Chapter 2 (Sati) The Stars Are Your Gift 1

In my memory, that summer was hot, so hot it made me feel anxious.

Why didn't Tinari come to see me today? Didn't he promise to come and see the scarab I found? Seno, waiting patiently, sat somewhat dejectedly by the window, hoping to see a small, dark green fox appear before him. Unfortunately, the figure he was hoping for never appeared. However, he did see his parents hurrying home.

"What are you doing here, little Seno?" A dark-skinned, muscular man approached. He chuckled and ruffled Seno's white hair, making it a little messy. Then, as if remembering something, he said to Seno with some worry, "If you're waiting for that boy, Tinari, unfortunately, he's sick and can't come today."

The gentle woman arranging clothes nearby said, "Little Tinari has a fever. His parents told me you won't be able to play together today. I'm so sorry we're only telling you this now." She knelt down in front of Seno to express her apologies. This sudden news made Seno very anxious; he wanted to see the little fox immediately.

Seno didn't care much about that; he was just worried about Tinari. "Mom, how is he? Can I go see him later?" Her maroon eyes, like Seno's father's, always revealed a captivating beauty when she was worried.

"It should be fine, baby." He kissed Seno's cheek.

Filled with worry, Seno rushed to Tinari's house after lunch. Tinari's mother was there when she opened the door. She was surprised to see Seno and asked, "Did you come to see Tinari? Don't worry, he had a fever last night, but he's much better now."

He then led Seno into the house, saying, "Would you like to go and keep Tinari company, little Seno?" Seno nodded excitedly upon hearing this.

Sitting by Tinari's bedside, looking at Tinari's still flushed cheeks, Seno felt very sad, but he wasn't as panicked as when he first found out. Tinari had already woken up when Seno entered. Looking at Seno, the little fox weakly twitched its ears.

"Why are you here? I'm so sorry, we agreed on yesterday..."

Before Tinari could finish speaking, Seno stopped him. "It's alright, as long as you get better, we'll see many more things together in the future." Seno comforted Tinari, wanting to reach out and touch the little fox on the bed, but afraid of hurting him. He hesitated for a moment and ultimately didn't reach out. Tinari seemed to notice Seno's timidity, and he stuck out his tail, which he had hidden under the covers, and placed it in Seno's hand.

"Could you help me smooth my fur?"

Touching Tinari's big tail, Seno suddenly became happy again. He started talking about how big his scarab beetle was and how interesting the cards summoned by the Seven Saints were... Seeing Seno as usual, Tinari also became more energetic, and a smile appeared on his little face.

As they talked, Seno noticed a photograph on the bedside table; it was a picture of a beautiful starry sky. He asked Tinari, "Tinari, did you take this?" Tinari glanced at the photograph and nodded.

"That's a picture Dad took me to on the hillside last time. Isn't it beautiful? I love stars, they're so bright." Tinari laughed, his chubby cheeks puffing out, looking adorable. Seno was somewhat tempted, pinching the soft flesh on his face and grinning foolishly along with him. But in his heart, Seno remembered this and decided to give him a surprise.

After saying goodbye to the little fox, Seno didn't go home; instead, he headed into the distant forest. He remembered there was a clear stream in this forest, and he thought he might find what he was looking for nearby.

As darkness fell, Seno was somewhat disappointed when he reached his destination. What he had imagined didn't appear. However, he didn't give up; if he couldn't find it here, he'd try the next place. Fortunately, he often played in the forest with little Tinari, which taught him that many places might hold what he wanted.

After searching extensively without success, Seno, covered in dust and dirt, was quite upset. His white hair was now covered in weeds from his struggles through the jungle, and his clothes were dusty and grimy. Then, a cabbage with a small flower on its head appeared before him. Seno was initially a little flustered, but once he realized it posed no threat, he relaxed and began talking to it.

After all, he was just a child, and not very wary yet. Fortunately, this cabbage didn't have any bad intentions; after hearing Seno's request, it even took him to find what he wanted.

When he reached the lake deep in the forest, Seno was delighted; there were many fireflies he wanted. Yes, fireflies were exactly what he was looking for. He thought that Tito loved stars, and although he couldn't give Tito stars, he could give him fireflies, which shimmered just like stars.

Children's dreams are the most innocent and pure. After observing for a while, Seno found a small bottle and put the firefly inside—the brightest and most luminous one he had found after wandering around. He wanted to give it to Little Ti; if Little Ti cheered up, his illness would surely get better quickly. They would then play together in the forest all day long, just like before.

Children are energetic and hard to handle, but they also fall asleep quickly when they get tired. Lannaro quietly took the somewhat tired little Seno home, even helping him change his clothes, and then slipped away. Seno's oblivious parents didn't even notice he was late. However, the next day, his mother was very puzzled while washing the clothes—why were there so many grass leaves stuck to them?
