HP: The Root of Everything - The Magician

Chapter 126 Dumbledore's Purpose

At the top of the highest tower of Hogwarts, Griffin Hufflepuff was busy with his own tasks under the curious gaze of Fawkes the Phoenix.

When Teach and Hermione used their flying magic to reach the rooftop, they saw Griffin carrying hay and branches from the Forbidden Forest with his lion-like claws and limbs.

Judging from the situation, they are clearly building a nest.

Teach had to admit that Griffin had chosen a very good nesting location.

Because there are no stairs at the top of this tower, there is no way to get to the rooftop except by flying up, which avoids disturbing the curious young wizards who come to watch.

When Griffin saw Hermione arrive, he immediately stopped building his nest and gently picked up Hermione's little hand with his beak, pulling her towards the incomplete nest.

After Hermione automatically understood what Griffin meant, she said apologetically to her teacher, Teach, "Teacher, you go ahead with your work. I'll go help Griffin build his nest. His limbs aren't as good as our human hands."

After listening, Teach nodded indulgently.

After glancing at Hermione and Griffin's nesting activities and Fox watching from the sidelines, Teach began to pursue his real purpose in coming to the rooftop of the tower.

Dumbledore said that he would use the mythical magic that naturally flowed from Griffin's body to enhance the castle magic of Hogwarts.

So, guided by Dumbledore, Teach brought Hermione to this rooftop.

Using the petrifying magic eye, one could see a vast amount of natural magic power gathering in the sky and flowing into the rooftop through the magic eye's ability to perceive energy.

After this immense magical power surged into the rooftop, it was filtered and then dispersed by an unknown magic.

Finally, this magic, which split into countless streams, flowed into every corner and every stone brick of the castle.

Upon seeing this, Teach took to the air and took in the entire Hogwarts Castle.

Suddenly, the scene seen by the petrifying magic eye made Teach exclaim in amazement. The natural magic flowing into every part of the castle reinforced the castle and then seeped into the ground.

Then, the magic that had seeped into the ground rose into the sky, where it was gathered, absorbed, and channeled by the unknown magical device on the rooftop.

Seeing this, Teach couldn't help but nod in approval, thinking to himself, "What a brilliant move..."

[Use Hogwarts Castle as a central point, absorb the natural magic contained in the surrounding sky and mountains, and then discharge the used waste magic into the ground.]

The earth purified this waste magic, and the purified natural magic evaporated like water vapor, then dissipated into the sky and the surrounding air.

Finally, the unidentified magical device on the rooftop absorbed and utilized the magic power purified by the earth multiple times.

The magic of nature is cleverly circulated and reused, thus repeatedly reinforcing the castle time and again.

But as Teach looked at it more closely, he discovered the problem.

The unknown magic set up on the rooftop of Hogwarts only absorbs natural magic within a radius of a dozen kilometers. Over the years, with the continuous use and consumption of energy, the surrounding natural magic is becoming insufficient and is showing signs of depletion.

Although the magic of nature is inexhaustible, like the seawater on Earth, this seawater is not all in one large ocean.

The volume of magic in these three containers—lakeside, river, and sea—is different.

Hogwarts is situated on a lakeside.

The natural magic of this lake is being consumed day and night, and it will inevitably dry up completely one day.

In the gentle breeze of dusk, Dumbledore rode his flying broomstick into the air.

After standing next to Teach Carr, he spoke, "Professor Carr, it seems you've used your golden eye to discover the problems facing Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

"That's right. In about six hundred years, Hogwarts will have exhausted all the natural magic it can draw from the surrounding area. At that time, without magic to maintain the stability of the castle, it will collapse."

In other words, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry will gradually decline until it closes down.

"Six hundred years! In the Muggle's concept of time, it may be a very long time, but in the wizard's lifespan, it is only the replacement of three generations."

After deactivating his Petrifying Eyes, Teach looked down at Hermione and Griffin laughing and joking on the rooftop below, and then bluntly stated, "So... in order for Hogwarts to stand the test of time, you have ulterior motives toward the Griffin?"

"When you said to Hermione that you wouldn't force Griffin to stay or leave, I'm afraid that was just an excuse in front of outsiders!"

"Hermione is only in her third year, and she has four years left before graduation. In those four years, you will have plenty of time to win her heart and make the mythical creature Griffin feel a sense of belonging to the comfortable home of Hogwarts."

At this point, Teach Carr turned around in mid-air, his one gold and one black eye looking at the white-bearded old man.

"Is that how I described it, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore?"

Dumbledore fell silent for a moment under Teach's gaze, but this silence lasted only a short while.

“Yes, Professor Carl…” Dumbledore readily and frankly admitted.

"Hogwarts needs Griffin"

"The existence of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry makes Griffin even more necessary."

"When the castle has exhausted the natural magic around it, Hogwarts needs the mythical magic in Griffin's body to absorb natural magic from hundreds of kilometers away and pour it into the magic circle on the roof of the tower to maintain the castle's existence."

After speaking, Dumbledore paused for a moment before asking, "Professor Carr, will you tell Griffin and his mistress, Miss Granger, about my impure motives?"

This question momentarily stunned Teach, who then burst into uncontrollable laughter: "Hahaha~ Hahahahaha~"

"Old Deng, when you asked me this question, didn't you even ask yourself the same question?"

“You understand, you understand better than anyone else, you understand that I, with my ‘materialistic view of magic,’ would not expose you under the wisest judgment.”

"Because Griffin is only safe at Hogwarts, or rather, under the protection of you, the most powerful white wizard of our time."

"Then let me ask you, did you, as the headmaster, order the professors to use the Oblivion Charm to erase the memories of the young wizards in Hagrid's classes?"

Before Dumbledore could answer, Teach waved his hand to interrupt, saying, "Let me guess... you probably don't, right?"

"You want to spread the word about the existence of the mythical creature Griffin through those young wizard students?"

"At that time, those greedy wizards will come to Hogwarts and use dangerous and illegal means to seize Griffin, trying every means to snatch him from Hermione's arms."

"You want to let things escalate, so Hermione realizes that it's dangerous for Griffin to go outside."

"I want Griffin to realize that only Hogwarts is a safe place, a secure home for him."
