Chapter 35 (Knowing the Subtle) The Bird's Poem 1

Elhesen found a strange egg.

The pale pink eggshell was just the right size to fit in Elhesen's palm. Layers of bright, shimmering gold patterns adorned its surface, making it sparkle.

If it were in the wild, it would probably be collected by birds that love shiny stones, making it impossible for the little creature inside to hatch safely.

Fortunately, the poor little egg is now in Elhesen's hands. Since the egg is still warm to the touch, the kind-hearted Elhesen decides to hatch it.

As the most outstanding talent in the Order of the Church, Elhesen had read countless books. Astronomical, geographical, ancient and modern, extraterrestrial... there was nothing he hadn't read about. Yet even so, he hadn't seen anything about such an egg in any book.

His initial kindness turned into curiosity. What kind of little animals were inside? It was rare for the usually rational and clear-headed Al-Hysen to have such curiosity.

Ehrlich's observations:

On the first day after bringing the strange egg back, we prepared a large amount of equipment and instruments needed for incubating oviparous animals. After consulting a batch of information on oviparous animals, based on the weight of the egg and the thickness of the eggshell when viewed against the light, we determined that it was probably a bird.

On the first day of incubation, there were no obvious signs of death. It seems the insulation was done well, and the calculated temperature was accurate.

On the second day of incubation, the bird's egg showed no obvious signs of activity. Upon closer inspection, it was found that the egg was showing good signs of life and the embryo inside was developing steadily.

……

On the seventh day of incubation, the embryo inside the egg was developing relatively well, and signs of life were still good. However, the eggshell seemed to have thickened somewhat.

……

On the fifteenth day of incubation, the egg had grown even larger. It had grown from the size of an adult's palm to the size of a fist, and even showed signs of continuing to grow. The thickness of the eggshell hadn't increased much, but a strange force seemed to be emerging inside. This force began to obstruct observation, preventing me from examining the inside of the eggshell with instruments.

……

On the twentieth day of incubation, something strange happened. The bird egg detached itself from the incubator and began to follow me. It hopped along, and the increased thickness of the shell prevented it from breaking with each hop.

On the twenty-first day of incubation, this was probably no longer a bird egg; at least, bird eggs don't have the ability to read or eat like humans. Holding the egg in my hand, I could feel the warmth emanating from within...it was very comforting.

……

On the thirtieth day of incubation, the strange egg has been with me for almost ten days. During this time, it has been quite clingy, following me around and watching what I do. It's very gentle and won't cause any trouble. I just don't know when it will hatch.

On the thirty-first day of incubation, the eggshell broke open.

It was a beautiful afternoon, and Al-Hysen was reading in his study. To his right sat a cup of freshly brewed coffee, its delicate aroma soothing his senses. To his left was a pale pink egg, about the size of two fists, its golden markings shimmering in the sunlight.

As time passed, and Al Heysen was about to finish reading the book, he suddenly realized that the usually clingy egg hadn't rubbed against his palm for several minutes.

Al-Hysen averted his gaze from the book and turned it to the egg. His pupils contracted for a moment; cracks had appeared in the eggshell, and they were even widening.

As Elhesen watched, the eggshell gradually changed. The life inside struggled, relentlessly striking the cracks in the shell. Then the cracks widened, and continued to widen, until the entire eggshell shattered. The creature inside finally revealed its form.

...a small person with pale red wings.

The tiny baby, just hatched, had golden hair as dazzling as the patterns on its eggshell, and its slightly moist red eyes stared intently at him. Seemingly noticing that he was being observed, the little baby suddenly smiled at him—a very innocent and adorable smile.

The tiny figure sitting on the broken eggshell reached out his hands to Elhesen. He looked like a young boy, yet seemed to yearn for a hug from Elhesen. Elhesen looked at the naked little figure, picked him up with one hand, and placed him in his palm. His gaze shifted downwards; judging by human gender, he was male. Tsk, all wet.

Elhesen cradled the little figure in his palm, while his other hand gently wiped it with a soft cloth. The little figure looked somewhat dazed and didn't resist when Elhesen wiped it; it simply looked around curiously, occasionally smiling at Elhesen.

When Elhesen finished wiping her, she didn't care about her naked body and leaned softly against Elhesen's hand. Sometimes her red wings obediently attached themselves to her back, and sometimes they playfully brushed against the back of Elhesen's hand.

Alhesen didn't mind his clinginess and carefully observed his body as he leaned against him. Overall, he looked very human, except for his extremely small size and the pair of bird-like wings on his back.

Unlike most birds, its wings are fully grown without any initial growth. Perhaps because it was recently hatched, the feathers on its wings feel very soft to the touch.

After observing the little man, Elhesen prepared clothes for him. He didn't want this creature, who looked no different from a human, to appear naked in his house. Fortunately, Elhesen's hands were very skillful, and following the instructions in the book, he quickly made a small outfit. However, the little man looked disgusted, looking at Elhesen with a pitiful expression, as if he didn't want to wear such clothes.

Elhesen was somewhat speechless, but despite the little man's protests, he still dressed him. The little man, however, was angry and refused to lean on him, instead sitting on the table sulking. But his mood changed quickly, and soon he was snuggling up to him affectionately again.

After reviewing the materials, Elhesen still couldn't find anything about the little man. He was practically a figment of imagination.

With a worried expression, Elhesen rubbed his temples and looked up to see the little figure peering into a water glass. The glass tilted precariously under his touch, looking as if it were about to fall over.

"Hey……"

In a flash, Elhesen didn't know what to call him, so he quickly stepped forward to steady the wobbly water glass, then pulled the little figure out of the glass and shook off the water.

Looking at the still somewhat bewildered little figure, Elhesen murmured to himself, "I should give you a name. What should I call you?"

"Kavi."

Hearing the tiny voice, Elhesen looked at the little figure he was carrying with some surprise. The little figure was still trying to speak.

"Kavi, Kavi."

"Are you called Kavi?"

The little man nodded his head, looking completely clueless.

"Hello, my name is Elhesen."

The evening sunlight shone through the window onto Al-Hysen, making him appear exceptionally gentle.
