Chapter 12 (Xiao Kong) Xiao Bird Feeding Manual 2
04
Sora also worried about Xiao's food.
Sora tried feeding Xiao insects, but Xiao refused to eat a single bite. When Sora held an insect close to Xiao, Xiao would only shake its head and flap its wings to fly away. In the end, Sora could only chase Xiao around the room.
Then Sora did some research and found that monk parakeets can eat plant seeds, buds, and flowers, as well as fruits and berries, and occasionally catch insects. Sora gave up the idea of feeding them worms and started feeding them potatoes instead.
When Sora fed Xiao a cleaned and chopped potato to its beak, Xiao ate a few bites and then stopped eating.
So Sora began his battle of wits and courage against Xiao.
Sora kept trying different things to feed Xiao. Grapes, dates, watermelon, and even various grains. Finally, she was surprised to discover that the little bird actually liked sweet food. Especially when feeding grapes, if Xiao found the grapes sour, it would stop eating them, but if it found them sweet, it would eat several.
In addition, apes will eat some grains. When fed carrots or other vegetables, they will eat some, though reluctantly. However, they will refuse to eat insects at all.
So once Xiao was able to freely enter and leave the house, Sora stopped trying to feed him insects. He reasoned that perhaps Xiao refused to eat the insects he fed him simply because he didn't like those kinds of insects. Since Xiao could go outside, he figured he would find his own favorite insects. Sora held onto this hopeful expectation.

As autumn approaches, the temperature difference between day and night is quite large. Unfortunately, I caught a cold.
At first, she just had a stuffy nose, and then she developed a low-grade fever. So she had no choice but to stay home and rest for a few days, following the doctor's advice carefully.
Xiao was initially a little unaccustomed to seeing Sora like this, but when he felt Sora's body temperature rise slightly, he still looked at Sora in shock.
After a moment of silence, it shyly spread its wings and walked around in front of Sora. Sora was quite surprised by this, taking it as Xiao being affectionate, and was very happy.
Since then, I've noticed that Xiao has been exhibiting more strange and unusual behaviors than before.
For example, when Sora is reading, Xiao will stand on the edge of the book, and once Sora focuses more attention on the book, Xiao will do some mischievous things.
Furthermore, Sora feels that Xiao is more clingy than before. Sometimes Xiao will stretch out its wings towards him, wanting him to preen its feathers. If Sora doesn't preen its feathers, Xiao will get upset and ignore him. Xiao will also stand on his shoulder and preen his hair with its beak. It even needs a delicate little basket placed by Sora's bedside to sleep with him.
At first, Sora was quite unaccustomed to it, but gradually, she became familiar with Xiao's daily life by her side. After recovering from her illness, Sora was still a little unaccustomed to Xiao not being around her.
What struck Sora as odd was that the usually appreciative Xiao had plucked one of his feathers and given it to him. Sora was momentarily stunned upon receiving the feather, assuming it was Xiao expressing its gratitude.
It wasn't until Sora was researching how to care for monk parakeets that he realized Xiao seemed to be courting him. The moment he realized this, Sora felt like he was walking on cotton. It was a mix of reality and illusion, yet he was incredibly happy. He thought his little bird was just too adorable, and he wanted to kiss and hug it.
Later, when she saw Xiao getting close to her again, Sora reluctantly accepted Xiao's feathers and let Xiao nuzzle her. She felt as if her heart had melted, filled with joy and happiness.

In any case, Sora never expected that Xiao could actually become a real person.
It was a morning like any other, the warm light of the morning sun filtering through the gaps in the curtains and casting a hazy glow on the floor. Still half-asleep, Kong turned off the alarm clock and prepared to get out of bed to wash up.
As usual, I glanced at the small basket beside the bed, but this time I only saw an empty basket. The little green bird that should have been inside was nowhere to be seen!
Having just woken up, Sora was still a little groggy. Seeing this was like being doused with a bucket of cold water. His consciousness instantly cleared. Sora then discovered the boy lying beside him, looking at him with golden eyes as if he had just woken up.
The boy who appeared on the empty bed had a very delicate face, with an indescribable charm between his brows, a faint red mark at the corner of his eye, and a golden diamond-shaped mark on his forehead. This mark made the boy appear exceptionally handsome.
Seemingly realizing that Sora had finally noticed him, the boy smiled at Sora and said, "Don't be afraid, I am Xiao."
Upon hearing this, Kong was immediately shocked. His mind went through a mental frenzy, and it took him a while to understand what he was talking about.
What happened to the rule that no sentient beings were allowed after the founding of the People's Republic of China?
After the two of them had tidied themselves up and sat down at the dining table, Xiao told Sora everything that had happened.
With the development of modern society, many ancient mountain spirits and deities have disappeared. However, some wondrous beings remain, such as Xiao, and Xiao's teacher, Zhongli. Strictly speaking, Xiao isn't a complete demon. It only transforms into a small bird every few years. Generally speaking, Xiao is quite similar to a human.
“On the day we met, Mr. Zhongli would have found me a little later.” Xiao tilted his head, his face slightly flushed as if he were drunk. “But I’m so glad I met you.”
"Mr. Zhongli later found me and asked if I wanted to go back with him." As he said this, Xiao turned his head and stared intently at Kong, his dazzling golden pupils carrying an emotion that Kong couldn't quite understand.
"I rejected Mr. Zhongli. I want to stay by your side. I want to hug you, I want to kiss you. Do you understand, Kong?"
Listening to Xiao's words and seeing his somewhat shy expression, Kong felt as if a flame was burning in his chest; Xiao's intense emotions were like a fire that would consume him completely.
Looking at Xiao's perfect face, Sora realized she had been captivated by him the first time she saw him that morning, and felt her heart pounding. "I want you to stay by my side too. I think I like you too."
After finally saying those words, Sora seemed to relax and hugged Xiao in the end, thinking to himself, "Beauty is truly alluring."
