy body inside my blankets."
As Tinari spoke, he tidied up Seno's clothes. After finishing, he pinched Seno's cold face and scolded him.
"But I miss you so much. I finally got a vacation and I wanted to come back."
Seno didn't dare to fight back after being reprimanded by Tinari, and looked pitifully as he explained to Tinari. Tinari was easily swayed by this, and seeing Seno's aggrieved face, like a big dog, Tinari didn't want to punish him anymore. Instead, he turned around and went to the kitchen to heat up a bowl of medicine that Cole had just drunk.
Seno stayed close to Tinari, and when he stopped in front of the pot, he wrapped his arms around Tinari's waist from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder. "I don't want to drink bitter medicine," he said listlessly.
"I'll give you something bitter to drink, this is very bitter."
Tinari chuckled, then threatened Seno. Seno felt extremely wronged, but dared not speak, afraid of angering him again.
After it was cooked, Seno held the bowl and drank it down. Surprisingly, it wasn't bitter at all. After drinking it, he became lively again, hugging Tinari tightly and refusing to let go. He chattered on and on about what happened at work, how amazing he was when catching people, how he struck fear into the hearts of his enemies.
Tinari responded to him occasionally, his face full of smiles, his tail wagging happily. After chatting for a while, Tinari pulled Seno back to the room. Seno hugged Tinari tightly, his warm breath comforting both of them. This time, Tinari quickly fell asleep in Seno's arms.
On this cold, snowy night, the entire bedroom was warm.
