HP: The Root of Everything - The Magician
Chapter 24 Harry Potter's Divination Circle
After Snape's Potions class ended, Teach spent the afternoon listening to lectures in several other classrooms where classes were in session.
These are spell classes and mystical divination classes.
Teach had already learned about the curse in detail from Os, and now he was only listening to reinforce his knowledge of how to prevent the curse.
As for the divination class, Teach was completely baffled.
Sybil Trelawney gave Teach Carl the impression of a mentally unstable wizard, perhaps driven insane by some prophetic divination, Teach thought.
After listening to the lecture for a while, Teach gave up on trying to understand this elusive form of divination and prophecy.
Regarding divination, there is knowledge about it in magic books, but it is not used for prophecy. It is magic that uses celestial phenomena and stars in the universe to perform magic – 'celestial magic'.
Teach Karl is not yet capable of mastering celestial magic, but since he has come to Hogwarts, it is necessary to attend the astronomy classes that are held in the evening.
Teach wanted to see what the wizards understood about the universe and the sky.
And so, after listening to three lessons, it was already evening for Teach Carr.
The dining area remains the main hall.
At mealtimes, the house-elves at Hogwarts, who are kept out of sight of young wizards, will prepare the food in the kitchen on time and then use their innate magical powers to teleport the food to the dining table in the Great Hall.
Few of the young wizards knew about the existence of house-elves at Hogwarts. They all believed that the food that appeared out of thin air on the table was due to some kind of magic that Headmaster Dumbledore had cast on the table, allowing food to grow out of thin air.
As for how it happened out of thin air, they had no interest in finding out.
This made Teach sigh: "These little wizards who live in seclusion really live a leisurely life. If Voldemort were to suddenly attack now, they probably wouldn't even have the courage to pick up their wands... no, they wouldn't even have the thought of taking out their wands to fight back."
In his previous life, Teach found it very unreasonable that Hogwarts did not teach dueling to young wizards.
This completely fails to teach them the ability to protect themselves, and doesn't consider how these young wizards should face and deal with danger when it comes.
But Teach Carr was just venting his frustrations; he wouldn't actually share his thoughts with Dumbledore and thus change the school's curriculum.
The path of magic is bound to clash with magic itself.
In other words, when the time comes, Teach Carr will be hostile to the entire wizarding world. Wouldn't a wizard who doesn't face danger be exactly what Teach wants to see?
Teach picked up a chicken leg, and just as he was about to take a bite, Hermione Granger rushed over.
Then he took out the laptop and placed it on the dining table, under Teach's gaze.
This left Teach Carr speechless: "Miss Granger, could you please stop asking me about magic while I'm eating? You know, not concentrating on your meal isn't good for your stomach."
Hermione was so excited that she didn't listen to Teach at all. Instead, she urged him with pride, "Professor Teach, take a look at my notes. I've done what you asked."
Faced with Hermione's persistent demands, Teach had no choice but to put down his chicken leg and pick up the handwriting on the table to examine it. Upon inspection, he discovered that some of the patterns in the alchemy circle he had requested had indeed been altered, and that the alteration had been successful.
After reading it, Teach put down the notebook and pointed to the dining table, saying to Hermione, "Show me your work, my incredibly clever Miss Granger."
Without saying a word, Hermione took out her wand and used magic to draw a magic circle. Then she placed the chicken leg that Teach had left uneaten on the circle and began to show off her results.
The chicken leg was melted, decomposed, and reassembled, and then a large cabbage appeared.
Teach picked up the cabbage, tore off a leaf, and tasted it: [It really tastes like cabbage, not some kind of magical transformation spell.]
[Moreover, the fact that they were able to turn meat into a completely different vegetarian diet means they exceeded my expectations.]
Setting the cabbage down, Teach nodded approvingly to Hermione and said, "Miss Granger, I am very satisfied with your material transformation. If I had the authority to award points to the House, I would certainly give you... 10 points."
"Then, according to our agreement of equivalent exchange, I will give you a new training formation."
After saying that, Teach immediately drew a brand new transmutation circle in Hermione Granger's notebook and explained, "This transmutation circle is also a matter conversion circle, but it can convert hard matter, such as stone..."
"Transforming ordinary stones into iron, steel, silver, or gold, and even mithril and mythical orientalite."
"Now that you've mastered a transmutation circle, you should also understand that magic isn't a technique that creates something from nothing; it must follow the basic principle of level exchange."
"So, how to turn stone into expensive metal is the test I'm giving you this time. This test is difficult in some ways, and easy in others."
"But you must remember one thing: open your mind and don't be imprisoned by fixed ideas."
Teach Carr's last words opened a door that Hermione had never seen before.
Hermione remained absorbed in that sentence, and swayed away with her notebook in her arms.
After Hermione left, Teach picked up another chicken leg to eat when another young wizard came and disturbed his dinner.
Teach suppressed his impatience, turned his head and saw that it was Harry Potter wearing glasses, who was also holding a notebook and came to ask for advice.
In Harry's notebook, Teach saw a modified transmutation circle that differed from Hermione's, but this immediately made him frown.
Because in the alchemy circle pattern on Harry's notebook, Teach's keen eye could vaguely discern a snake pattern.
[A snake? Voldemort? Am I overthinking it?]
[It's the second year of school now. Voldemort's plan to be resurrected using the Philosopher's Stone has been thwarted by Harry Potter himself, thanks to Dumbledore's plan. He can't possibly still be at Hogwarts.]
After thinking it over, Teach Carr relaxed his brow and smiled kindly at Harry Potter, asking, "Mr. Potter, your modification to the transmutation circle is somewhat unexpected."
"So, have you ever experimented with your modified training array?"
When questioned, Harry Potter replied somewhat flusteredly, "Yes."
"I got the original diagram for this Transformation Formation Array from Hermione."
"But the alteration of this training array was done in my dream while I was sleeping. I thought it was just a dream, but when I woke up, the training array in my notebook had been changed according to the scene in my dream."
"I asked Ron, and he said he saw me get up in the middle of the night to draw it. I think I might have been sleepwalking."
"As for the experiment... I... I used the feathers of my pet owl, Hedwig, to train a snake, a live snake..."
"This snake almost bit me. If Hyde hadn't caught it while I was nearby, I probably would have ended up in the hospital."
After listening to Harry Potter's words, Teach couldn't help but come up with some guesses.
First of all, Harry getting up in the middle of the night to modify the training array couldn't have been a simple case of sleepwalking; it was more like he was being controlled by some kind of force.
Then, Harry Potter's second year of school revolved around the Chamber of Secrets.
The prerequisite for opening the secret room is a Horcrux notebook belonging to Voldemort.
In other words, the notebook somehow briefly manipulated Harry to redraw the transmutation circle. And was the transmuted snake meant to bite Harry, injecting its fangs with a spell to completely control Harry Potter?
【No, no, no…】Thinking this through his mind, Teach shook his head: 【There's also the possibility that Tom Riddle in the notebook is actually targeting me?】
After all, the transmutation array I teach the young wizards in my open classes is a basic matter conversion transmutation array, and matter conversion, if studied in depth, can be applied to the human body.
That is... human transmutation.
